SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Everyone already assumes Chloe Moretz is an old soul.
(Understandable enough, since her last role was as the limb-hacking, c-word-spouting Hit-Girl in Kick-Ass.)
So the 13-year-old would seem ideally cast as a centuries-old vampire who wears the guise of an adolescent girl in Let Me In (in theatres Friday), the Americanized remake of the acclaimed Swedish thriller Let the Right One In. Until she reminds you, "I'm just a little girl."
A point underscored by this: She hasn't watched the original film because she's not allowed to.
"My mom won't let me see it. It's too strong material for me. Which means I'm going to have to wait a little bit. But also I wouldn't have wanted to watch it, even if I was able to. (Director Matt Reeves) and my brother, who's also my acting coach, didn't want me to watch it because you want to read the script and be emotionally connected to it and you want to take a part of yourself and put it into the character, not just imitate someone else. It sounds stupid, but I've only started to (watch) PG-13 movies. Nobody believes me."
Based on the novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist, Let Me In, like its predecessor, concerns a lonely, bullied 12-year-old boy (Kodi Smit-McPhee from The Road) transfixed by his new neighbour: A girl named Abby who, it is revealed, is a member of the undead, complete with an insatiable hunger for blood.
