Loving True Blood in Dallas: Bon Temps License Plate Contest part 2

Ok, you have True Blood on-demand and on DVD there is no reason why you can't tell me whose car these license plates these are ( see below)
I will post the first 3 yesterday and here are the last 4.

Send me an email with you guesses, the FIRST 3 correct answers go into a drawing for an autographed Sookie book !

Email: True Blood in Dallas

Contest ends tomorrow night 9pm central time !

Go Ask Dallas: Are the Sookie short stories really that important to understanding the Sookie series ?

Dallas

I know that " A Touch of Dead " is going to be a book of Sookie short stories but do I need to buy it and how important are the short stories to understanding the whole series ?

Thanks, Life3

Dear Life3

The most important short story to understanding the whole Sookie series is 'One Word Answer' from Bite but I think many of them hold very interesting tidbits, maybe not as profound as 'Bite' but pretty darn important.

I think the entire body of Sookie's and Sookieverse (happen in Sookie's world but Sookie does not appear) short stories are as important as missing a whole book would be.

What I like to say is " you won't believe what you DON'T know if you haven't read the short stories"

A Touch of Dead , the anthology out in October is Sookie short stories, NOT including the Sookieverse ones (that's a copyright issue) More info here

As to how important the short stories are, for example in book 9, Dead and Gone you don't know about the reference (it's also one of the book's mistakes) to the triplet of Claude and Claudine if you haven't read 'Fairy Dust' from Powers of Detection. This is also where Sookie first learns of lemon juice and their lethal effect on fairies.

Also in book 9, you don't know how deep Eric's fascination is ( when he tells Sookie about Renfield ) with Dracula unless you've 'Dracula Night' from Many Bloody Returns

And about the insurance agency in Bon Temps where Amelia works (and it ain't your usual insurance agency -as you might imagine) unless you've read 'Lucky' from Unusual Suspects.

You also don't know when book 9 opens it's really has only been a few weeks since Sookie had a sexual liaison if you haven't read 'Gift Wrap' from Wolfsbane and Mistletoe.

These are just some things from Dead and Gone you MISSED unless you've read all the short stories.

Probably the most important for the overall storyline is 'One Word Answer' from Bite - and you are completely in the dark about all the facts really surrounding Hadley's death and her relationship to Queen Sophie-Anne unless you've read that story.

The hardest Sookieverse story to read (it's really actually a novella ) but one of the MOST beloved is called , 'Dancers in the Dark' from Night's Edge and YOU had no idea in All Together Dead what the deal was with those dancing vampires that entertained at Rhodes if you haven't read this story. Sean and Layla are the most amazing vampires and vamp couple in maybe all the Sookieverse.

We can also this year expect a Dhalia story in July from Charlaine so you better have read 'Tacky' from My Big Fat Supernatural Wedding you better get going. Strange Brew will have the story ' Bacon' with the character Dahlia that you met in 'Tacky' out July 7th Info and to pre-order here

We can expect one more Sookieverse short stories from Charlaine this year. There will also be a science fiction novella based on the Britlingens (the bodyguards from All Together Dead). It will appear in a three-in-one book called Must Love Hellhounds out in September Info and to pre-order here

Now you can wait until October comes to read some of these in the anthology A Touch of Dead or you can get busy now .

I'd say the sooner the better, because as Dallas says " you won't believe what you DON'T know if you haven't read the short stories"

More about all the Sookie short stories can be found here
You don't have to buy all these books, the best way to read them all and for free is here

True Blood Season 2 : What you should know already

Also if you just want to know what we know so far by episode see below

Season 2 Episodes

True Blood BloodCopy : Just Say No

Monday night as I was kicking back in the nest watching the latest Real Nest (it's like Real World, but with vampires), happily watching Carlos be a total prick to his nestmates,

a disturbing ad (see video at left) popped up, nestled between a GEICO commercial and a cute spot for Mini Cooper.

