True Blood inside their secret wedding

MTV figures out that "From 'Twilight' to 'True Blood:' Vamps Have Made Hollywood $7 Billion"

If you were worried this fangtastic vampire fad was going to meet an eternal death soon, well, that doesn't seem likely, according to a report done by The Hollywood Reporter (and anyone hoping to make money in Tinseltown right now). According to THR's calculations, the vampire phenomenon has generated over $7 billion since "Twilight" first hit theaters in 2008. That is less than two years.
What has helped make vampires so successful is not just the love affair between Edward and Bella, though that's definitely part of it. Stephenie Meyer made vampires more romantic and less scary and made millions because of it. That started a trend that moved from books to films to television, selling music and merchandise along the way, and has paid off wonderfully for all of those involved. And the world just seems to be begging for more, more, more.
Don't believe us? Click after the jump to see the breakdown of how much money vampires have made across these different media.

Sex please, we're vampires

''ALL anyone's thinking about here is sex, sex, sex!'' bemoans mind reader Sookie Stackhouse, the hyper-sexualised protagonist of True Blood. ''Well you don't need to be telepathic to pick up on that,'' quips her 170-year-old vampire lover, Bill.
A glorious marriage of best-selling fantasy writer Charlaine Harris and screen genius Alan Ball (Six Feet Under, American Beauty), the series is the much-lauded crown jewel of HBO's post-Sex-and-Sopranos era.

Alexander Skarsgard, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer on the cover of Rolling Stone.
Though Twilight taught us the virtue, danger and angst of a wistful human-vampire affair, what is remarkably clever about True Blood is its deftly blended cocktail of old-world romance, lustful deviance and wickedly dry humour. In the claustrophobic southern township of Bon Temps, danger, desire and the macabre are all intertwined.

Entertainment biz fangful for vampires

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Hollywood has repeatedly peddled the apocalyptic threat from aliens, machines, comets, viruses and zombies, but who was watching the vampires?

Never exactly absent from the entertainment scene, those eternal bloodsuckers lately have infiltrated everything from big screens and little screens to bookstore shelves, clothing racks, download services, video games and video, record and jewelry stores.

The low-budget Fox/New Regency "Twilight" parody "Vampires Suck" has grossed $20 million in its first six days, and 5 million regular viewers are rabidly following HBO's newest hit, "True Blood," as it swoops toward its season 3 finale September 12. Meanwhile, Justin Cronin's "The Passage," Stephenie Meyer's "Breaking Dawn" and Charlaine Harris' "Dead and Gone" hover on best-seller lists.

Vampire king spills 'True Blood' finale secrets

He's already getting Emmy buzz for his jaw-droppingly good turn as "True Blood's" new "Big Bad" Russell Edgington — the 3,000-year-old vampire king whose hobbies include fine dining, ripping out spines and vowing to eat your babies.
And now, just to make us love him more, Denis O'Hare is spilling deets on "True Blood's" season finale (hint: he'll "weep"!) and the secret you don't know about that scandalous Rolling Stone cover...

True Blood: where wages are paid in dirty vampire basement sex meredith Woerner io9

Meredith's offering ...
Everyone is talking about last night's big reveal. So what happened? Well the supernatural fairy was let out of the werekitty bag. We now all know what Sookie is (besides awful).

Let's be honest. Nothing was going to top last week's conclusion. Nothing. But this week tried with werekitties, V-trips, and lots of good Pam one-liners. But besides the great postmortem, this episode really felt like it was just trying to get us to the end. We're all still holding our breath for the big fight between the King of Mississippi and everyone else. But one thing was revealed, Sookie is a fairy. Yeah, I'm not necessarily excited about it either. But why don't we let the Pros and Cons be the REAL judge.

Pro: Sookie having the same reaction to her big "what is Sookie" reveal. How fucking lame, indeed.

Con: So since we all CLEARLY know that being a fairy is lame, does that mean we can drop the fact that she's a fairy? The answer: No.

Con: Another name for the fairy kind is "alien." Sadly, I'm guessing the rest of the cast will insist on calling fairies by their proper name "the Fae," for the rest of the season.

