Go Ask Dallas : What on earth does Becky in Hotshot say she'll share with Jason ?

Q: What the heck in a hangubber ?

A: Becky says to Jason " You want the rest of my hangubber?

Sandbox dictionary says :

han•gub•ber [HAN-guh-br] noun.
A beef patty, fried or grilled, usually served on a bread bun that sometimes comes with cheese.  "I want a hangubber and french fries!" Has also be pronounced hagenberger, hambugger or cheesegubber

Just a kids mispronunciation of hamburger ???

** From Dead to the World ..I wondered if I was at the right crossroads, but my doubts were
washed away when I saw an imitation green road sign, the kind you can order from a novelty company,
mounted on a pole in front of one of the homes. It read, HOTSHOT.

Fiona Shaw Dishes on True Blood Witches, the End of Harry Potter

Great interview

We’re in for some old school double, double toil and trouble this season on True Blood! Let’s just say, Lord Voldemort would be shaking on his broomstick if he came face to face with Marnie. In this exclusive interview with Wetpaint, Fiona Saw dishes on her role, how True Blood differs from Harry Potter, and the rumored Marnie + Eric love connection!

Wetpaint: What can you tell us about Marnie’s character? She seems so sweet and innocent, but we have a feeling she’s trouble.

Fiona Shaw: I love my character. We haven’t seen much of her yet, but she’s going to change into something quite amazing. It depends on how you look at it, but she definitely doesn’t remain as this little mouse who can just about juice a bird to fly. She seems to gain a few more powers due to tapping into a source who’s much more powerful than she is.

You have such an impressive career behind you, and especially after the huge success that was Harry Potter, it seems like you could have your pick

TB Episode 2 " She smells like dinner " preview (HBO) video

True Blood’s Rutina Wesley on Her ‘Feisty’ Character, the Origins of ‘Hooker,’ and Getting an Action Figure

Orgies. Exorcisms. Bludgeonings. As an unwitting party to all of the above (okay, she meant to beat the bejesus out of that bipolar vampire with a medieval mace), poor Tara Thornton has lived a life full of drama and sorrow. But in season four, True Blood's resident martyr looks like she may finally get a shot at happiness. Where's the fun in that? Vulture spoke with actress Rutina Wesley, a soft-spoken Juilliard grad with a soft spot for comic books, about her Emmy-reel, getting an action figure, and her future as Wonder Woman.

Would you agree that, out of the entire True Blood cast, you probably have the most clips for your Emmy reel?
Yeah, totally! It's like, "Well, let's see: being duct-taped to a toilet or tied to a bed." I never know what they're gonna do, you know? The one time I was really surprised was in season two when we had to do those scenes out in the woods. [Laughs.] We were like, "Wait. What are we doing? This is an orgy scene!" But it's True Blood. I've never questioned anything that they've given me.

Portia Bellefleur business card - Lancaster & Bellefleur Law Offices

Here is the business card that Portia gives Sookie at Merlotte's .

I find it interesting that HBO hasn't bought this URL - maybe someone ought to ???

Here is a little info on Sid Matt Lancaster , Portia's partner. We see him in almost every book. He is describes as "Sidney Matthew Lancaster, native son and a whiskey
sour drinker, had the reputation of being the most aggressive trial lawyer in the parish. I liked him because he always treated me with respect when I served him in the bar." and "Sid Matt Lancaster, an ancient and renowned lawyer"

At right --we see Sid Matt in True Blood Season 2 Ep 1 ( played by George Gerdes) when he comes to give Sookie money after Uncle Bartlette's death.

True Blood Episode 1 Season 4 : What do you know about the Renard Parish Sheriff Department?

Here is the Renard Parish Patch that Jason is wearing in Ep 1. It says 'Sheriff Renard Parish ' and has a star with I think  Phoenix in the middle ...hmm ..Phoenix and rising form the ashes or dead.. I looked back and it's always looked like this, guess i just never looked at it carefully.

Also in Ep 1 Andy talks about how Sookie being missing made the Parish loose the "Lousiana Safe Streets " plaque to Webster Parish. He says ...
"For thirteen straight months, I've had that open case on my books. If it weren't for you, this year's Louisiana Safe Streets plaque would be on my wall, and not fuckin' Webster Parish!"

FYI -Webster Parish is where the town of Minden is located and is 28 miles East of Shreveport. ( or a little west) of the fictional town of Bon Temps and Renard Parish.

