Vamping up vampires in Malaysia

From New Straits Times in Malaysia- did you know vampires are very different around the world ?

LET's take a breather from politics, the economy, nuclear technology and war for a while.

Let's talk about vampires. Yes, those blood-sucking, amorous, fanged creatures who hang out in dilapidated mansions.

Why? Well, for starters, they are famous, particularly among the Americans and British. They are well-known for their ability to scare the living daylights out of us.
What about our local version of a vampire, or pontianak? Definitely not as glamorous as their Western cousins.

Nowadays, the only kinds of vampire known to the younger generation are those from the Twilight movies. Yes, the annoying ones. Not many can understand why teenage girls shriek in ecstasy the minute they catch a glimpse of Robert Pattinson's pasty mug.

It is sad that our own pontianak have no place in the hearts and minds of youths, or in pop culture.

I think Pontianak or Kuntilanak is much more a Banshee rather than a Vampire :)

Kuntilanak screams for babies like a banshee does.

Do Vampires do that?