Apparently, a new PSA campaign featuring real-life broken-down bloodheads bemoaning their status as V addicts has begun. The ads are a course in grittiness, and (I hope) a wake-up call to all of you who think that trying just one drop of vampire blood is a harmless endeavor.

V is no joke, people. It's our blood and it should stay in our bodies. I know, I know, we feed on your blood (or at least want to), but some things in life aren't fair.

Quinn in 'Dead and Gone'

I have very strong opinions about the Quinn's appearance in Dead and Gone ( and as you guys know I am not a "shipper" ( someone who wants a relationship) for any of the characters to have a permanent relationship with Sookie.

But I thought this was an interesting tidbit from Charlaine this week on her blog...

duckpond100

Quinn has his own set of problems and his own emotional scars. He's used to solving his problems with his fists, not with finesse. Though closely watched, he could have called Sookie, but he's not a man who's reliant on words only, and kept thinking he'd rather tell her face to face and then things would be all right. True Blood : Blood Copy party the Freaks Come Out At Night

All of you SoHo-dwellers wondering what that red glow in the sky was last night, consider your mystery solved-it was the rooftop of Gawker Media, aglitter with partygoers, human and vampire, toasting the premiere of Bloodcopy.com.

Luminaries from the worlds of online and print media, advertising, film, and blood-sucking broke out their finest blazers and tossed back Bloody Mary oyster shots (humans) or TruBloody Marys (vampires). (I may have been over-served, because I can't find my messenger bag anywhere. I left it by the drink warmer and I fear that someone nicked it.)

Anyway, check out the photo gallery below. As you can see, there were a couple of strange characters there (what's with the staring girl?), so I'm not surprised there was some drama. Let's hope my missing bag was the worst of it…

Buffy the Vampire Slayer alumni event

Embrace your nerdiness

When you arrive, you’ll get a packet about your character’s identity. But be sure to bone up on Buffy facts and witty banter beforehand, so you can dominate the trivia smackdown: Winners will score Sunnydale-related prizes (along with the requisite admiration and envy), and one lucky alum will also be presented with the “Class Protector” award.

Party like it’s 1999
Expect to shake it to classic Britney Spears, the Spice Girls as well as the various Bronze-friendly artists who soundtracked various episodes (like Cibo Matto and Fatboy Slim). Character-based costumes and end-of-the-century attire aren’t required, but they’ll certainly come in handy during the Buffy-oke contest.

Remember the dearly departed
Event organizer Clinton McClung compiled an Oscars-style video that pays tribute to Sunnydalers who met their demise at the hands/jaws/pincers of the Hellmouth’s various demons and dangers. But don’t lob too many insults—you never know who might be ready to rise again and invite you to join their killer after-party.

WELCOME BACK TO THE HELLMOUTH!: The Sunnydale High School Class of 1999 Ten Year Reunion: Galapagos Art Space, 16 Main St at Water St, Dumbo, Brooklyn (718-222-8500, buffysings.com). Wednesday 3 at 8pm, $10.

True Blood Back at Comic Con 2009

From daemonstv.com

Stephen Moyer revealed to me this morning that TRUE BLOOD would be back at Comic Con this year. We were at the True Blood panel last year, and you can bet that we'll make sure to be there this year as well.

In addition, Stephen Moyer also told me to expect some great things for the new season of True Blood and I personally can't wait for the premiere on June 14.

This is of course part of a longer interview that Stephen Moyer gave us this morning. I will post the full interview within a few days. So stay tuned for more.

True Blood in New York City

Advertising for HBO's 'True Blood' Bends Truth a Bit

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- With its tales of vampires who walk among us, HBO's "True Blood" series certainly blurs the lines of what is real and what is fantastic. Now the Time Warner cable network's ad campaign for the series is trying to do the same.
True Blood

"True Blood" promos have received lots of attention over the last week, thanks in part to a bit of online brouhaha over the seeming addition of Bloodcopy, an adverblog HBO created last year to promote the show, to Gawker Media, the operator of such blogs as Gawker and Jezebel. What's more, the cable outlet has unveiled print ads that seem to promote real products and services from Geico, Gillette, BMW's Mini Cooper, Harley-Davidson, Ecko and Monster -- but act as if the audiences for these popular goods are vampires.

