Watch McAllen actor J.d. Mata on HBO's 'True Blood' Sunday, July 31

Nothing Ol' Dallas likes better than local paper  " hometown boy/girl makes good"  articles about True Blood actors UNLESS it's an article about a TEXAS actor !! Go McAllen!

When J.d. Mata stepped into the audition room at HBO studios in Hollywood, the McAllen native was careful not to break character. The producers were in search of the perfect brujo – a medicine man who was solemn and mysterious, and Mata was determined to become him.

“(My agent) said ‘Be the character, do not be J.D.,’” Mata said.

The University of Texas-Pan American graduate followed his agent’s advice, and before he knew it, he was scheduled to star in one of the network’s highest-rated shows. This Sunday, July 31, at 9 p.m. Mata will appear as “Tio Luca” on the HBO drama “True Blood.”

Sam Trammell on True Blood’s Emmy Shutout, His Pal Peter Dinklage, and Running Into Ozzy Osbourne

Unlike his True Blood character, Sam Trammell can wax philosophical on both astrophysics and the band Rush alike. Not impressed? He can also discuss all of the above in French, enfoiré. But these days, the actor (a.k.a. diner owner/shape-shifter/nice-guy-with-a-past Sam Merlotte) is more preoccupied with genetics: as in his still-gestating twin sons with actress-girlfriend Missy Yager. Vulture interrupted Trammell, who's busy nesting at home in L.A., to talk to him about his True Blood plotline, his castmates' drinking habits, his days partying with Peter Dinklage, and what to do if a serial killer cocoons you in Saran Wrap.

Stephem Moyer dishes little known “True Blood”-related trivia and secrets behind Punk Bill

By now, most fans of “True Blood” know a few details regarding the personal lives of the show’s stars – like how Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer are married. But the show is actually filled with dozens of more quiet references to the stars, details Access Hollywood uncovered at Comic-Con.

For starters, in Episode 2, which aired on the HBO drama just a few weeks ago, the scene that sees Stephen’s character, Bill, in a flashback in time, set in London in the early 1980s, was inspired by the Essex-bred star’s own life.

“That was fun,” Stephen grinned, when Access asked about the moment, penned by longtime “True Blood” writer Brian Buckner.

The episode featured Stephen, with spiky, Sid Vicious style hair, and a leather jacket, hanging out with punk rockers.

“I had a sort of a punk leaning. I was more of a mod,” Stephen explained. “Actually, 1982, I was into The Jam. I was bit young for The Jam, but I just followed them obsessively. But it was really great. And I live very near Camden when I’m in London and that’s set in Camden.”

Teen Choice Releases Inaugural ‘Vampire Award’ Shortlist

Yes, you’re reading that right, Teen Choice ’11 actually has a category for ‘Choice Vampire’, thus proving themselves to be far more progressive than the, frankly intolerant Academy Awards will ever be. It’s about time vampires received recognition for their acting prowess and it’s a bold move by Teen Choice (now in its 13th year) to include these supernatural beings in their award categories.
A spokesperson for Teen Choice has today issued a statement in which they lampooned the other award ceremonies, calling them “bigoted” and adding that “their [other award ceremonies] refusal to recognise the thespian talents of other-worldly actors actresses is now bordering on the ridiculous, we [Teen Choice] have decided to lead by example, and from now on will be including at least one category for best supernatural being every year.”

Of course that didn’t happen, it would be ridiculous. However, Teen Choice has actually announced the nominees for “Choice Vampire” (it does indeed exist), which are as follows:
Nina Dobrev – The Vampire Diaries
Robert Pattinson – Twilight
Nikki Reed – Twilight
Alexander Skarsgård – True Blood
Ian Somerhalder – The Vampire Diaries
Paul Wesley – The Vampire Diaries