Patrick played by Scott Foley (Terry’s platoon leader in Iraq) introduced for Season 5 True Blood

Showrunner Convinced True Blood Season Five Is A Shoe In
True Blood creator/showrunner Alan Ball is so convinced True Blood season five is a cert (season four has only just begun airing in the States) he’s been talking to TVLine about a character whose major plot arc won’t even happen until the 2012 season: Patrick (to be played by Scott Foley – left): “He was Terry’s platoon leader in Iraq,” says Ball. “So they share a military history.” Foley will debut in the season four finale and then recur throughout season five. But will Ball still be in charge then? “I’m negotiating,” he says, when asked if he’ll be continuing as shorwunner, but he’s adamant that whatever the outcome, there’ll be more True Blood. “There are no plans for this show to end. I’m pretty sure there will be at least one more season, if not more. It seems like it has a lot of life in it still.” With ratings of 5.2 million viewers for the deliciously bonkers season four opener (not quite, but nearly the highest ratings the show has ever achieved) he’s clearly right there.

True Blood Season 4: Critics Spot (HBO) video

True Blood Mythological Creatures: Faeries (HBO) video

Vampire Mythology -Sookie Stackhouse by Charlaine Harris

VAMPIRE MYTHOLOGY IN DEAD UNTIL DARK

AUTHOR/CREATOR:Charlaine Harris

YEAR CREATED:2001

NATIONALITY:American (specifically from the South in Northern Louisiana)

PHYSICAL TRAITS: Vampires resemble humans and look as they did when they were 'turned' from human to vampire. However, Caucasian vampires will be paler than they were in human form when 'turned'. Any temporary scarring or bruises had by humans when 'turned' will heal when they become vampires. Vampires do not age.

Vampires have a cooler body temperatures than humans and are cold to touch. Vampires incisors extend into fangs when they are angry, excited, aroused, need to fight or see blood. Apart from when going through these emotions or events, vampire fangs are retracted back into their incisors. Vampires do not need to breathe and do not have the need to fidget or itch. They can stand as still as a statue and remain expressionless. SUPERNATURAL ABILITIES: Healthy vampires are a good deal stronger and faster than humans with heightened reflexes, stamina and senses. As they get older, their strength, speed, reflexes and senses increase further. They can also heal quickly. Fresh vampire blood is also able to heal wounded humans as well as increase that person's strength, speed, reflexes, senses, stamina and physical appearance. Stale or less fresh vampire blood can be used a narcotic by humans and while it does everything that fresh vampire blood does, it can cause people to become high, mentally ill or cause humans to go into aggressive frenzies, attacking or sookie killing others or themselves

Vampires are also capable of learning a number of supernatural skills. The most common of these is the ability to glamor humans. Glamoring is a form of hypnosis that requires a vampire to make direct eye contact and use their voices to hypnotize a human into doing their bidding. Glamoring does not effect other vampires or other supernatural creatures. Some vampires are also able to shapeshift, levitate, fly or use telepathy as well as a number of other supernatural skills. SUSTENANCE/FEEDING: Vampires must sleep during the day, away from exposure to daylight. Only old vampires are able to rouse themselves during the day and even then they will be severely weakened. Vampires who try and remain awake during the day in a room unexposed to daylight will not only be weakened but will get the 'bleeds', this is where blood will slowly leak out of them, weakening them further. Vampires do not need to produce waste.

Vampires cannot eat normal food or drink normal drinks. They must drink the blood of humans, animals or synthetic blood. Human blood tastes best to vampires although they can sustain themselves on synthetic blood although it does not taste very good. Animal blood is also drank by some vampires although they are considered to be those of an unstable mental health. Vampires who do not drink blood will become so thirsty that they will go into complete frenzies, draining anyone they meet. They will not die from drinking blood, they will just become uncontrollable and sometimes mad. Vampires also become uncomfortable and begin to ache if they do not get blood. They become weaker also. Vampires find freshly deceased corpses and pure fairy blood irresistible and those with some fairy blood more appealing. Maenad blood is toxic to them. BECOMING A VAMPIRE: A vampire must drain a human of all their blood, effectively killing that human, and replace it with some of their own blood. The vampire and drained human will then sleep in the ground for two to three nights until the drained human rises as a vampire. The newborn vampire will be thirsty and need to feed on blood. The newborn vampire will have to stay with their 'maker' for some time as the 'maker' shows the newborn vampire or 'ward' how to live the life of a vampire. Although having some control, newborn vampires will often lose control of their impulses and can cause serious harm or trouble. Newborn vampires must leave their human lives behind as they are likely on impulse to attack their family or friends.

Newborn vampires must answer to their maker and are unable to resist if their maker commands them to do something. Eventually, makers will allow their wards to go out into the World themselves to be independent and free. Wards can return to their makers if they wish. VAMPIRE POLITICS: Since The Great Revelation (when vampires revealed themselves to humans), vampires have become involved in human politics in countries where they are accepted such as campaigning for vampire-human marriage.

