True Blood Becoming A Movie?

WHAT!!!??

With another season of frequently naked vampire lust finished, True Blood is more popular than ever. It’s the most successful show in the history of HBO, so of course they want to find ways to make even more money off it. One of HBO’s top priorities may be turning True Blood into a movie.

Whats Playing says there’s talk around the network of transitioning the series into the world of feature films, maybe after another season or two of television

. Details are sparse but their sources say they hope to get True Blood: The movieup and running “sooner rather than later” and that series creator Alan Ball may be determined to direct it himself.

Ball’s feature film directing experience is limited, but he’s had plenty of practice at making television look cinematic. The show, visually at least, flat out looks like something that’s meant to be up on the big screen. It’ll work as long as HBO’s willing to let fly with a hard-R rating. True Blood trades in the ridiculous, whether it’s over the top violence or out of control freaky sex, and if they’re taking the show to theaters the MPAA’s probably not going to be their friend.

Coming up with a properly cinematic story should be no problem and True Blood doesn’t shy away from action and wild special effects, just imagine what they could do with a movie-sized budget. The story of Sookie Stackhouse and vampire Bill could work on the big screen at least as well as it works on television, assuming you think it works at all.

'True Blood' weekends: That's all, folks! LA Times

Honestly, I expected the "True Blood" finale to be a lot more controversial around these parts. Usually when I dislike (or even like) an episode, a healthy number of you disagree. But outside of a few people who thought the finale was good fun, it sure seemed like everybody who commented or got in touch with me could agree on one broad point about the finale: It was pretty bad. If it wasn't pulling lots of lame cliffhangers on us and muddying up the storyline, it was just plain boring. For once, we're all (mostly) on the same page, and that just makes me feel great about humanity.
Unfortunately, since we were all on the same page, there's less to write about this week. (Which gives me more time to finish up this piece on the awesome "Boardwalk Empire" pilot.) But let's see some of your comments anyway.
Tess liked this season. She's still looking forward to next season. But the finale? That disappointed her:

"This whole season I thought was fabulous, and it did feel like it was building towards something, but then we got here and nothing happened. I did feel like I was enjoying it while I was watching it, but once I got to the end it was like, I have no idea what just filled those 55 minutes. Every time something built up -- Eric in the ground with an assassin sent for Pam, for instance, or Alcide showing up -- it was over 5 minutes later (not that I wasn't glad to see Eric alive. Or Alcide still looking good. Or Godric, for that matter)."

Two new Cop/Vampire TV shows in the works from MTV and NBC

First up is MTV, they just gave the greenlight to Death Valley, a horror comedy about cops fighting monsters. Seriously. This show is said to be a faux-documentary that follows the Undead Task Force, which battles zombies, vampires and werewolves that have overrun the San Fernando Valley. So, it’s like COPS, but instead of cops dealing with drunken hookers, it’ll feature cops dealing with vampires and other supernatural baddies. Death Valley already has a few cast members lined up – Caity Lotz (Mad Men) and Tania Raymonde (Lost).
According to senior VP production Tony DiBari, “Death Valley is the perfect combination of horror and comedy, two genres we know our audience responds to. That blend, combined with a fast pace and gritty ‘follow doc’ visual style, will take viewers on a wild ride where they are never sure what’s around the next corner.”
Yeah, I admit it, I can’t wait to miss Death Valley.
Second up is NBC, who purchased Austin Winsberg’s spec script Zombies vs. Vampires. The potential series would follow two cops living in a world where zombies are part of society and commit devious zombie crimes. Where do the vampires fit in? Well, one of the cops is secretly a vampire.