Next up, an advertorial in Conde Nast Publications' Vanity Fair that features famous people hobnobbing with vampires at buzzy events, and an eight-page take-off of AM New York, the free metro daily, that will be distributed to commuters.

HBO's idea is to play along "that fine line of fully disrupting someone's experience and at the same time immersing them in your experience," said Zach Enterlin, VP-advertising and promotions for HBO.

This marks HBO's second effort to generate attention for "True Blood," which portrays a world in which the development of a synthetic blood product in Japan has allowed vampires to "come out" of their coffins, as it were, with all kinds of cultural ramifications. Starting last May, HBO began sending mailers to vampire hobbyists and bloggers; set up the website BloodCopy.com, which featured discussions and a blog (and has now returned); distributed viral videos; and, most memorable of all, perhaps, delivered samples of a red beverage known as "Tru Blood," while distributing ads for the drink online and in alternative weeklies.

The ads may have helped create a community of fans for the program. While the first episode of "True Blood" snared about 1.44 million viewers in its first telecast, the audience built steadily during the show's first season, according to Nielsen. By the first run of the season finale, the audience had increased to more than 2.44 million. On average, the first season of "True Blood" attracted about 2.02 million live and same-day viewers for first-run episodes, according to Nielsen.
Advertising Age Embedded Player

Does HBO worry about consumers actually believing some of these promotions? Already, the Gawker-BloodCopy.com alliance has generated some controversy online. "The goal isn't to really mislead at all," Mr. Enterlin said. "It's just igniting curiosity. I think the way the ads are done, there's a certain amount of known quantity with a wink. It inspires a double take. We're trying to make them as authentic as possible, but it's an absolute necessity that they have that element of 'wink.'"
Campaign Includes Faux Blog, Faux Cinema Ads and Faux Free Daily

The campaign contains many other elements, including evening weather reports on radio for vampires who might just be starting their day; a faux ad for movie theaters made to look like the ads for local businesses that normally appear before the show starts; and a faux weekly newsmagazine set to appear on HBO on Demand and HBO internet platforms that includes a segment called "The Vampire Report." That segment will cover "notable events that have occurred over the past week as vampires continue their integration into human society," according to HBO.

In a sign of the complexity these ideas require, HBO is working with six different creative and media-buying agencies. New York-based Campfire is the creative force behind the Bloodcopy.com blog, as well as some viral videos that will be issued as part of the campaign. Another agency, Digital Kitchen, crafted the "vampire product" ad, while Ignition has been working on ads that drive viewers to tune in to the program. Another agency, Red Creative, worked on online ads to entice viewers to tune in. Omnicom Group's PHD placed the more traditional advertising, while Deep Focus did online media buying for certain parts of the campaign.

Alexander Skarsgard (fans) angry that his name was misspelled and Lady Gaga Angry That Epic 'Paparazzi' Video Leaked

*just kidding ( maybe I should say AS fans are angry ) but they did misspell his name in the credits on the video **
From MTV

Cut to Gaga in bed with Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgård, best known in this country for playing Meekus in Ben Stiller's 2001 classic "Zoolander" and creepy vampire Eric Northman on HBO's "True Blood." Rolling around in bed, whispering sweet nothings in Swedish, surrounded by $100 bills with her face on them, Gaga makes out with Skarsgård for a bit, before he carries her out to the balcony for more action.

She quickly realizes he's set her up to be photographed by hidden paparazzi, and smashes his face with a champagne bottle. As she struggles to get away, he tosses her over the balcony, leaving her in a crumpled heap on the ground below as the paps snap pictures of her bloody body.

'True Blood' HBO series moves to Louisiana beat

from the Louisiana Advocate

Let’s say you are music supervisor for an HBO series about redneck vampires in backwoods Louisiana. What’s the best place to find music for the show? The musically rich state of Louisiana, naturally.

