Staking their claim Vampires' mass-market appeal driving monster sales of movies, music, fashion and even food

Vampires are known for taking your innocence, your blood and your life. But they're also good at draining something else: your bank account.

As excitement builds around Halloween and “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” film release Nov. 20, it seems there's no escaping these creatures of the night.

“It is definitely the year of the vampire,” said Kathy Grannis, spokeswoman for the National Retail Federation. “The impression that vampires have made on the consumer is not leaving anytime soon.”

As vampires have gone from underground cult figures to mainstream heroes, their mysterious appeal has boosted sales of movies, music, fashion and even food.
