Becca Wilcott: ‘True Blood’ primer and season 3, episode 1 recap

#waitingsucks. Or so says the rabid Twitter True Blood fan base. With last night’s Season Three premiere, the wait ended. And it didn’t suck. Literally. There was a surprising lack of feeding. You’d almost think True Blood was a show about — gasp — relationships!
For those new to the show, True Blood is an ensemble “pulp opera” that so far has introduced us to real vampires who live in mainstream society, able to survive on a synthetic blood replacement. One such vampire is Bill Compton, who at the end of Season Two has just proposed to his girlfriend, the telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse. Sookie initially expresses hesitation — things have been pretty messed up in Bon Temps — but after some reflection in the  powder room, she bounds out with an enthusiastic yes, just in time to miss seeing Bill dragged off by unidentified kidnappers.

‘True Blood’s Alan Ball: The Series Could Run As Long As The Books

After Sunday night’s hot season premiere of ‘True Blood,’ many fans are probably hoping the series will live forever, just like the vampires it chronicles.  However, most HBO series are decidedly mortal.  ‘The Sopranos‘  and ‘Sex and The City‘ lasted six seasons, ‘Six Feet Under‘ and ‘The Wire‘ lasted five.  ‘Deadwood‘ only lasted three.  ‘True Blood’s’ creator Alan Ball thinks that the series has the potential to beak HBO’s longevity record and run almost as many seasons as ‘Law and Order.’
Ball explained, “I think ‘True Blood’ could run longer than ‘Six Feet Under’ [also created by Ball] because of the supernatural element.  There’s just so many areas to create stories that we didn’t have on ‘Six Feet Under’.  Literally by the fourth season we started to hit the wall.  It was like what about –oh no we did that in season two.  But because of the supernatural element in ‘True Blood’ I feel like it could continue much longer.”

True Blood, Season 3, Episode 1: Beck Is Thicker Than Water

Jef is now part of our team for our Talk True Blood Blogtalk radio show !

Alan Ball was known for his masterful use of music in Six Feet Under. He's lost none of his touch when it comes to his current HBO series, True Blood - which happens to be set in the Louisiana swamps, not terribly far from Houston.

Episode 13.1: Bad Blood

Welcome back to Bon Temps, LA, where the men drink blood, the women hear your thoughts, and the children don't figure much into the R-rated happenings. When last we left True Blood, Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) was rushing out of the bathroom of a very nice restaurant to tell Vampire Bill (Stephen Moyer) that indeed she would be his until her death did they part when he was suddenly abducted. We pick up the vamp-napping in progress as three hillbillies take turns using Bill like a wine cooler in the backseat in order to get high off his blood.

Blood figures in any vampire series. It's kind of a big deal. But the impression Gothtopia gets is that the concept of tainted blood will play a big part in this season. Are we as people, even undead or shape shifting people, fated to become like those whose blood gave us life in the first place? Certainly nurture battles nature. The children of rock stars become accountants. Last we heard, none of the children adopted from the Manson family, including Charlie's own biological children, have become hypnotic murderers. And yet, 500 years after the death of Vlad the Impaler (Who served as the inspiration of Bram Stoker's Dracula), one of his direct descendants owned and operated a Turkish blood bank. Is a blood link to a bloody past an indicator of an inescapable fate?

"True Blood" Star Really Wanted to Be a Physicist

LOS ANGELES (Back Stage) - Sam Trammell planned to become a theoretical physicist, but was forced to lower his sights while studying at Brown University after realizing he was not a genius.
He certainly never imagined himself an actor, let alone one who plays a shape-shifter on a hit HBO show about vampires. The series is "True Blood," created by Alan Ball based on the novels of Charlaine Harris, and Trammell is enjoying the unexpected development.
"I wanted to stop thinking," he says of his career switch. "I wink when I say that. You have to be smart to be a good actor. But acting took me out of my head and back into my body."
He admits that early in his career, he had a condescending attitude toward television. He would not have considered auditioning for the small screen. But he now thinks TV writing -- especially for cable -- is far superior to most film writing, calling our current era a golden age for television.
His featured role on "True Blood," now in its third season, is a career turning point. Appearing in Eugene O'Neill's "Ah, Wilderness!" with New York's Lincoln Center Theater was pretty good too, he admits. After all, it earned him a Tony nomination. But his current gig has a huge weekly audience that crosses demographic lines.

True Blood Premier "Pack fof Wolves" review from Ken Tucker

True Blood‘s revved-up, slam-bang premiere picked up precisely where it left off last season, as Anna Paquin’s Sookie emerged from the ladies’ room only to find Stephen Moyers’ Bill gone, kidnapped… taken, it turned out, by SPOILER ALERT: DON’T READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN TONIGHT’S EPISODE a bunch of greasy meanies who’d prefer Bill call them “the F— You Crew,” but you got the feeling that Bill was eventually going to be referring to them as the I Chew You Crew. Bill chained in the back seat, with the nasty boys chomping on his neck, one spitting vampire blood into another’s mouth, a bit of nipple-play — gee, I almost became misty-eyed with nostalgia for the first season’s Vampire Prejudice As A Metaphor For Gay Rights theme.
But the hour left little time to wax nostalgic. Sookie had to scurry around trying to get help in locating Bill. There were quick early scenes to remind us of what had passed: Tara shed tears over a body-bag filled with her dead lover Eggs. Teen vamp Jessica was still hauling around that dead trucker she’d fed on late last season. (The running joke with her, and it’s a good one, is that the poor kid’s never been properly schooled in vampire do’s-and-don’ts, and seeks knowledge from the least sympathetic sources — such as Kristin Bauer van Straten’s Pam.)
