Things I've learned from True Blood (11)

Life and death are unfair.

I learned that while one bucket of crawdads will suit you just fine...two buckets will make you feel sick and need Pepto.

I learned that demon exorcisms are a great reason to go out and celebrate in Bon Temps.

I learned that it is like pulling teeth to get Eric to back up Bill's version of events.

I learned that Sam would make a good husband - a 50 pound bag of "Husband Chow" and a bowl of fresh water and dinner is done!

This is to benefit a fellow author's fight against cancer, and you get to bid on all my brownie-induced, totally warped madness. You read correctly - you bid, you win, I write the fic YOU want - even if it's 'The Talk'. You decide the pairings, the genre, plot outline - as detailed or as loose as you want. Please help support this worthy cause, and get some personally tailored brownie mania in the process!"

'Burning House of Love ' the title song for True Blood Season One Episode Seven

I recently did a Season 2 Spoiler show for my Blogtalk radio show, where we looked at what we might know about the upcoming episode by knowing examining the title song for that episode.

I can't tell you how many emails I received from folks saying they felt so stupid for not realizing that the True Blood episodes were named for songs. It's OK but I thought it might be a good idea to look back at the song, the artist and the lyrics for each of last season's episode title songs.

So let's look back to Season 1, Ep 7: Burning House of Love which originally aired : 10/19/2008

Burning House of Love by The Knitters from the album, The Modern Sounds of the Knitters

The Knitters formed in 1982 as a side project to the band members' primary commitments. Vocalist Exene Cervenka, singer/bassist John Doe and drummer DJ Bonebrake were three of the four members of the punk band X; guitarist Dave Alvin was a member of roots rock band The Blasters; and stand-up bassist Jonny Ray Bartel was a member of blues-rock band The Red Devils.
The Knitters' debut album Poor Little Critter on the Road was released in 1985. It included mainly traditional and cover songs, together with some X songs performed in an acoustic style. The album drew on blues, folk, country and rockabilly influences. In 1999, the label Bloodshot Records released a track-by-track tribute to the album entitled Poor Little Knitter on the Road.
After the debut album's release, all the group members continued to work with their primary bands. Dave Alvin also later pursued a solo career.

Twenty years later, in 2005, the group released their second and ironically-titled album, The Modern Sounds of the Knitters. John Doe has been quoted [1] as saying "The Knitters, like their music, don't do anything hasty. Since our last record's been out for a while and it did pretty good, we figured it was just about time to put out another." The Modern Sounds of the Knitters has been well-received by critics

Lyrics:

drive by my house late at night
you can see from the freeway above
no silhouette, but a light left on
burning there for love

smoke is rising from the fire
coming out my back door
i'm inside, sound asleep
cigarette on the floor
burning there for love

well i can still remember
a couple of years ago
when the smoke and flame called my name
it was a burning house of love

that rusty nail over our front door
is where i hung our tears in the rain
i threw that horseshoe into the weeds
to see what luck can bring

cause you're in your bed, i'm in mine
on either side of town
i think i might take a ride
and burn your love house down
like a burning house of love

Missing True Blood: Top 10 Juicy Moments

From SideReel

Though this on-hiatus fav has only had one season so far, True Blood has already been packed with so many juicy moments from literally juicy and bloody vampire moments to juicy romantic and otherwise dramatic moments that we can already analyze our top favorite juicy True Blood moments!

1. Sookie uses a chain to attack Mack's vampire-blood-stealing butt! Even though Sookie just met Bill at this point, she didn't hesitate to fight to save him when Mack and nasty girlfriend Denise were starting to drain Vampire Bill of his blood. - 1.1, Strange Love

2. Sookie gets beaten by the V thieves and sucks Bill's blood. We learn True Blood isn't afraid to get bloody when Mack and Denise came back to beat up Sookie for taking Bill - and this is not a sexy catfight to say the least! Bloody Sookie is saved by Bill who bit his own wrist, then had Sookie suck it to save her life. - 1.2, The First Taste

3. Sookie slips on blood, discovering Gran's murder. After Jason was arrested then let go for Dawn's murder, Sookie walked into her kitchen to slip on blood! She discovered the next in the mysterious murders as poor, sweet Gran. The clots may not thicken here, but the plot sure did! - 1.5, Sparks Fly

4. Sookie and Bill have sex for the first time. This is no teenager's awkward first. After Gran's funeral, Sookie went to Bill, leading to some seriously hot and juicy sex as she not only wanted sex, but when Bill's fangs came out, she not only agreed to him biting her, but begged him to! - 1.7, Cold Ground

5. Sookie-Bill graveyard sex! Some vampire-haters set a house on fire, leaving four coffins burned with Sookie thinking Bill was in one of them. As Sookie left the graveyard at night from visiting family graves, bam! An arm shot out of the ground and grabbed her! It turned out to be a naked Bill in hiding who Sookie then had hot and dirty graveyard sex with. - 1.8, The Fourth Man in the Fire

