The Official Sookie Stackhouse Companion: Charlaine Harris cover released !

One of the things that fans of Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse novels have been asking for since Dead to the World is a companion book to the popular book series.
Well, we’ve talked about it on the podcast and now we have a cover to the most anticipated A-Z encyclopedia any character since the Outlandish Companion book.
The book will be released in February 2011 and in it you will see a new novella about Sam’s brother’s wedding, an interview with el maestro Alan Ball and much, much more.
One of the cool things about this book is that there is a section where Sookie answers questions from her devoted fans. You can be a contributor to this section by emailing your question to Sookie to askcharlaine@gmail.com. You only have a finite amount of time to do so… you have until June 26th to submit a question.

True Blood Recap: Meet the Vampire King of Mississippi

Was it just us, or did the first five minutes feel like a three-for-one genre special? Bill flinging a bloody werewolf ear into the sky in a spray of blood? Ripped from the pages of horror movie. Courtly organ music as the vampire king rides in on horseback sporting a crested blazer? Tally ho, period drama. A naked, cursing were-man named Cooter? Okay, that’s classic True Blood. But consider the scene a good primer on what to expect from this episode — camp that veers into farce, mounting sexual tension, new faces, rapid-fire plot development, and a whole mess of histrionics. Oh yeah, and half our cast meets their new love interest! (Sorry, Lettie Mae, better luck next time.)
Welcome to Were Country
Even without the Masterpiece Theater soundtrack and the silk ascot, Mississippi’s vampire king Russell Edgington (played by character actor Denis O’Hare) had a good chance of being the foppiest dude in the Delta. Turns out he’s also the one that hired the biker crew to kidnap Bill.

Wolfsangel symbol it's origins and the real life World War II commmando unit called "Wehrwolf"

From Wikipedia: Origin of symbol

The Wolfsangel (German for "wolf's hook") is a symbol originating in Germany. It is also known as the Wolf's Hook or Doppelhaken. The upright variant is also known as "thunderbolt" (Donnerkeil) and the horizontal variant as "werewolf".
Historically, the symbol possibly originated as a mason's mark and was used as a heraldic symbol in coats of arms. Today, the symbol appears in numerous city coats of arms. Due to its use by Nazi Germany, along with continuing use by Neo-Nazi organizations, the symbol is sometimes associated with Nazism as are many of the old folk symbols of the Germanic peoples, most notably the swastika.

From Wikipedia: "Operation Werewolf"

Werwolf (German for "werewolf", sometimes spelled "Wehrwolf") was the name given to a last-ditch Nazi plan, developed during the closing months of the Second World War, to create a German commando force which would operate behind enemy lines as the Allies advanced through Germany itself. Werwolf remained entirely ineffectual as a combat force, however, and in practical terms, its value as propaganda far outweighed its actual achievements. The allies however overestimated the threat and reacted accordingly. For example, the perceived Werwolf threat delayed dissolution of Rheinwiesenlager open air camps in the west, while 10,000 youths were interned in NKVD special camps in the east where half of them died.

Cuddle up with a vampire: New vampire toys for kids " Vamplets"

While I was at Toy Fair in NYC a few months ago, I came across an adorable new toy for kids. Called Vamplets, these cute and cuddly baby vampire plushies each with their own names and personalities. Thanks to the wonderful people at KidStuff, I was sent my very own baby Vamplet to get to know! Her name is Midnight Mori who has a cute personal statement: “A demon in diapers, bossy and restless, a fanatical leader you don’t want to mess with!” She has an adorable little pink bow with a skull on her head, and cute skull and cross bones diaper. I was also sent a little bottle filled with “blood,” and it’s one of those fun ones that when tilted the bottle empties.

Utah actress Lindsay "Crystal Norris" Pulsipher sucks up more opportunities with 'True Blood'

More hometown news !

It was seeing the movie "Annie" at age 8 that got Utah actor Lindsay Pulsipher dreaming about becoming a star.

Some 20 years later, the former Cottonwood Heights resident has made it in Hollywood -- though she's not belting out another version of "Tomorrow." Instead, she will be surrounded by bloodthirsty vampires in the new season of HBO's hit horror series "True Blood," where she will be a regular cast member for at least nine episodes. The new third season began June 13 on the pay cable network.