During the first season of True Blood, the music of Baton Rouge swamp blues man Slim Harpo, New Orleans’ Dr. John, Lee Dorsey and Allen Toussaint and Lafayette’s C.C. Adcock accompanied the exploits of mind-reading waitress Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) and her 173-year-old soul mate, vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer).

All of the above recording artists appear on the recently released True Blood soundtrack CD as well as non-Louisianians Ryan Adams, the Watson Twins, Little Big Town, John Doe and Jace Everett.

Adcock and his band, the Lafayette Marquis, wrote and recorded their CD selection, “Bleed 2 Feed,” specifically for the show.

“To be on the same record with Lee Dorsey, Allen Toussaint and Slim Harpo,” Adcock said, “not to mention Dr. John and Lucinda Williams, is very cool company indeed.”

Adcock and the Lafayette Marquis appear in episode 10 of the first season, I Don’t Wanna Know. Playing themselves, they perform five songs at Arlene and Rene’s engagement party at Merlottes, Sookie’s place of employment.

“Playing a redneck vampire isn’t a stretch for me,” Adcock said.

Alan Ball, True Blood creator and executive producer, discovered Adcock through iTunes. The intro scene for the series’ first episode, in fact, features Adcock’s song, “Y’all’d Think She’d Be Good 2 Me.”

“After we sought clearance for his song,” music supervisor Gary Calamar said from Los Angeles, “C.C. learned about the show and got excited about it. He also wanted to show Louisiana in the great light in which it should be seen.”

True Blood Blood Copy : Top 5 Ringtones for Vampires

hmmm I bet you guys can think of better songs ringtones for vamps ?
Suggestions ?

The best part about acquiring new technology is customization. Blood-red wallpaper? Check. Clock set to Sundown-Countdown? Check. And we all know that choosing a ringtone, of all of the possible tweaks, is the most important.

What song you're going to annoy your friends, family, and random strangers with for at least 2 years (length of phone contract) is a monumental decision. So if you're one of those vampires (or a human with vampyric tendencies), here's a round-up of the 5 most popular ringtones among vampires.

1. "My Life Would Suck Without You" - Kelly Clarkson
Vampires like to think that this one is an ode from new vampires to their makers. Plus, there's the whole sucking part.

2. "Dead and Gone" - T.I. featuring Justin Timberlake
We think this one's a little menacing. Just a little. Like JT in a leotard.

3. "Love Cats" - The Cure
Picture Robert Smith. Some of us look the way you think we might look. There may or may not be a connection between those two sentences.

4. "Thriller" - Michael Jackson
To be funny.

5. "Call Me" - Blondie

True Blood Bloodcopy : Guess the Vampire! and Win an iPod nano

UPDATE: One lucky reader can win a blood-red iPod nano if they correctly guess the vampire. If more than one reader submits the correct answer, a winner will be chosen at random. Send your entry to andrew@bloodcopy.com. Make sure to include your email address. Contest details below. Good luck!

Welcome to the inaugural Guess the Vampire contest, the game where we ask readers to leave comments and vote for the person they think is a vampire from a selection of "man-on-the-street" photos.

The idea behind this little quiz is to prove to any doubters out there who think that all vampires have glow-in-the-dark fangs, bloodshot eyes, and Count Chocula capes, that anyone, even your most average-looking of folks, can be a vampire. Exhibits 1-6 at left.

Last night, the Bloodcopy staff took to the streets to partake in some mixed-being nightlife. Andrew threw back a few bottles of warm TruBlood (Type B, known as the "aggressive and energizing" type), while the rest of the staff enjoyed a selection of microbrews. We surveyed the scene, and picked our victims (it's a metaphor! jokes!).

So look at the photographs. Look long and hard. Can you spot the vampire?

Spotlighting author: Charlaine Harris writing tip look in your character's purse !

Page Crutcher does a great interview with Charlaine - she actually asks her some different and interesting questions ! Amazing!

So what is in Sookie purse ?

