Charlaine Harris's Mom's obit in Tunica Times

Doris Jean Balentine Harris

Doris Jean Balentine Harris, 84, died Sept. 20, 2010 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital after a long illness. She was born Nov. 23, 1925 to May Laine and Lemuel Balentine of Rocksprings, TX.

Following her marriage to R.A. Harris in 1946, she became a devoted member of Tunica Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Harris taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and served as an elder. Mrs. Harris briefly taught school in Tunica and for several years worked as a librarian at the Tunica County Library.
A lifelong avid reader, Mrs. Harris was also an enthusiastic fan of  the St. Louis Cardinals and a notable cook.

Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her husband Robert Harris; her son Ashley Harris, and his wife, Linda House Harris; her two sisters, Georgia May Gobble and Vivian Hutchins; and her brother Jack Balentine.
Survivors include daughter Charlaine Schulz, Charlaine’s husband Hal, and their children, Patrick, Timothy, and Julia.  Mrs. Harris also leaves a nephew, Rodney Balentine, a brother in law and his wife, Buddy and Jean Harris, and their children and grandchildren.
The family gratefully acknowledges the individual help of Linda McKinley and Angela Vardamon.
Visitation will be Friday, September 24, 2010 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Nowell Memorial Funeral Home in Tunica. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at the Tunica Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Paul Husband officiating.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Tunica Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, Charlaine asks that you please send donations in her mother's name (Jean Harris) to the Tunica Library, where she worked for many years, or to her mother's church.
