'True Blood': The Casting News Continues For Season 3 With More Vampires, Shapeshifters And Parents

MTV has a run down of recent casting

Casting has already begun for the third season of "True Blood" (there's no better time than with two Golden Globe noms!), and so far the new cast is a healthy mixture of vampire, werewolf, shape-shifter and other various forms of sexy supernaturalism.

The latest round of casting announcements is no different, as "True Blood" has just recruited a new vampire and a new shape-shifter into the fold. It also looks as if everybody's favorite trash-talking bartender, Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis), will be getting a visit from his mother this season.

'True Blood's' Anna Paquin 'flattered' by double Golden Globe nominations

From the LA Times

The vampire craze continues.

“True Blood” star Anna Paquin received two separate Golden Globe nominations this year — a feat shared by Meryl Streep, Sandra Bullock and Matt Damon.

Sookie Stackhouse — the telepathic waitress Paquin plays in the HBO drama “True Blood” — probably knew the whole time. But Paquin -- who received a nod for her role as Sookie (for which she won the same award earlier this year) as well as a part in the made-for-TV movie “The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler” — got word from her publicist … and she wasn’t exactly standing by for an alert.

“It was 5 in the morning. I was in bed,” Paquin quipped. "It was all very surprising."

And the Kiwi actress definitely didn’t spread the word once she heard.

“It’s not considered nice to wake people up at 6 in the morning. No one likes that. Weird, huh? But I e-mailed my family.”

Alcide is cast and it's Joe Manganiello

True Blood fans, it’s the casting news you’ve been waiting for…

Joe Manganiello, best known for playing barkeep Owen on One Tree Hill and Marshall’s law school chum Brad on How I Met Your Mother, has landed season 3’s most important new role: Sookie’s werewolf crush, Alcide Herveaux.

If Alan Ball follows Charlaine Harris’ books, Eric will summon Alcide — described in casting breakdowns as good-looking, rough-around-the-edges, articulate, heroic, and decent — to assist Sookie in her search for Bill.

Still to be cast: Alcide’s on-again, off-again psycho girlfriend Debbie Pelt.

Does that choice make you want to howl at the moon ?

Ausiello reports Meet Eric's new plaything

True Blood is giving Eric a new toy.

Actress-model Natasha Alam (The Bold and the Beautiful) is joining the season 3 cast in the potentially recurring role of Yvetta, Eric’s new dancer at Fangtasia, sources confirm to me exclusively.

Eric engages in a sexual relationship with his newest employee, which, if I’m not mistaken, is a flagrant violation of Fangtasia’s super-strict sexual harassment policy. (I made a funny.)

Alfre Woodard cast as Lafayette's Mom on '"True Blood"

( and she's from Tulsa, OK -so no cracks about not getting the accent right )

The Emmy-winning actress will guest-star on the HBO vampire drama "True Blood" as the mother of Lafayette Reynolds (Nelsan Ellis), the cook at Merlotte's who got busted for selling vampire blood and held captive and tortured by Eric (Alexander Skarsgard). Since Lafayette and Tara (Rutina Wesley) are cousins, it means that Sookie's best friend would be getting a visit from her aunt.

Woodard recently joined TNT's dramedy pilot "Delta Blues" in a co-starring role opposite Jason Lee.

True Blood Scoop from TV Guide

The cast of HBO’s vampiric sensation True Blood has only been back to work on their third season for a few days, but Rutina Wesley and Alexander Skarsgard say they’re already sinking their teeth into some bloody interesting storylines.

“There's more of people with different agendas,” Skarsgard – who had a breakout season as his not-always-bad boy vampire Eric emerged as a contender for Sookie Stackhouse’s heart and soul – told TVGuideMagazine.com. “Sam's got his stuff to deal with, his background and who he is, trying to figure that out. There might be some more tension between the vampire kingdoms and queendoms and they might introduce other creatures than just vampires.”

“There's a lot of new characters that will be introduced,” confirms Wesley. “We've got some werewolves that are coming in. Everyone is back now, so it'll be interesting to see how Tara deals with everything that happens with the last season. She's got a lot grieving she has to do, but I have a feeling that someone's going to come in and sweep her off of her feet. Then we've got Sookie there to help her out as well. They're making a lot of people the focus. That's the one thing that I love about being on the show – that it's truly an ensemble. All of us have really good and meaty stuff to work on.”
