Proof that True Blood’s vampire shower sex could have been a whole lot hotter

Many folks were disappointed with True Blood's recreation of the infamous Vampire Eric and Sookie shower sex scene from Charlaine Harris' original book. Instead of carnal lust, we got two stoned teenagers talking about snow. Oof.
Here's the proof, in the form of a steamy reading from the book in which the vampire shower sex was spawned, that thing could have been a hell of a lot hotter.
As many of you know, we were less than thrilled with the reimagining of the infamous Vampire Eric sex fest. Instead of carnal shower lust, it was mutated into a snowflake-strewn romp that flopped onto the screen like Bill's new haircut. It was ridiculous, to say the very least. And with a show that is predominately about about vampires having sex with each other, we'd like to hope that the fine folks who make the "vampires having sex" series would take their vampire sex a little bit more seriously.

Sookie bk 4: Eric & Sookie shower scene Alan Ball says fans will be 'very happy' ( listen here)

The fourth Charlaine Harris novel also features Sookie and Eric becoming very close, like, in the biblical sense. Will the fourth season stay true to that? "If you know the books and you like the fourth book in the series, you won't be disappointed," executive producer Alan Ball says. "[In that book], they have a pretty hot hookup that goes on for a while, but all I'm saying is fans of Team Eric will be very happy this year."

Sookie enlivens 'Dead to the World'

Read the review and then read the book again to get ready for True Blood season 4

BOOK REVIEW
Try delving deeper into the supernatural world, and you'll uncover the completely natural, pretending. In Dead to the World, the fourth novel in the Sookie Stackhouse Series, author Charlaine Harris throws witches into the fray. The completely human dabblers in the supernatural create mayhem in Sookie's life, challenging her to move forward with her innermost desires while fighting her foes.

Book four begins with a teaser about something Sookie relished in the past, her relationship with Bill, who makes a valiant attempt to explain the vampire world to Sookie by telling her he got with his old girlfriend, Lorena, who turned Bill into a vampire. She ordered him to leave Sookie, and he had to respond to the blood tie when she called. Sookie is feisty and refuses to listen to his platitudes. Bill adds further injury by telling her that he's leaving for a while on the queen's orders to go to Peru. Bill leaves her in danger of attack.

Hotshot : Were-panthers as described by Charlaine Harris in Sookie books

Here is a great article about the panthers native to Florida that Charlaine was using in Book 4 being brought back from near extinction.
That's Crystal in the middle -Ha!
Here kitty kitty !

Dead to the World
He wasn't thinking tabby or calico when he said feline; he was thinking panther.
Panthers were what we called mountain lions. Sure, there aren't mountains around here, but panthers—the oldest men hereabouts called them "painters"—live in low bottomland, too. To the best of my knowledge, the only place panthers could be found in the wild was in Florida, and their numbers were dwindling to the brink of extinction. No solid evidence had been produced to prove that any live native panthers had been living in Louisiana in the past fifty years, give or take a decade.
But of course, there were stories. And our woods and streams could produce no end of alligators, nutria, possums, coons, and even the occasional black bear or wildcat. Coyotes,

There may be hope for the Florida Panther. After coming within two dozen cats of extinction, their numbers are increasing. How? Find out why hybrids were the answer, and see some very cute baby panther pictures along the way. here

Dead To The World: Sookie book #4 (True Blood S 4) by Charlaine Harris

Lets read ahead .....

Sookie comes to the rescue of a naked, amnesiac vampire – and ends up in the middle of a war between witches, werewolves and vampires! Sookie Stackhouse is a small-town cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. She’s pretty. She does her job well. She keeps to herself – she has only a few close friends, because not everyone appreciates Sookie’s gift: she can read minds. That’s not exactly every man’s idea of date bait – unless they’re undead – vampires and the like can be tough to read. And that’s just the kind of guy Sookie’s been looking for. Maybe that’s why, when she comes across a naked vampire on the way home from work, she doesn’t just drive on by. He hasn’t got a clue who he is, but Sookie has: Eric looks just as scary and sexy – and dead – as the day she met him. But now he has amnesia, he’s sweet, vulnerable, and in need of Sookie’s help – because whoever took his memory now wants his life. Sookie’s investigation into what’s going on leads her straight into a dangerous battle between witches, vampires and werewolves. But there could be even greater danger – to Sookie’s heart, because the kinder, gentler Eric is very hard to resist. The Sookie Stackhouse books are delightful Southern Gothic supernatural mysteries, starring Sookie, the telepathic cocktail waitress, and a cast of increasingly colourful characters, including vampires, werewolves and things that really do go bump in the night.

True Blood: Here come the witches!

If you have not read Sookie book 4 ( Dead to the World) or haven't read it in a while you NEED to read ahead now ! You know how Ball began bringing in book 3 during True Blood Season 2 you can just expect he will do it again now!

I think we need to concentrate on Hallow and how she might be connected to Yvetta  !
WHAT ???!!!!