6. Bill kills a fellow vampire! While Sookie was visiting Fangtasia to help find a thief, the bartender/thief lunged over the bar at Sookie when she was about to discover that he was the thief. Bill stabbed the bartender in the back - a super juicy moment as the bartender turned into a gross mess of spewing blood and parts - all over Sookie's little white dress. - 1.9, Plaisir D'Amour

7. Amy kills Eddie the vampire! While Amy and Jason fought about Jason helping Eddie, Amy killed Eddie, leaving him in the usual disgusting dead vampire state all over the floor. - 1.10, I Don't Wanna Know

8. Tara spirals out of control. After her mother's exorcism, Tara became convinced she needed her own, leading to a creepy woods experience hallucinating with the witch doctor, all leading to Tara drinking and getting arrested for swerving when she saw a woman with a pig in the road. That woman turned up in jail to help her get back on her feet. - 1.11, To Love is to Bury

9. Amy is killed while she and Jason are high on V. Amy was fascinating, but it surely was an awesome moment to see the killer sneak into the house and strangle Amy on the bed right next to the passed out Jason. This led to another great/awful moment of Jason discovering her and turning himself in, heartbroken, assuming he had to be the murderer. - 1.11, To Love is to Bury

10. Sookie kills the murderer! Sookie discovered Rene/Drew Marshall was the killer as she read his thoughts, leading to yet another non-delicate battle for our leading lady. This included a grossly melting Bill in the sun trying to save her, Rene catching Sookie to beat her badly, Sam showing up as a dog attacking as best he could then turning into his naked human self, and Sookie stabbing Rene in the neck with a shovel. Hot. Gross. Juiciest season finale ever! - 1.12, You'll Be the Death of Me

True Blood star, Anna Paquin to attend 'Sendler' premiere

Special guests to attend 'Sendler' premiere Friday, April 3, 2009

A few special guests will be part of a world television movie premiere next month in downtown Fort Scott.

Renata Zajdman, who as a young child was one of more than 2,500 Jewish children rescued from the Warsaw Ghetto by Polish heroine Irena Sendler during World War II, will be in Fort Scott next month for the world premiere of the Hallmark Hall of Fame film, "The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler." The premiere event is set to take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, at the Liberty Theatre, 113 S. Main St.

Other guests who have confirmed their attendance at the event include Jeff Most, the producer of the film, and Charles Lawson, a former American Ambassador to Latvia, a country in northern Europe where the movie was filmed. Other visitors from seven states, including New York, Pennsylvania, Florida and California, also plan to attend the premiere, Lowell Milken Center Director and "Life in a Jar" co-founder Norm Conard said.

"It's very exciting all that's developing with this," Conard said Thursday.

At the age of 14, Zajdman survived in the streets of Warsaw, Poland, until she was rescued by Sendler. She currently lives in Montreal, Canada, and has previously visited Kansas and participated in presentations of the student-driven "Life in a Jar" project that focuses on Sendler's life and heroic efforts.

According to the project's Web site, www.irenasendler.org, Zajdman has worked with students on the project and has provided a powerful voice for "repairing the world," which is the meaning of the Jewish phrase Tikkun Olam and is the project's motto.

"Hers (Zajdman) is quite a fascinating story," Conard said.

The Hallmark-produced film marks the first time that Sendler's story has been used as the basis for a feature film. The network television premiere of the movie is scheduled for 8 p.m. Sunday, April 19, on CBS ( KOAM-TV, Ch. 7, locally). The film stars Anna Paquin as Sendler and Marcia Gay Harden as Sendler's mother, Janina. The film's cast also includes Nathaniel Parker and Goran Visnijic.

The "Life in a Jar" project tells Sendler's story, which was discovered in 1999 by a group of Uniontown High School students and has since become globally known. The basis for the project is a dramatic stage play designed by those students that has been performed hundreds of times in the United States and around the world since that time. Students from rural high schools across the country, as well as students in Poland, have performed the play several times over the years.

Working as a social worker in the 1940s, Sendler led an effort to smuggle thousands of Jewish children out of the Warsaw Ghetto after getting the consent of the children's parents. The children were given new identities and placed with Polish families and in convents. Sendler kept a hidden record of their birth names and where they were placed buried in jars with the hope that they would someday be reunited with their own families.

Sendler was nominated in 2007 for a Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts. She died in May 2008 at the age of 98.

Zajdman is expected to be present at the film premiere next month, along with Hallmark representatives and several original and current "Life in a Jar" cast members. Guests are expected to arrive in limousines and make red carpet entrances starting at 6:30 p.m. the evening of the premiere, Conard said.

More than 400 people have already made reservations for the event, a Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce statement said.

For more information on Sendler, visit www.irenasendler.org. For more information on the film premiere, contact the Lowell Milken Center at (620) 223-9991.