The week that I spoke with Charlaine Harris her novel, Dead and Gone, reached #3 on the New York Times best seller list. This isn't surprising.
Charlaine uses her pen to draw out worlds full of sexy, comical and real characters that may or may not be of the supernatural variety, 'supes' as her feisty, yet vulnerable, heroine Sookie Stackhouse calls them.
These are the kinds of novels you slink deep down into. Like warm bath water, they keep you drifting, content to stay for as long as you can in their enchanting and often tumultuous universe. She doesn't create characters. She creates friends.
Humble, sassy and honest, Charlaine doesn't shimmer. She sparkles. Speaking with her is insightful, entertaining and motivating. She's living her dream, without blinders on and loving where her path, with all its bends and curves, takes her.
Charlaine will tell you, if you want to be a writer, "it is necessary to read and read and read. The first thing you have to do to be a writer - read widely across all genres." She practices what she preaches..

True Blood Season 2 Cliffhangers: Whose foot is that in Andy's car ?

Whose foot is that in Andy's car?

There is increasingly less certainty about that being Lafayette's foot.
<--Lafayette painting his toes on the bar. When Alan Ball said in "A Touch of Blood" that " book readers will know that the foot is Lafayette " we all decided that if it really was, HE WOULD NEVER say that ...

So now there is speculation that the foot might be
someone else maybe Lettie Mae or maybe Miss Jeanette.

True Blood Season 2 Possible Title Song: Ep. 10 "New World In My View"

This is exciting ! We now (might) know the titles of the first 11 episodes of True Blood for Season 2.

Now the one thing we know for sure about True Blood is that the episode names come from the a song used in in the soundtrack of that episode and that it is somehow significant to that episode.

So far for Season 2 we have :
Episode 2.01 - Nothing but the Blood
Episode 2.02 - Keep this Party Going
Episode 2.03 - Changed to Scratches from Scratch My Back
Episode 2.04 - Changed to Shake and Fingerpop from Let's Take a Trip Together
Episode 2.05 - Never let me go
Episode 2.06 - Friend is a Four Letter Word
Episode 2.07 - Release me
Episode 2.08 - Timebomb
Episode 2.09 - I will rise up

All we know about Season 2 spoilers, casting calls etc. can be found here
All Season 2 videos ( including my great slide shows) here

We know that Alan Ball and the amazing Gary Calamar put great effort into musically curating True Blood !

Episode 2.10 - New World In My View , this is only my guess, I just research the various songs with the leaked title and come up with a song I think it might be.

I think it might be New World in My View by Sister Getrude Morgan, the remix by King Britt y0u can hear them both versions here

All Things Considered, did a great report on Sister Morgan in September 30, 2005 just months after Katrina.

One gem of New Orleans culture was long gone before Hurricane Katrina hit, but her music and message are poised to reach larger audiences when a Philadelphia-based production team rolls out its remix and tour.

Sister Gertrude Morgan was born in 1900 in Alabama and died in 1980. At age 39, she decided to carry God's message to what she called the "headquarters of sin," New Orleans. It was there she preached, painted -- and recorded an album.

Let's Make a Record, issued in 1970, was a cappella gospel with Morgan's tambourine as accompaniment. Though her paintings became widely collected and displayed, the album remained obscure.

Read on and you can hear the wonderful episode of All Things Considered HERE

Fascinating mini-documentary about the making of the album with King Britt.

True Blood : Ausiello Spoilers after watching first 4 Season 2 episodes

Question: Since you've seen the first four True Blood episodes of season 2, is there anything you can share? --Sanna

Ausiello: They're bloody fangtastic! (Never. Gets. Old.) Seriously, season 2 -- premiering June 14 -- gets off to a thrilling, gory, scary, sexy, disgusting, funny, suspenseful start. Alan Ball would drive a wooden stake through my heart if I spoiled any of the big twists (i.e. my lips are sealed about the fate of a certain flamboyant vampire blood dealer), but here are a few juicy morsels to whet your appetite:

• There are three orgies, all of them powered by Maryann's (Michelle Forbes) aphrodisiac fairy dust.

