It's probably the cleaning station of a science lab, as evidenced by the test tubes, carboy stoppers and test tube cleaners.

VAMPS is probably shorthand for either whatever is supposed to go in that bucket or the lab name, so no one steals the bucket.

Or is it from drainers? That bucket could be to catch a vampire's blood and then they take the blood from the bucket and bottle it up in those vials? Hmmmm...

I have to go with Andy on this one.

My mom was a phlebotomist for a number of years (the people who draw blood in hospitals and medical centers), and since their main gig is draining blood, they'd often be referred to as vampires. Maybe this is a way of not having to write "phlebotomists" on the bucket?!

I wrote to my mother, a cytopathologist. I remember this term from hanging around her lab in my youth. I think it has someting to do with small glass tubes that when used with a rubber bulb, create a vacuum used to draw up blood from blood collections. These tubes were called "Vamps". After use, these were cleaned and sterilized. Since they were in direct contact with bodily fluids, they were required to be labeled so as to not contaminate regular equipment.