Unknown to the majority of humans, vampires have their own political system. In the United States Of America, each of the States are split into kingdoms or queendoms, ruled by a king or queen or by both a king and queen. Each kingdom is split into areas (formerly called fiefdoms) ruled by sheriffs.

Great job by folks on the True Blood wiki ---check out all the other mythologies !

Older vampires are more powerful than younger vampires. Vampires run on a pecking

order with older vampires having a say over younger vampires. A younger vampire committing a crime against an older vampire is a major offence and would see that vampire punished by their sheriff, king or queen or vampire organisations such as the American Vampire League or the magister of the North American Vampire League. Vampires, regardless of age, must respect these authorities. INTERACTION WITH OTHER SUPERNATURAL BEINGS: Vampires dislike shapeshifters and werewolves but will join with them for common supernatural causes. Vampires find fairies irresistible because the smell of blood is so enticing. Fairies are in danger of being drained by vampires because of their irresistible. Vampires seem to be accepting of practioneer witches and Wiccans. HOW TO KILL A VAMPIRE: Vampires can be killed by wooden objects through the heart, decapitation and being burned to death by fire. A disease known as Sino-AIDS and severe use of silver can lead to silver poisoning which can kill them. VAMPIRE VULNERABILITIES: Silver is toxic to them and causes their skin to burn although it only causes them great pain but in most cases does not kill them. Garlic also disgusts them. Vampires are weakened by silver, staying awake in the day and starved of blood. They can also contract certain diseases such as Hepatitis D which will weaken them for a month. SOCIAL STATUS: Older vampires are more respected socially than younger vampires. However, most vampires live in harmony with each other and racism and homophobia are virtually non-existent in vampire society.

Since vampires 'came out of the coffin' with the invention of synthetic blood, they have tried to live amongst humans (this is known as mainstreaming). Vampires are tolerated in countries such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan and the majority of first World countries but are hunted in the majority of Islamic and South American countries. Even in countries where they are tolerated, there is still major bigotry towards vampires by humans with many being cautious or living in fear of them. INTERACTION WITH HUMANS: Some vampires try to "mainstream" and live among humans, while others attempt to live as they had before the Great Revelation. VAMPIRE BLOOD: When humans drink Vampire blood, they become more attractive to other humans and vampires and sexually potent. They also gain strength and more control over themselves. They also feel healthier and tend to be able to heal faster. Vampire blood is one of the most sought-after commodities on the black-market because of its potency (even though some humans have gone crazy after drinking it). The effects last depending on the amounts of blood that was ingested.

True Blood: Nick Cave & Neko Case Ditch Faeries For Zombies - Jef from Houston Press

true blood faerie world june27.jpgWe are soooo pleased to be getting the band back together and I will be talking to Jef Sunday night on Talk Blood.

Alan Ball was known for his masterful use of music in Six Feet Under. He's lost none of his touch when it comes to his current HBO series, True Blood - which happens to be set in the Louisiana swamps, not terribly far from Houston.
Expectation. That's the word of the day, gentle readers, of our not-so-gentle take on HBO's True Blood. Welcome to the fourth season of the last great vampire television show. They keep the emo to a minimum here. Our expectations were mixed coming into this season. On one hand, the fourth Sookie Stackhouse book is one of the best in the series, a truly new look at many of your favorite characters as well another great revelation in regards to the fae inhabiting the world along with humans, vampires, weres, shifters, and even the occasional demigod.

'True Blood' exec teases shower scene- listen here !

Alan Ball has dropped some hints about an upcoming shower scene on the show.
In the Charlaine Harris novels upon which the series is based, Sookie and Eric have a sex scene in the bathroom.

Ball has now teased that the couple, played by Anna Paquin and Alexander Skarsgård, will have a similar moment in the fourth season."There is a shower scene," he told TV Line. "But it is not a direct re-enactment of the shower scene in the book. It goes to a slightly different place."

However, Ball added: "Sookie and Eric are in the shower together. Everybody who's been waiting for Sookie and Eric to hook up, this will be a very good season for them."

A la Carte: A 'True Blood' brunch- recipes !

