'Mine' the title song for True Blood Season One Episode Three

I recently did a Season 2 Spoiler show for my Blogtalk radio show, where we looked at what we might know about the upcoming episode by examining the title song for that episode.

I can't tell you how many emails I received from folks saying they felt so stupid for not realizing that the True Blood episodes were named for songs. It's OK but I thought it might be a good idea to look back at the song, the artist and the lyrics for each of last season's episode title songs.

So let's look back to Episode Three: Season One: Mine aired : 9/21/2008

Song: Mine
Artist: Bing Crosby & Judy Garland
Album: Bing - His Legendary Years 1931-1957
Scene: Sookie sneaks up on Bill and they kiss passionately ( dream sequence)

After nine titles from 1931 (which were acquired by Decca later on), the program concentrates on the 1934-1957 period and, in addition to the expected hits, all aspects of his career are covered. Despite a few Dixieland-flavored selections, Crosby had largely abandoned jazz by the late '30s, but his phrasing (which was influenced by Louis Armstrong) and appealing voice should be of interest to jazz listeners. His ballads grew in stature in later years, while the up-tempo performances tended to be less memorable novelties. Although it should be augmented by collections that focus on his recordings of the '20s and early '30s, this is the definitive Bing Crosby set. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide

Mine
Music by George Gershwin, Words by Ira Gershwin

Mine, love is mine,
Whether it rain or storm or shine.
Mine, you are mine;
Never another valentine.
And I am yours;
Tell me that I'm yours;
Show me that smile my heart adores.
Mine, more than divine –
To know that love like yours is mine!

You can listen to a few minutes of the song here

This is not 'Mine' but it's Crosby and Garland singing another song together from the same album so you can hear their voices together.

"Theodore Newlin is an America hero , Amen, Amen !"

This a fun little factoid about the Tammy Faye look-alike wife of the husband / wife TV evangelists couple that we see interviewing Ted Newlin .

We see this clip in episode 3 when Jason is watching TV late at night . The actress is Kelli Maroney and she is a female B movie horror film star as well as Soap star ( Ryan's Hope ) .

Kelli Maroney is best known for her film roles were in the 1982 comedy Fast Times at Ridgemont High as a cheerleader named Cindy, the 1984 science fiction movie Night of the Comet as Samantha Belmont; as well as two low-budget slasher films, The Zero Boys (1985) as Jamie, and Chopping Mall
(1986) as Alison.

In an interview with Maroney was featured in Jewel Shepard's Invasion of the B-Girls, a non-fiction book comprised of Q&A's with popular scream queens.

True Blood EpisodeThree : Mine recap from HBO site

"I'm posting the episode recaps from the HBO site. I think we should have them in our archive; they are really long so I will also post them in their entirety as a word document to our scribd site. I think they are worth carefully re-examining for clues!

Outside Bill's house, Sookie meets some of his less-than-welcoming vampire
friends: Diane, Malcom and Liam (the vamp from Maudette's sex tape). The three circle her, making suggestive comments and baring their fangs, then follow her into the house, where Bill seems unnerved by the situation that's developed. When Diane and her cohorts threaten to feed on Sookie, however, Bill steps in, declaring, "Sookie is mine."

The vampires step back, and the lapse in immediate danger gives Sookie a chance to notice the other humans in the room - a man and woman, both glamoured - who are serving as the group's playthings. As a young man named Jerry offers his neck for Bill to feed, Sookie hears his thoughts: " ... get infected you f**king vampire a**hole ..." She shrieks out a warning that Jerry has Hep D, a virus that only affects vampires, and stops Bill in time.
But Jerry - robbed of his chance at revenge for the murder of his boyfriend
- turns on Sookie. The attack ends almost before it begins when Bill breaks Jerry's wrist, leaving him unconscious on the floor. Diane wants to know how Sookie discovered the traitor, though Bill manages to deflect her questions and usher the group out the door ... with Jerry in tow.

At Merlotte's, Tara and Sam close down for the night, neither of them in a hurry to get home. After cracking a couple beers, their conversation turns to Sookie, who's been worrying them both. Tara tells Sam his affection for the waitress is obvious and prompts her new boss to make his move quickly, before things with Bill heat up any more. Sam explains how he already told Sookie he didn't mind if she read his thoughts, and Tara stops him: "She doesn't want to listen to anybody's thoughts ... Man, you don't stand a chance."

quotes episodes 1, 2 and 3

Quotes Season 1 Episode 3 - Mine

Bill to Malcolm, Liam and Diane: Sookie is mine.

Sookie to Bill outside her house: Oh come on, Bill. I may look naïve but I am not and you need to remember that.

Bill to Sookie: We are all kept alive by magic, Sookie. My magic is just a little different from yours, that’s all.

Sookie: Why on earth would I continue seeing you.
Bill: Because you will never find a human man you could be your self with.

Malcolm to Bill: Honey, if we can’t kill people what’s the point of being a vampire?

Sam: Do you know who I would really wish to come to Marthaville? Buffy. Or Blade. Or anyone of those bad ass vampire killers to take care of mister Bill Compton.

Quotes Season 1 Episode 2 - The first taste

Tare to Lafayette on the phone: What do you mean if you get lucky? Your standards are so low, you always get lucky.

Sookie to Bill after he licked blood from her forehead: Do I taste different from other people?

Bill to Sookie: May I ask you a personal question?
Sookie: Bill, you were just licking blood out of my head, I don’t think it gets much more personal than that.

Sookie to Bill outside her house: You might want to remember for next that that tornados hop, they don’t just land in one place.

Bill to Sookie outside his house: I can smell the sunlight on your skin.

Diane to Sookie at Bill’s house: Well hey there, little human chick.

Quotes Season 1 Episode 1 - Strange Love

Arlene at Merlotte’s: Do you even know what’s between a woman’s legs, Lafayette?

Sam about Tru Blood at Merlotte’s: Would you be willing to pass up all your favourite foods and spend the rest of life drinking Slimfast?

Bill at the parking lot after Sookie wraps the silver chain around her neck: oh, but you have other very juice arteries, there is one in the groin that is a particular favorite of mine.

Bill at Merlotte’s: They are staring at us because I am a vampire and you are mortal.