• Alexander Skarsgard's Nordic vamp has an extremely homoerotic encounter with a character who shall remain nameless. In related news, there are about two dozen gratuitous shirtless shots in the first four episodes, all of them belonging to either Mechad Brooks (Tara's new BF, Eggs) or Ryan Kwanten (Jason).

• Sookie has a very revealing conversation with a new character in episode 4.

• If you're wondering what secret Merlotte's newest waitress (played by Ashley Jones) is harboring, a clue can be found on her skin.

True Blood Season 2 Cliffhangers: How does MaryAnn know Sam Merlotte ?

In Episode 12 of Season one MaryAnn comes to pick up Tara from Sookie's house, the night of the Rene attack. Sam looks very surprised and worried. She says "Did you think I wasn't go to find you ? You silly, silly dog !"

From the Episode 2.03: “Nothing But the Blood” description from HBO , we learn that in this episode "Sam (Sam Trammell) recalls a shape-shifting encounter he had with Maryann (Michelle Forbes) as a 17-year-old."In the "Taste of Blood " season 2 clips we see this meeting between MaryAnn and the 17 year old Sam.

We do know that where Sam says to her " go ahead and turn me" it looks as if Maryann can turn Sam into a dog at her whim. ( see photo above)

True Blood's Ryan Kwanten a "Hottie" in Women's Health Magazine

From Women's Health Magazine

Hottie: Ryan Kwanten
On HBO's True Blood, the 32-year-old actor spends an inordinate amount of time half-naked. We got him to bare even more: his thoughts on love and dating.
Christine Fennessy

1. As an Australian living in the U.S., have you spotted any differences between Aussie and American women?
Australian women tend to tell it like it is—even if it's the brutal, honest truth. I think American women usually break it to you a little easier. There's a softer side to them.

2. What's one mistake you see women making in relationships?
Trying out the "I love yous" after a week or two [of dating]. You have to give it time before you start [saying that]. I like exploring the mystery of a relationship instead of laying it all out on the table at the beginning.

3. Care to let us in on your most embarrassing dating moment?
I arrived at this girl's house and her dad answered the door. The guy was huge—in my head, he seemed close to seven feet tall and 300 pounds. He looked down at me and said, "Can I help you?" I said, "Yeah, I'm here to see—" and I forgot the girl's name! I was just looking up at him thinking, Oh, God, please don't squash me!

Read on there is a mention of Scrabble ;-)

HBO True Blood Escape the Everyday Sweepstakes

You guys remember to play everyday! great prizes !

There is a little spoiler mystery even in the game. In the game we see pages like Merlotte's and the cemetery, on the cemetery page there is this icon to click on ( see image below right), it's the tombstone for Lafayette Reynolds . I'll tell ya since watching Alan Ball on the 'A Taste of Blood' documentary last weekend where he states, " anyone that's read the books will tell you it's Lafayette " makes me think IT WON'T be his foot ! ( although maybe his body will be in the trunk ;))

Now, don't get me wrong, I think Lafayette will die but Ball might drag out the intrigue a little into Season 2

The supernatural beasties are coming over from across the pond. Being Human is finally going to get some American air time, which means no more choppy YouTubey scrap-watching for me.

The series, which literally is about a young werewolf, vampire and ghost all sharing a flat in Bristol together, is like Friends, if the cast mates sometimes murdered people and turned them into bloodsucking immortals and wolf people.

The bumbly little fellow who plays the mild-mannered werewolf, George, is awfully endearing, you should tune in just for him. The ghost is a obnoxious dead lady, but pehaps I would be too if I was stuck wearing the same clothes forever. All in all, its a cute little series (from what I've seen) and if it stays on the "troubles with dating a werewolf" path it will continue that way. Sadly it looks like it's veering off into some strange vampire war that I can't particularly understand, and I'm not sure I care for.

True Blood Blood Copy :You Are Invited! Sort of.

Send Andrew a photo !