Louisiana vampires, werewolves and a certain telepathic waitress returned to the small screen this week as HBO launched a new season of its hit vampire series, "True Blood." Of course, vampire parties tend to focus on the, er, liquid refreshment, but staffers at Epicurious.com think humans may prefer to celebrate the return of their favorite series with a menu that does not involve the letters AB or O. And this "True Blood" party plan calls for zydeco music, fangtastic decor and a Cajun brunch because, as they say, "If you're going to hang with the vampires of northern Louisiana's Area 5, you'll be getting up at dusk. So why not have breakfast for dinner?"The menu includes Bloody Mary Soup Shots with Shrimp, Homemade Sausage Patties, Creole-Style Oven Hash Browns and an Eggs Benedict Bread Pudding, inspired by a certain ill-fated beau. Download recipes, soundtrack suggestions and more at http://www.epicurious.com/articlesguides/entertaining/partiesevents/tv-dinners-true-blood-menu . Meanwhile, here's just a taste:

Bloody Mary Soup Shots with Shrimp
32 peeled deveined cooked medium shrimp
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, divided
Pickled vegetables
28-ounce can San Marzano tomatoes in juice
2 green onions, chopped
1/2 cup chicken broth
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons vodka
1 tablespoon prepared horseradish
1/2 teaspoon celery salt

1. Toss shrimp with 1 tablespoon lemon juice in large bowl. Thread shrimp and pickled vegetables on toothpicks to make soup garnishes. Chill.
2. Puree tomato juice with 1 tablespoon lemon juice and remaining ingredients. Adjust seasoning. Chill.
3. When ready to serve, pour soup mixture into shot glasses. Garnish with shrimp.

Ask Ausiello: Spoilers on True Blood

Question: I have to know — will this season of True Blood have the smokin’ hot Sookie/Eric shower scene featured in the book? Please say yes! —Sam
Ausiello:
Yes and No. “There is a shower scene,” explains exec producer Alan Ball. “But it is not a direct re-enactment of the shower scene in the book. It goes to a slightly different place.” Emphasis on slightly. “Sookie and Eric are in the shower together,” confirms Ball, who assures me that, “Everybody who’s been waiting for Sookie and Eric to hook up, this will be a very good season for them.”

Question: Any more details on Scott Foley’s True Blood role? —Anna
Ausiello:
“He was Terry’s platoon leader in Iraq,” says Ball of Foley’s character, Patrick. “So they [share] a military history.” (Rumor has it Terry saved Patrick’s life not once but twice.) Foley will debut in the Season 4 finale and then recur throughout Season 5. Ball, meanwhile, confirms that a deal is not yet in place for him to return as showrunner for a fifth season. “I’m negotiating,” he says. Of course, HBO hasn’t renewed the show itself — but Ball isn’t worried. “There are no plans for this show to end,” he assures. “I’m pretty sure there will be at least one more season, if not more. It seems like it has a lot of life in it still.” That’s an understatement given the boffo ratings for Sunday’s premiere.

Question: In a recent Ask Ausiello, you said that there was a very subtle clue for “one of the biggest (literally and figuratively) twists in True Blood‘s history” in the linked trailer. Now that we’ve seen the premiere — and know the twist in question was the yearlong time jump — you have to reveal what the clue was! Was it that Eric said “for the past year” at the beginning of the trailer? —Nancy
Ausiello:
Nope. The clue was Tara declaring, “It’s been a while since I got attacked by a vampire, and guess what — it still sucks.” Had the show stuck with tradition — i.e. no time jump between seasons — it would’ve only been a few days since Tara’s deadly run-in with psycho vamp Franklin Mott.

The return of HBO's True Blood proved its worth in the ratings.

The return of HBO's True Blood proved its worth in the ratings.
Sunday's Season 4 premiere matched the supernatural series' series high in the ratings, drawing 5.4 million viewers at 9 p.m. Compared to last year's season launch, which lured 5.1 million, True Blood improved 6 percent.

‘True Blood’s’ Alan Ball Answers the Season Four Premiere’s Burning Questions

Excellent interview !

Fairies lobbing bombs. Dead parrots coming back to life. A doll-decapitating baby. Judging by all the strange things happening in the Season Four premiere of HBO’s “True Blood,” life is back to perfectly (ab)normal in Bon Temps, Louisiana. Where it appears there really is no such thing as a good day for anyone. “Everyone gets an episode to be happy,” jokes executive producer Alan Ball, “but then you have to mess it up because otherwise, it gets boring.”

That’s one word that can’t be used to describe the premiere episode, which brought up plenty of burning questions for fans of the series. XfinityTV asked Ball to deal with some of the more perplexing queries based on what we’ve seen of Season Four so far. Here’s what he had to say.

The first six minutes of the Season Four premiere felt like some summer action blockbuster. Why did you come up with something that big?
It was huge. We did a lot of research about all different kinds of fairies, alien abductions, relativity…..From the time we started writing to the time that episode was locked, it was about four months. What we wanted to do was just jump ahead in time, shake things up and start fresh. The second and third seasons started directly after the season prior. So we wanted to get people to a different place.

And that place is a year later….why leap to that spot in time?
We could pick up this world and shake it like a snow globe. We could make everything different and there’s no real downside. You can make Jason a cop. Andy can be full-out addicted to V. Tara is fully ensconced in her new life. Terry and Arlene are married and the baby is born.

