Email me if you would be interested in being notified when then website goes up ...

Email: True Blood in Dallas

From a post by Blackphoebe..
One of my favorite Long Beach area artist/musician is Nicole Welke, who not only is a great musician, but is a fabulous painter of cutely subversive paintings. If you have been in the Ladies Room at Alex's Bar, you have seen her pink baby/bunny and little girl paintings on the walls. If you are a fan of the True Blood tv show, then you have seen Nicole's paintings.

Come out next Saturday night to Salon Pop to see Nicole's work in person and have a lovely time with the rest of us!

What: Art Show at Salon Pop, featuring Nicole Welke's paintings
When: Saturday, April 25, 2009
Time: 7-10pm
Where: Salon Pop, 1085 Redondo, Long Beach

Here is the bathroom feature in the Pam and Sookie " you vampire in your cleavage scene "

Visit to Fangtasia and new photos from one of our readers !

We have the best readers and best community in the world ..our very good friend, island girl sent us her wonderful photos and little "visit-logue" from her Valentine's Day visit to Fangatsia. Thanks Islandgirl!!

Our friend Robiart sent us others recently HERE

Here are some pictures I took at Alex's Bar. Sorry they are so crappie, but my darling husband forgot our camera so we had to use my phone. The fact he had agreed to take his crazed wife to the bar in the first place was a big deal, so I really couldn't get too mad about it. ;) Lord knows what people were thinking while I snapped pictures in the restroom...."I take pictures of bathrooms, it's sort of my thing" :)

We copped a squat on a Ramones paraphernalia table and just hung out there for 5 hours!! The people were really nice! The door guy looked kind of sketchy but after I started talking to him I was pleasantly surprised!

I have to laugh, that after a few cocktails, my husband started to point out various places that parts took place, then after a couple more he was asking where Eric was :)

As we waited for our cab the bouncer was making small talk with me.
Meanwhile I am thinking "Ha Ha Pam...I got out!". I told him what a fun bar it was and how we just don't have this kind of thing in Utah...hell we don't have much here to speak of. He said "Have you ever seen that HBO show TrueBlood?" I said "I have come across it once or twice. It's based on a book series right?" Never mind the fact that it was the reason I was there, I have read the books three times, turned everyone I know onto it, check the blogs daily, my own kids call me Sookie and I had to change out of my Trueblood shirt I was going to wear to Alex's, because my Husband didn't want to be embarrassed!!! You just don't want to come across as obsessed, even if you are :) You can get more information that way! He told me they had been filming the month before. I asked if he had met any of the actors and he said no. I tried to get out why they were closed the next few days and all I got was that it was for private engagements. He was a delightful guy!

Did I tell you I sat in the chair that Mr. Moyer did when Long Shadow was staked!!!!! I will never wash my butt again!!! Well....theoretically anyway!

I was a really good time and the best Valentine's Day EVER!
See the Wall o' Bubba :)

Behind the scenes with True Blood : Vampire in your cleavage

Our friend Robiart just emailed us with some great photos she took tonight at Fangtasia in the ladies bathroom ( that's really Alex's Bar in Long Beach, CA) . You can see the vampire cupie doll and other images in episode 9 -that's when Sookie is cleaning up after Bill has staked Longshadow. These are by the fabulous artist Nicole Welke. More here
You will also find a Youtube video below of Pam saying " ...there's vampire in your cleavage "
Love it!

Bartenders at Fantasia ?

Who tends bar at Fangatsia ?

1. Long Shadow
2, Chow
3. Charles Twinning ( arrhh matey)
4. Felicia

Pam says to Sookie ...Felicia thinks you are the bogeyman, since so many of the Fangtasia bartenders have died while you were around. Longshadow, Chow.” She smiled. “Oh, and your friend, Charles Twining.”
“None of that was my fault.” I’d listened to Pam with growing agitation. It’s so not good to
have vampires angry with you. Even the current Fangtasia bartender, Felicia, was much stronger than I would ever be, and she was definitely the low vamp on the totem pole.

The real Fangatsia - Alex's bar in Long Beach

, epiHave You Been to the Vampire Bar in Long Beach?

If you faithfully watched the first season of "True Blood" on HBO this Fall, then you'll remember Fangtasia, the vampire bar set in Shreveport, Louisiana. The true setting of the bar isn't too far off from reality, in alternative theme at least. It's actually Alex's Bar in Long Beach which is one of the top venues for punk music in the Los Angeles area. LAist has visited them a number of times for shows and is happy to see the great venue used for a great show (also a candy-crack easy-to-read addicting book series by Charlaine Harris).