Ever dream of rubbing shoulders with New York's media elite, both human and vampire? Then participate in our reader contest, where ten lucky winners will be put on the glow-in-the-dark guest list for tomorrow night's celebration bash for the brand-new Bloodcopy/Gawker union.

To enter, email me at bloodcopy@gawker.com with a picture of yourself standing in front of (or inside of) a place that you know is a vampire hangout, along with a couple of sentences about what gave it away. For example: did you see a man in a three-piece suit order a "Bloody Mary" at the W Hotel around 3 AM? Spot a kid in a trucker hat flick out his fangs whilst skateboarding through a pre-dawn Tompkins Square Park?

Responses are due by noon tomorrow. I'll be going through them, picking my favorites, then choosing ten at random. Good luck...

True Blood Blood Copy : Die Laughing

This video, of a hardworking, up-and-coming vampire comedian has given me a case of the mal humor. Let's talk about bad moods for a second. We vampires do love a mood. In fact, I'd say a lot of us are just straight up moody.

Have you seen one around an empty case of TruBlood? Not cute.

Hecklers, though an occupational hazard, can put even the most experienced comedian in a bad mood. A particularly nasty heckler might even make a former-sitcom-star-turned stand-up, say, lash out at the audience while being recorded on some frat boy's camera phone.

But heckling a vampire is a dangerous endeavor. Nothing puts vampire comedians in a worse mood than hecklers. We are in a delicate situation, people, and don't take kindly to outright slurs in a public setting (or a private one, for that matter). Provoking a vampire who is just trying to do his thing, then filming his reaction, then throwing the video up on the Internet is like teasing a puppy with a cracker then eating yourself. Well, not exactly. But it's mean.

Be kind. Or else.

—Andrew

Charlaine Harris on Jeff Farias Radio Show

** Charlaine does say she is more than a 1/3 of the way done with Sookie 10 and the book will be out in May of 2010.

Charlaine Harris did a little interview with progressive talker, Jeff Farias

"The Jeff Farias Show 5/26/09"

Charlaine Harris - has been a published novelist for over twenty-five years. A native of the Mississippi Delta, she grew up in the middle of a cotton field. Now she lives in southern Arkansas with her husband, her three children, three dogs, and a duck. The duck stays outside. Though her early output consisted largely of ghost stories, by the time she hit college (Rhodes, in Memphis) Charlaine was writing poetry and plays. After holding down some low-level jobs, she had the opportunity to stay home and write, and the resulting two stand-alones were published by Houghton Mifflin.

After a child-producing sabbatical, Charlaine latched on to the trend of writing mystery series, and soon had her own traditional books about a Georgia librarian, Aurora Teagarden. Her first Teagarden, REAL MURDERS, garnered an Agatha nomination. Soon Charlaine was looking for another challenge, and the result was the much darker Lily Bard series. The books, set in Shakespeare, Arkansas, feature a heroine who has survived a terrible attack and is learning to live with its consequences. When Charlaine began to realize that neither of those series was ever going to set the literary world on fire, she regrouped and decided to write the book she’d always wanted to write. Not a traditional mystery, nor yet pure science fiction or romance, DEAD UNTIL DARK broke genre boundaries to appeal to a wide audience of people who just enjoy a good adventure.

Each subsequent book about Sookie Stackhouse, telepathic Louisiana barmaid and friend to vampires, werewolves, and various other odd creatures, has drawn more readers. The southern vampire books are published in Japan, Great Britain, Greece, Germany, Thailand, Spain, France, and Russia. In addition to Sookie, Charlaine has another heroine with a strange ability. Harper Connelly, lightning-struck and strange, can find corpses . . . and that’s how she makes her living. In addition to her work as a writer, Charlaine is the past senior warden of St. James Episcopal Church, a board member of Mystery Writers of America, a past board member of Sisters in Crime, a member of the American Crime Writers League, and past president of the Arkansas Mystery Writers Alliance. She spends her “spare” time reading, watching her daughter play sports, traveling, and going to the movies.”