Your fairies seemed more like guerilla fighters. Will they be back?
That’s not the last we’ve seen of them. Time for fairies is different so it takes them a while to react. Our show has 12 episodes, and for them that’s like a minute. They will react (to Sookie’s escape) eventually.

Is there any significance to the watch that Sookie passed along to Jason from their grandfather?
The watch is basically to prove to Jason that she was there with her grandfather in the land of the fairies. The watch has no powers although maybe…now that I’ve got that thought in my head….

'True Blood' Recap: Let's Do the Time Warp

Nice recap from Rolling Stone

Sookie Stackhouse, Eric Northman, Bill Compton and the rest of the supernatural crew fast forward for season four's premiere

"She's Not There," the first episode of True Blood's fourth season, thrusts us right into the mayhem and supernatural madness we were trying to figure out when last season came to an end. We begin with Sookie Stackhouse crossing over into faerie land, and get adequately briefed on the ins and outs of faeries, witches, werepanthers and shape-shifters — but it's the vampire storyline that remains most compelling (Spoiler Alert: Bill Compton and Eric Northman's power switch has a lot to do with it). Though this season, like its predecessors, closely follows the same numbered volume of Charlaine Harris' best-selling Sookie Stackhouse novels, the series runs the risk of confusion over camp with the ever-increasing number of characters it introduces. Here, the first of our weekly species-by-species recaps of True Blood, season four:

Method Shapeshifting with Marshall Allman

Marshall takes his animal transformations really, really seriously. ( NOT FOR WORK OR KIDS!)-hahahahah
If I could shapeshift, I'd become a fly on the wall of the "True Blood" set so I could see how things are done. But thanks to Funny Or Die, fans are getting a behind-the-scenes look at the HBO series.
In the hilarious video "Method Shifting," Trubie newbie Janina Gavankar, who plays a new shifter and romantic interest for Sam (Sam Trammell), does her first scene with Marshall Allman, aka Sam's shifter brother, Tommy.

Charlaine Harris: Energised by the supernatural

Stephen Jewell talks to American author Charlaine Harris about why readers must not confuse her True Blood novels with the television series.
Charlaine Harris is happy with the way True Blood's creators have expanded her storylines to involve other character viewpoints.

For a series rooted in the small Louisiana town of Bon Temps, it's ironic that True Blood's core cast hails from New Zealand, Australia and England. But no one is more impressed with the accents of Wellingtonian Anna Paquin, Ryan Kwanten from Sydney, and Essex-raised Stephen Moyer, who play Sookie Stackhouse, her brother Jason and vampire lover Bill Compton, than Charlaine Harris, the American author of the novels on which the popular series is based.
"I was born and bred in the south, so it took me a while to acclimatise myself but they've all done a trememendous job," laughs Harris, who lives in Arkansas. "I just can't imagine that part of acting. I couldn't do it myself. It's crazy, isn't it? But I get to see them from time to time and they're all such fun to hang around with."

'True Blood' Bar Fangtasia: True To Life?

Eric Northman's flashy, provocatively named vampire bar, Fangtasia, is the perfect antidote for Bon Temps' teaming population of bloodsuckers bored up with staid Merlotte's. It's a place where "True Blood"'s vamps and humans can delight in a little mutual admiration over a cold (or warm!) beverage, and it got plenty of play on last night's season four premiere, "She's Not There," in which Eric taped a PSA encouraging dubious humans to stop by for dinner (with the promise that they wouldn't be the main course).

New eBook : UNDEAD. The Birth of Dracula

Frank Delaney Deconstructs the Myth of the Modern Vampire in His First Kindle Single, UNDEAD. The Birth of Dracula ( 99 cents)

In his first Amazon Kindle Single, UNDEAD, Irish author, broadcaster and literary historian, Frank Delaney, reveals the relationship between blood, sex and everlasting life, and revisits the 19th century birth of Dracula at the hands of his countryman, Bram Stoker. Released on Friday, June 24, by Saturday at midnight it had shot to #1 on the Kindle Single bestseller list, knocking David Baldacci off the top spot.
Poised to meet the timing and interest of HBO's thirsty True Blood fans, Delaney acknowledges the quality of the writing and production values in the ground-breaking Alan Ball series, and uses it to guide his full-bodied literary foray into all things vampire.
From his eye-witness account of a castle that inspired Stoker, to his re-telling of myths from the Bible, to the gothic Victorians, to the modern screen, Delaney weaves a visceral and compelling thesis, contending that the vampire story has been a part of the human narrative from the time stories were first shared.