But it's not until Sunday's second episode that Pulsipher makes her first appearance as the mysterious Crystal Norris, a woman who becomes the new girlfriend of Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten).

"The writers are really focusing on the relationship between Crystal and Jason," she said from Los Angeles. "Up to this point, he has never settled down, and I think she really knocks him off his feet. They have this magical relationship, and it's brand new for both of them. It's kind of a powerful, explosive relationship."

She's Paquin a punch

ALL hail Anna Paquin: the Kiwi True Blood star has given a rare interview to an American magazine, in which she shows – yet again – that she is by far the coolest chick in Hollywood.
Paquin usually steers clear of the media but with fans in a frenzy over the run-up to True Blood's season three launch she probably had little choice.
The 27-year-old features on the cover of the July issue of Self, wearing an old-school floral bikini and daintily eating a slice of watermelon.
Snippets of the interview have been published online. Here's a rundown.
On her relationship with co-star Stephen Moyer, 40, which they kept secret for 10 months: "You don't want to bring personal stuff to work. Obviously, there's no guarantee it won't be complicated but it's not like we went into it completely blind. You can't choose who you fall in love with. It's a luxury to get to work with the person I want to spend the rest of my life with."

True Blood Ep 2 spoilers: bring on the Nazi werewolves !

A few highlights, to give you an idea of what I'm talking about:
- -Nazi werewolves! No, seriously. There are several flashbacks to the Second World War, when charismatic Nordic vampire Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard, stealing virtually every scene he's in) is a Nazi officer, fighting the good fight on the side of truth, light and righteous justice.
- -Anna Paquin is marvellous as Sookie Stackhouse, walking so many fine lines it's dizzying to watch. When she tells Eric, "Don't you underestimate me," and he snaps back, "Don't you underestimate yourself," about five different reactions flood across her face. This is refined acting.
- -Jason Stackhouse isn't just dumb. He's a whole other level of dumb. But you already know that.
- -A new character, Russell Edgington, the self-described "Vampire King of Mississippi," rides to Bill Compton's rescue in the middle of the night on a white polo pony, looking ridiculous in a burgundy tuxedo with a New England school crest, muttering pleasantries like, "You drank ... from my guest?"
- -Another new character -- a cursing werewolf who answers to the name "Cooter" -- takes serious offence whenever someone mentions his name out loud. "Call me that again," he seethes, with paranoiac rage: "I (expletive) dare you."

* "Operation Werewolf" refers to an German commando unit which fought at the end of World War II

** Sergeant Kinney", Caucasian or African-American, 20s. Sergeant Kinney appears in a flashback sequence to the German front of World War Two. He is a fresh-faced American soldier who is away from home for the first time. Though he is in a harsh and brutal environment, Sergeant Kinney somehow has a touch of naivete to him. While marching through Nazi Germany, he is approached by a frightened civilian German lady who begs for his help. He goes over to her to see if she is okay, but it turns out that this woman is actually a full-fledged Nazi, and he is met by a sudden attack. PRINCIPLE ROLE

"The Gates" new vampire TV show airs Sunday night ( starting tonight ) on ABC

Descendants of the “Dark Shadows” vampire - the godfather of all TV bloodsuckers - continue to multiply, this time on the scripted ABC drama “The Gates” (series premiere tonight at 10).

Kudos to ABC for not filling the hour with yet another song-and-dance reality show, but can there be room for another series based on vampire mythology? Frank Grillo has no doubt.
Grillo plays Nick Monohan, the town’s newest resident and recently installed police chief who remains, at least temporarily, blissfully unaware of the supernatural element running through the community

“True Blood” hottie Alexander Skarsgård is hitting his stride in the new season of the HBO vampire series, but it wasn’t always that way. His road to becoming an actor was tortured, which now makes his career all the more rewarding.

Long before he became an established actor, Alexander was a marine for 15 months in Sweden’s Army. He enlisted at 19 because he was looking for direction in his life.

While he worked as a child actor, he gave up on the craft during his teen years. But Skarsgård had an epiphany while undergoing grueling military training.