Con: They do.

Soldiers Zombie Hunting in Afghanistan

A peek inside any airport bookstore will tell you that Americans want to read about vampires this summer. Vampire love stories, vampire hunting manuals, vampire comedies, classic novels rewritten to include vampires -- apparently anything sporting fangs and makeup will sell.
As usual, the military is developing a similar obsession, but not vampires. With the Army, it's zombies.

Dog-eared copies of Max Brooks' "World War Z" a first person account of the Great Zombie War, and his definitive undead-fighting manual, "The Zombie Survival Guide," are found wherever soldiers relax and oil their weapons. One soldier showed me a huge, razor-sharp Nepalese Ghurka knife that weighed about seven pounds -- a lot of extra weight to carry on patrol. He explained that because killing zombies required a decapitating or skull-crushing blow, there was simply no better tool for fighting the undead in close quarters.
As uniforms and body armor become more and more covered in Velcro, Zombie Hunter patches have become hot sellers for tactical suppliers. At the German Post Exchange at Kandahar Airfield, that patch is continually sold out.

E online with Kristin

** obviously Emily in Toronto doesn't read my blog full True Blood time lines here

Jessica: True Blood! How great was last night's episode?
So great I'm honestly broken up that there are only two episodes left! I just interviewed the completely amazing Denis O'Hare (Russell Edgington, the big bad vampire king) and he told me that the season finale was his most challenging work yet (gulp!), and that "Sookie is very mean to me…Eric is very mean to me…and I cry tears of joy." I am a little alarmed by that last tease! What on Earth could make Russell so happy? Talbot somehow coming back from the crystal urn? A double rainbow? An all-you-can-eat baby buffet?
Karen in Illinois: Are you going to retract your statement about the werewolf gang rape [on True Blood]? That never happened.
Sorry! My very bad bad. And proof that apparently I am the one with the truly sick mind. I personally thought the werewolf initiation scene to be something of a gang-rape scene, hence my mention on E! News of it…I don't know, perhaps it was open to interpretation, or I'm in need of serious medication? (Don't answer that.) Regardless: I went back and you're right: No actual rape was ever shown. My apologies for my apparently overactive imagination and please know, True Blood remains one of my all-time favorite shows. That is an indisputable fact.
Emily in Toronto, Ontario: Hi Kristin! I have a question about True Blood and I'm really hoping you can help me out. How is Arlene pregnant with Rene? Does this mean that everything that has happened over the past almost two seasons has been over the course of merely weeks? It just doesn't add up to me. Thank you!
It's a reminder that each season of True Blood covers very little time…Only a few weeks! Arlene is only about 7-8 weeks pregnant, so really, very little time has passed since Rene's death in season one. All I know is a lot happens in Bon Temps and I don't want to live there. Well, OK, fine, unless you're going to shack (shackle?) me up with Eric

True Blood 3.11 Preview "Fresh Blood"

True Blood: True Blood: Post Mortem - Season 3 Episode #10 (HBO)

Did True Blood Weigh In On The “Ground Zero Mosque” Debate?

Yes, I think they did !

When vampire-related HBO campy drama True Blood initially premiered in September 2008, the lead-up publicity campaign included the cable news-like fodder of vampire vs. human politics. But after the first few episodes of season one, the political plotlines had almost disappeared.
That has changed in the past few episodes of season three, including last night when it sounds like the show dipped a toe in the “Ground Zero Mosque” controversy.
Well, maybe not the Islamic Center controversy du jour specifically, but the vampires as Muslims connection was clear last night. In the previous episode, vampire leader Russell Edgington had gone off the rails, and in a disturbing, gruesome and admittedly funny scene he murders a news anchor live on air. Now he’s on the run, and Nan Flanagan, spokesperson of the American Vampire League, is on TV to discuss the ramifications.
The news anchor who interviews Flanagan describes Edgington as a “vampire terrorist,” and Flanagan doesn’t move away from that designation. “I do not deny that this was a heinous act of a mad man,” said Flanagan. “Russell Edgington is an extremist and a terrorist. But that’s not because he is a vampire. It’s because he’s an extremist and a terrorist.”