Merlotte's Bisquits recipe made by Lafayette

Here is the delicious recipe for the bisquits Lafayette is making and that Tommy and Maxine Fortenberry orders
Ingredients

* 2 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
* 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
* 2 tablespoons butter, cold
* 1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening, cold
* 1 cup milk

Directions

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and salt. Mix well. Add 1 tablespoon of the cold butter and the cold shortening and work it into the dry ingredients, using your hands, until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the milk. The dough will be sticky. Dust your work surface with some flour. Turn the dough onto the floured surface. Gently fold each side toward the center. Pick up the dough and dust the work surface with additional flour. Return the dough to the floured surface and fold each side towards the center again. Turn the dough over and press it out to 1-inch thickness. Cut the biscuits, straight down, do not twist the cutter, with a 2 1/4-inch round cookie cutter. Melt the remaining tablespoon of butter and add to a 10-inch round cake pan. Place the biscuits in the pan, turning once (to coat both sides with butter), about 1/4-inch apart. Let the biscuits rest for 15 minutes before baking. Bake until golden brown, about 15 minutes.

True Blood’s season premiere sneaks up on you from behind

True Blood is back! The first episode of the season started with a bang that rocketed us all to Faerieville. But don't worry, it had us back in time to be sexually assaulted by Eric.
Now, let's break down this episode the best way possible. With the True Blood Pro/Con list.
Pro: Sookie is in faerie land with her protector or Faerie Godmother, and old Sooks has an earful for her. "If your job is to look after me, can I just say you suck?" Yes. Yes you can, Sookie. Not that we would expect anything less from you. Enter a new realm and immediately become a total dickhead and insult this new magical band of people right off the bat. But she is 100% right here. Claudine is the worst Faerie Godmother in the history of Faerie Godmothers. Where was Claudine with the lecture about preventative measure one can take to protect themselves from vampire dirt sex UTIs? Nowhere, that's where.

True Blood: Season 4 "Weeks Ahead" Trailer

Charlaine Harris writes on her blog about attending the True Blood premier and party last week in LA

As you know, bffPaula and I went out to Los Angeles last week to attend the premiere of "True Blood" Season Four. (Oddly, we stayed at the Four Seasons.)
Before the big night, we had a great dinner with writer Kam Miller and an equally fun breakfast with our very own web maven, Dawn Fratini. I also had a couple of business meetings with my west coast agents and another company. By the afternoon of the premiere, we were getting our hair and makeup done by the amazing Shellena Gonzalez. She did us proud. I had finally found the right outfit, and of course Paula always looks good.
Attending with me this year were my agent, Joshua Bilmes, and Del Howison, proprietor of Dark Delicacies in Burbank, the only horror bookstore in America. (I've signed at Dark Delicacies before.)

Lafayette's Gumbo Recipe from True Blood Food Stylist

Last night Lafayette said to Sookie " I'm gonna get my hug in before my gumbo burn." This is what he had cooking:

Lafayette's Louisiana Gumbo

2 lbs chicken
2 lbs breakfast sausage (Hot)
3 lbs shrimp (peeled and deveined)
1 lb craw fish tail (peeled)
1 lb okra
8 ounces clam juice
4 bell peppers
2 chili peppers (Cayenne)
3 tablespoons ground sage
3 tablespoons chicken boulien
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon gumbo file
1/2 cup flour

DirectionsIn a large (I mean large) stockpot boil chicken (completely covered by 2 inches of water), chopped okra, sage, bouillon, oregano, black pepper until chicken is done. Remove chicken and set aside to cool, leave the stock in the pot. When cool debone the chicken and shred the meat. Set aside for now.
Crumble sausage and fry in a skillet. Remove sausage and set aside. Reserve 1/2 cup of the drippings. Add flour and make a very dark roux (dark brown). Add the sausage and roux to the chicken broth and let simmer 10 minutes.
Chop bell peppers and cayennes at this time. Add to pot and let simmer 10 minutes.
Add shrimp, clam juice, crawfish tails to the pot and let simmer 15 minutes.
Add the chicken and gumbo file to the pot and bring to a boil.
I like to let this gumbo rest for a few hours and then reheat it before serving. Serve over rice with crackers and Louisiana hot sauce.
This gumbo only gets better the next day. It freezes well to make a quick simple meal anytime.

True Blood Recap: It’s Sookie O’Clock

The interminable wait is over and the lovable scamps of Bon Temps are back. After a third season full of werewolves, Nazis, and the fabulous Vampire King of Mississippi, True Blood is ready to hit us with the good stuff. Witches! A self-empowered Sookie! Bill and Eric making nice with humans! Hoyt and Jessica, shacking up! Tara's a lesbian named Toni, from Atlanta? A-Ball, you have our interest. Let's do this.
Don't Eat the Light Fruit
In Fairyland, where Sookie popped to in the season finale, every hour is magic hour and everyone's always happy and eating big, glowy peaches that look like they came from Ikea. It’s full of familiar faces. Look, there's Barry, the telepathic bellboy, accompanied by his fairy godfather, who appears to be wearing a macramé blouse. Who’s that, taking a big bite out of a light fruit? It's Sooks's twenty-years-gone Grandaddy — a pleasant surprise.

