Tru: Blood Mixology and cocktail recipes

Everyone loves the vampire series, True Blood, on HBO. It is based on the “Sookie Stackhouse Chronicles” by Charlaine Harris and created for television by Alan Ball. If you haven’t heard, Ball announced at the San Diego Comic Con that HBO will be releasing Tru Blood Beverage, on September 10th – just in time for the final episode of this season. Tru Blood is a blood orange carbonated drink designed to be bottled like the fictional bloody beverage. According to HBO’s web site, “This blood orange flavored soda is slightly tart, lightly sweet and subtly carbonated. Designed to taste great while matching the appearance of Bill’s favorite drink, the drink pours like a regular soda, but with the standing appearance in a glass is stormy and mysterious.”

The beverage sells for $4/bottle and comes in a 4 pack. Cases may also be purchased from the web site. Already, people are coming up with drink mixes to combine with Tru Blood. Below are five examples of these “special” drinks.

number1The Fangbanger: ½ ounce of Galliano, 1 ½ ounces of Vodka, 2 ounces of Tru Blood.
Mix vodka and orange juice in a collins glass with ice cubes. Stir well, and float the Galliano on top. Garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry.

number2Death On The Beach: 1 ½ ounces of Peach Schnapps, 1 ½ ounces of Vodka, 2 ounces of orange juice, 2 ounces of pineapple juice, 2 ounces of Tru Blood.
Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a highball glass filled with ice.

number3Plasmapolitan: 1 ounce Cointreau, 1 ounce Vodka, 1 dash of fresh lime juice, fill with Tru Blood.
Shake ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with an orange twist.

number4Dutch Blood: 1 ¼ of Absinthe, fill with Tru Blood. (care of www.slashfood.com)
Just add absinthe to an absinthe cup and top with Tru Blood. Just the right bite to mask the caffeine that powers you through until the first light of dawn.

number5Undead Experience: 1 part Jagermeister, 1 part Triple Sec, 2 parts Vodka, 1 dash Bitters (Angostura), and fill with Tru Blood.
Shake ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into glass. Very potent.

These are the recipes from the HBO web page :

Meticulously crafted, the Tru Blood Drink is an exact replica of the bottle design as seen on True Blood. The 14oz glass Tru Blood bottle is stained in a rich red, with raised Tru Blood English lettering and matching Japanese Kanji.

Book Series with Continuing Protagonists

Fromt he blog 'On Writing and Publishing' The author talks about the the Sookie Stackhouse and 'In death " series

These are hard to do. Mostly because the author gets tired of them or the reader does, and they are hard to keep fresh.

1) Sympathetic characters with enough depth in their pasts and personal problems in the present.

2) The characters clashes with each other, what underlying opposite philosophies will continue to clash and be explored.

3) A continuing arc (either personal in the Robb books or personal/plot in the Harris books).

4) Keeping the time period short.

5) Excellent secondary characters (though that might fall under number 1).

6) Heroes (male) that women want in their own lives.

7) The author still likes her characters and world.

Five reasons why I can't get enough True Blood

From the Guardian UK- post your own 5 reasons ! ( remember the UK is not just seeing Season 1)

I thought I didn't like vampire shows – but one bite of True Blood and I was hooked …

Just another pleasant evening in Bon Temps, Louisiana … True Blood

1 I love it because I'm not supposed to

I'm not a vampire person. Lord, no. Vampires are the hobby thing of a specific type of odd-bod. Emo sorts into Buffy box-sets, body-art, Anne Rice conventions and striding about Whitby in flappy coats hoping to see the shipwreck of the Demeter. THESE are Vampire people. People who carve stuff on their person then put pics of it on Bebo – THESE are vampire people. Not me. I tried True Blood because it was created by Alan Ball (Six Feet Under, American Beauty). And by the close of episode one, I was haranguing everyone I could find to watch it, particularly the scene where Sookie Stackhouse and Bill Compton's eyes first meet (lights dim, earth spins on axis, mournful cello score accompaniment, etc.)

