Did True Blood Weigh In On The “Ground Zero Mosque” Debate?

Yes, I think they did !

When vampire-related HBO campy drama True Blood initially premiered in September 2008, the lead-up publicity campaign included the cable news-like fodder of vampire vs. human politics. But after the first few episodes of season one, the political plotlines had almost disappeared.
That has changed in the past few episodes of season three, including last night when it sounds like the show dipped a toe in the “Ground Zero Mosque” controversy.
Well, maybe not the Islamic Center controversy du jour specifically, but the vampires as Muslims connection was clear last night. In the previous episode, vampire leader Russell Edgington had gone off the rails, and in a disturbing, gruesome and admittedly funny scene he murders a news anchor live on air. Now he’s on the run, and Nan Flanagan, spokesperson of the American Vampire League, is on TV to discuss the ramifications.
The news anchor who interviews Flanagan describes Edgington as a “vampire terrorist,” and Flanagan doesn’t move away from that designation. “I do not deny that this was a heinous act of a mad man,” said Flanagan. “Russell Edgington is an extremist and a terrorist. But that’s not because he is a vampire. It’s because he’s an extremist and a terrorist.”

Virtual mainstreaming

By Simon Dyda

Ever since the 'Great Revelation' growing numbers of 'fangophiles' have been joining the ranks of the American Vampire League and voicing their support for the Vampire Rights Amendment to the US constitution. More and more of your undead neighbours in the US have been 'mainstreaming' into American society. Similar events are unfolding across the globe, although there are plenty of less progressive parts where mainstreaming is still not an option. In these cases the internet has been of invaluable assistance, offering vampires the opportunity to integrate on a 'virtual' level with human society even when that is not possible in the real world. And in those countries where it is possible to mainstream, the internet has proven to be of great help for those vampires taking their first steps towards social integration.

For most vampires the internet experience has been thus far pretty interesting. My impression as an AVL volunteer has been that they enjoy dropping in to their myspaces, facebooks, bebos, youtube channels, blogs and twitters and interacting with their human cyberfriends. The vibe is generally a good one. Sure, there are always a few weirdos leaving creepy comments about silver bullets, stakes and sunrises and what have you, but these are easily deleted and their authors shown to the virtual door.

However, some of our nocturnal kin are being overwhelmed with messages and requests. Remember, nobody likes a needy cyberfriend. Just because a vampire drinks Tru Blood doesn't mean that they have either the time or the inclination to help you get hold of some, especially considering that you don't actually need it yourself, now do you? Another thing: just because vampires have such very long lifespans doesn't give you the right to demand their time or tell them what to do. Be nice, relax. Social networking has to be fun, whether you're human or vampire, so keep it that way.

Read on ..fascinating !

American Vampire League

What is the VRA?

The VRA is the Vampire Rights Amendment, a proposed amendment to the Constitution that would take effect two years after ratification. It has two simple provisions: 1. Equal rights under the law at the federal and state levels for vampires. 2. Granting Congress the right to enforce this.

In order for the VRA to pass, it needs to be sponsored by a Senator and Representative and introduced into Congress. Thirty-eight states are required for ratification. We are currently seeking sponsors in both the Senate and House.
What can I do to help with the VRA?
We are seeking sponsors in the Senate and House. We urge you to write your local Senator and Representative to request sponsorship of this bill.
Who works for the American Vampire League?
We are an inclusive organization of vampires and human volunteers, working around the clock to fight for civil liberties and equality for vampires.
Where can I meet vampires?
Chances are you already have. We are contributing members of your community. Check out our Meet Your Neighbors page to see what vampires are doing in your neighborhood.
What are your business hours?
We strive to be open 24 hours. From 5 am – 5pm our office is staffed by human volunteers. Vampires do their own lobbying from 5pm to 5am with the exception of summer hours, when we are closed from 5pm to 10pm.
What is Tru Blood?
Tru Blood is a synthetic nutrient for vampires that completely eliminates the need to seek sustenance from any living creature. Packaged as a consumer good at your local supermarket, Tru Blood is as safe and plentiful as fruit juice.
How can I help spread the word about all the great things the AVL is doing?