First Bite: “True Blood” 4.1: She’s Not There by Camp Blood

Again-- I am thrilled that the amazing Andy and Brian will be co hosting Talk Blood with me again this year !

Ah, True Blood. Though we’ve been apart for a while, when you sink your teeth into my smooth, swan-like neck it’s almost like you were never gone.
Andy and I are working on our full Blood Work! video recap of the premiere ep – which promises lots of fun surprises! – but in the meantime let’s chew on some of last night’s big moments, shall we?

  • Queen Mab, harder and more often. Seriously, PLEASE let this woman be back every week – her performance was everything that television has been missing since they canceled The Charmings.
  • Tara is taking a swim in Lake Lesbian, and I LOVE IT. I do miss her short hair, though.
  • Mama Maxine and Li’l Mickens? How the heck did that one happen?
  • Sam‘s My Little Pony dinner club? HILARIOUS.
  • Marnie may be the first supervillain in history to be introduced on a bean-bag chair.
  • Poor Peepaw Earl - we hardly knew ye!

'True Blood' Returns; Let's Run Down The Gaudiest Moments by Mark Blankenship

I am thrilled that Mark will be returning this year as co-host for Talk Blood which returns next Sunday night at 9:30 pm ! Mark's new home this season is the NPR Monkey See Blog and he welcomes your comments !

Critic Mark Blankenship has been writing about True Blood for quite some time, and in honor of the show's return, we've invited him to share his first Sucker Punch recap of the season here at Monkey See. You can find more of Mark's writing (including past Sucker Punches) already archived. Please be advised that this is an episode recap. That means that it will talk about what happened on the show, so "contains spoilers" should be obvious.

Welcome to Sucker Punch, the only blog post that finds the gaudiest moments on an episode of True Blood.

Before we dive into the Season 4 premiere, let me welcome the first-time readers of Sucker Punch, which is partly a recap of each episode and partly a hunt for the most outre moments in the series.

Season 4 message from Alan Ball ( video)

Stephen Moyer Got Bitten by the Acting Bug Young

Stephen Moyer
You don't expect the genteel vampire Bill Compton to roll into dinner on a neon green longboard on wheels, but that's what Stephen Moyer, the actor who plays him, did when Back Stage met him near his Venice, Calif., home. "I go everywhere with this," the British actor says about his eco-friendly mode of transportation. The down-to-earth Moyer, it turns out, is full of surprises, as is the case with his HBO series, which kicks off its fourth season this weekend. As the song "I'm on Fire" coincidentally played overhead (Bill is highly combustible in daylight), Moyer revealed to Back Stage his real-life story, which has more parallels to Billy Elliot than to Bill Compton.

Moyer landed his delicious "True Blood" gig thanks to being unceremoniously dumped from another L.A. pilot he was hired on but never got to shoot. "We did the table read, and I'd been offered the part, and me and a bunch of other actors from that show got let go at the table read. It was incredibly depressing," confesses Moyer, who flew back to his London home defeated and vowed not return to pilot season, at least for that year. The casting directors of that pilot, however, had something else in mind.

Can witches beat vampires? The new season of ‘True Blood’ gets bewitched

TV witches: The funny, the spooky and the uglySomething wicked this way comes with the fourth season of “True Blood,” which premiered on HBO last night. In the season opener, she ventured from Bon Temps to meet her, um, fairy godmother, and it looks like she may be pursuing a romance with Eric, according to costar Stephen Moyer. (Watch a preview above.)
But an equally intriguing storyline has Lafayette flirting with his witch-like characteristics. Season 4, based loosely on Charlaine Harris’ soapy novel “Dead to the World,” brings more witches into the mix, and Sunday's premiere had Lafayette being persuaded by hunky boyfriend Jesus (Kevin Alejandro) to join a coven.
The Cheat Sheet: 'True Blood' Season 4
“I’d say the witches certainly pose the greatest threat to the vampires that we’ve seen yet,” executive producer Alexander Woo told the Hollywood Reporter.

Recaps of Episode 1 and 2 recaps from EW

Back for good (or evil)

Sookie returns from the fairy realm and learns life has moved on without her

The wait is over, and after all the footage HBO showed us in promos, including the first eight minutes of the season 4 premiere, we still got a few surprises: The biggest and best being that Sookie had been in the fairy realm -- a façade of silk, chiffon, and lace (like pastel week on Dancing With the Stars when every couple is doing the rumba) -- for a year and two weeks. Much has changed.
Like America in every global disaster movie, Sookie was apparently the only one smart enough to figure out that the near-orgasmic “light fruit” being served in the fairy plane was a trap. She tried to warn Barry the Bellboy from season 2, another recent arrival, but he bit into the forbidden fruit before she could stop him. I hope he will be very happy with his fairy godmother Lloyd. I know I would be.