By episode four, I was so preoccupied by the idea of vampires "mainstreaming" in the modern world that, when I spotted an insect bite bleeding on my leg one afternoon, my gut reaction was: "Ooh, has someone bled me? … oh, hang on, that's telly." Vampire fans, like the ones I've mocked cruelly above, are welcome to take my churlish words and shove them sideways down my trap.

True Blood Hunk Alexander Skarsgard in day light

Tons of Alex Skarsgard stuff from Ohlalamag

It does give me a chance to run the 'Gratuitous Alex in shower scene animated gif' again

Alexander Skarsgård is one of my favorite vampires in True Blood. This show is so good that you almost forget that Alexander is an actor and not only he can actually walk in the day light but he also has done several movies and series before True Blood.

First even if I saw the mini series Generation Kill, I did not remember him playing one of the soldiers [source] In fact we even made a post about the show but mostly focusing on real life retired Marine Sergeant Rudy Reyes naked [OhLaLa Rudy Reyes Naked in Generation Kill] Kellan Lutz was also in this series ...

‘Being Human,’ Where Fashion is Undead

The Moment - NY Times Blog

Much has been made lately of the bloodless rise of vampire chic. “Rarely have monsters looked so sultry — or so camera-ready,” writes Ruth La Ferla, picking up on the generally attractive and well-clad undead of “Twilight,” “True Blood” and “Vampire Diaries.” To wit, a fair number of male models seen in Paris and Milan this season mimicked a pale epicene vampire. But vampires aren’t the only supernatural beings who contend with an eternity of sartorial choices. Witness “Being Human,” a new BBC America series about a vampire, a ghost and a werewolf sharing a flat in Bristol, England. What of the other creatures in this monster mash — what do ghosts and werewolves choose to wear forever? The style conundrums of the undead may be a new field of study, but let’s sinks our teeth into it, shall we?

Touchpaper TV and BBC Mitchell, the vampire, is the hot one. Of course.

In the series, which premiered on July 25, the vampire Mitchell, played by Aidan Turner, is predictably the most handsome of the trio. He favors leather overcoats and fingerless gloves when he’s not wearing the baby-blue scrubs of the hospital where he works. His long thick hair — luscious even — is perpetually slicked back with some sort of gel or perhaps pomade. Happily, undercutting this strangely “Blade”-inspired ensemble is Mitchell’s comforting proclivity for T-shirts over long-sleeved shirts, à la University of Michigan 1999. It’s really George, his werewolf friend, and Annie, his ghostly roomie, who offer a glimpse into the eternal closets of the undead.

Barbie Goes Vampire

So if we can have Twilight Barbies why not a Eric/Ken Doll ? Someone call Mattel !

Barbie has reached a new level. It was considered a milestone to develop an African-American Barbie doll...well, now they've gone inter-species on us by developing a vampire Barbie! Mattel announced they're coming out with Twilight Barbie dolls. Joy. They've got "Barbie" Bella and "Ken" Edward. Photos of the dolls have been revealed already, and I'm disappointed to not see any pics of them in ski wear. I specifically asked Stephanie Meyer

(Twilight author and doll designer) to dress them in some of those new hemp ski jackets I'm excited about. She sounded super stoked on the idea, but I guess she was just jerkin my chain. So what does a vampire Barbie doll offer? I don't really see how these dolls will be any different from other Barbies, except for the fact that when you rip off the vampire Barbie's head, it grows back. And then it eats you. Have fun kids!

True Blood breaking it's own record with 4.43 million viewers

From TV by the Numbers

Sunday’s episode of True Blood notched 4.43 million viewers, up versus the previous week (and previous series high) when it had 4.27 million. It also had a 2.3/6 (rating/share) with adults 18-49, up a tenth from last week’s 2.2 rating. Note: these numbers are only for the initial airing and don’t include the encore airing.

Will it hit 5 million by the season finale? The show keeps growing, and even its DVD sales are going strong after 11 weeks, and has pushed past 1.2 million units and $42 million in DVD sales in the USA. It’s a pretty phenomenal story for HBO, and the show just keeps getting better. The last couple of weeks were great.