'True Blood' recap: The ties that bind

It sucks to be a Stackhouse right about now

Note: Because the July 3 episode of True Blood is available to HBO GO subscribers now, we are publishing our recap of the episode early.
This is the episode fans of Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse novels -- and Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) acting human in True Blood's second season -- have been waiting for: amnesia has struck. But before we start fantasizing that Alan Ball will incorporate a certain shower scene from Harris' Dead to the World into his tale (or was Eric walking in on Sookie post-shower in the season premiere the only homage we'll get?), let's analyze the reality of our situation.

True Blood: Big Changes for Sookie and Her Supernatural Friends

As evidenced by True Blood's season 4 premiere Sunday night, a lot has changed since fans last saw Sookie Stackhouse and the residents of Bon Temps.

Sookie begins the episode in a glowing Eden-like fairyland that exists on an alternate plane and its own timeframe. There she meets her fairy godmother, Claudine – and runs into her grandfather, whom she hasn't seen in 20 years (though he thought it was only the day before). The idyllic scene quickly turns sinister when an evil fairy chases Sookie, who narrowly escapes back into her own,

The lusty vampires of Bon Temps bite again

Doll-eyed, Brooklyn-born beauty Deborah Ann Woll may be in her fourth year as newbie vampire Jessica on HBO’s wildly popular series “True Blood,” but the role doesn’t necessarily fit like a comfy pair of shoes.
“It’s been intense,” the 26-year-old Woll said recently about playing Jessica this season. “It’s asked me to try things I haven’t really done before, emotionally, physically and psychologically. It’s been really challenging, but great in that way.”
In its quest to show how supernatural powers wreak havoc on human nature, “True Blood” is nothing if not unpredictable. The show already has a dizzying repertory company of vampires, telepaths, shapeshifters, fairies and a werewolf. In this melange, Bible-thumping teenager Jessica’s transformation from Bill’s (Stephen Moyer) petulant vampire ward into a swoony yet feral bloodsucker has been one of the show’s more enjoyable character arcs.

(Clockwise from top) “True Blood” stars Alexander Skarsgard, Deborah Ann Woll, Jessica Tuck, Stephen Moyer and Kristin Bauer van Straten.
“Originally the role developed because we thought, since Bill is a reluctant vampire, it would be fun to have him turn somebody who becomes a bratty stepchild,” says creator/executive producer Alan Ball. “But very quickly it became clear to us all that Jessica’s really special. Then to bring her and Hoyt together was magical, and she’s turned into one of the main characters on the show now. Her presence is so powerful and vital.”

The Sunday Conversation: Sam Trammell

The HBO vampire drama 'True Blood' is embarking on Season 4, in which the actor's character, Sam Merlotte, meets a fellow shape-shifter of considerable allure."True Blood's" fourth season opens Sunday night with Sam Trammell returning to HBO's racy vampire drama as Sam Merlotte, a cafe owner and shape-shifter who can turn into any animal he likes and back again. Offstage, Trammell, 40, is also preparing for his debut as the father of twins with his longtime girlfriend, actress Missy Yager.

Tell me about Sam Merlotte's adventures in the new season. I understand you have a new love interest.

True Blood: 10 Fangbangin' Facts About Season 4

What's in store for Sookie, Bill and Eric this summer? Why witches, fairies, panthers and politics of course.

Spoiler Alert, True Bloodievers! If you don't want to know any hints about all the "something wickeds" that this way come for Season 4, it's time to back browser.
This Sunday, Season 4 of HBO's True Blood kicks off and IGN's here to give you a primer on the summer's new episodes. Now, let's face it: this show is divisive. You're kind of either "in," or "out." And with two disappointing season finales in a row, the Bon Temp ball's pretty much in Sookie's court to try and win back some of the support this show's lost over the past year.

But for book fans, this season, based loosely on Charlaine Harris' fourth Southern Vampire Mystery book Dead to the World, is what legions of ladies have been waiting for. So we're always ready to give a show a second chance. And a third. I mean, despite Season 3's lack of payoff, it did set up a few interesting things for this year; the big one being Sookie and Bill being over and done with. So let's take a look at 10 "fangtastic" (can I even use that word in this context?) things to look for this season. Yes, 10 reasons to check out all the undead hunks, southern spitfires, Cajun wolves, meth-addict panthers and magical fairies of Season 4!