Hallow, and her brother threatened Eric that they would curse him by turning Fangtasia's alcoholic drinks bad, and cause patrons to trip over the dance floor and sue them, which would badly affect Fangtasia’s revenues. Pam tells Sookie that a witch had come with a message from Hallow saying that Hallow lusted for Eric and asked him if he would entertain her for seven nights, she would only demand a fifth of his business, rather than half. Eric had refused and suddenly vanished from the office where they were discussing this offer. Eric says he does not remember anything and that he was born the moment he was running down the road. Pam and Chow asked Sookie to keep Eric safe while they solve the problem with the witches.
Later Sookie learns through Holly Clearly (another waitress at Merlotte's) that this coven of witches have a lot of power that they are willing to use for evil, that they drink vampire blood and that they are werewolves as well. Holly also tells Sookie that this new coven has called all local witches and Wiccans to join them. Furthermore, Sookie learns that her brother, Jason, is missing and starts looking for him. Sookie informs Alcide Herveaux of the existence of this werewolves-witch coven in Shreveport and heads to Hotshot to speak to Crystal Norris (a were-panther) as she was the last person Jason was seen with.

Dead to the World- review

Speaking of 'Dead to the World' Avidreader reviews it on her blog

Dead to the World is the fourth book in the Southern Vampire mystery series set in Bon Temps, Lousiana and featuring Sookie Stackhouse. She works as a barmaid at Merlotte’s and is gifted (or cursed) with telepathy. Ever since she hooked up with vampire, Bill Compton, life has ceased to be dull.

In Dead to the World, Sookie finds herself drawn back into the supernatural community when it is revealed that a coven of witches have taken up residence in Shreveport. Vampire bar owner and entrepreneur, Eric Northman seems to be their target. Negotiations between the witches and the vampires was a major FAIL, leading the Area Five sheriff and master vampire stripped of his memory. Wanted posters are put up with a $50,000 reward for his capture.

Sookie steps in to provide Eric with a safe place to stay in Bon Temps while his followers, namely Chow and Pam regroup. Sookie finds this new Eric much harder to resist especially since he’s been stripped of his self-identity. For the last three books Sookie’s fought Eric’s charms, but now that he’s vulnerable, her resistance to him is weak. The dynamics of their relationship changes a lot in this entry. Sookie is independent and doesn’t like people to control her. It’s revealing to me that she admits that she could resist Eric if he had been his usual, controlling self but when stripped of his personality, she falls hard.

Sookie Stackhouse book's dedications, acknowledgments and prologues ( bk 3 & 4)

Dedications, acknowledgments and prologues from Club Dead (Bk 3) and Dead to the World ( Bk 4 )

Book 3

Timothy Schulz, who told me flatly he wanted a book all to himself.

Acknowledgments

My thanks to Lisa Weissenbuehler, Kerie L. Nickel, Marie La Salle, and the incomparable Doris Ann Noms for their input on car trunks, great and small. My further thanks to Janet Davis, Irene, and Sonya Stocklin, also cybercitizens of DorothyL, for their information on bars, bourrée (a card game), and the parish governments of Louisiana. Joan Coffey was most gracious with supplying information about Jackson. The wonderful and obliging Jane Lee drove me patiently around Jackson for many hours, entering thoroughly into the spirit of finding the perfect location for a vampire bar.

Charlaine Harris has produced two mystery series in addition to her Sookie Stackhouse books. She lives in southern Arkansas with her husband, three children, two dogs, two ferrets, and a duck. An avid reader, mild cinemaphile, and occasional weightlifter, her favorite activity is cheering her children on in various sports while sitting on uncomfortable bleachers. Her website is www.charlaineharris.com.

Book 4

Though they'll probably never read it, this book is dedicated to all the coaches—baseball, football, volleyball, soccer—who've worked through so many years, often for no monetary reward, to coax athletic performances out of my children and to instill in them an understanding of The Game. God bless you all, and thanks from one of the moms who crowds the stands through rain, cold, heat, and mosquitoes.
However, this mom always wonders who else might be watching the night games.

My thanks to Wiccans who answered my call for knowledge with more information than I could use—Maria Lima, Sandilee Lloyd, Holly Nelson, Jean Hontz, and M. R. "Murv" Sellars. I owe further thanks to other experts in d ifferent fields: Kevin Ryer, who knows more about feral hogs than most people do about their own pets; Dr. D. P. Lyle, who is so gracious about answering medical questions; and, of course, Doris Ann Norris, reference librarian to the stars.
If I have made mistakes in the use of the knowledge these kind people imparted, I'll do my best to somehow blame it on them.

Afterword

Dear Reader,

In case you haven't met me before, my name is Sookie Stackhouse. I've been working at Merlotte's Bar for four years now. For the first three, things were quiet. Then, one night, Bill the Vampire walked in, and my life changed forever. While we've followed the familiar pattern (vampire meets girl, vampire gets girl, vampire loses girl), I have a feeling our association has more twists and turns yet to come.
In the first month I knew Bill, there was a serial killer in the area hunting down barmaids with vampire boyfriends—and the main suspect was my brother Jason(Dead Until Dark).
Then, at the beginning of fall, the vampires of Dallas asked the vampires of Shreveport if they could borrow me for a little investigation into a missing nestmate of theirs(Living Dead in Dallas). At the same time, the short-order cook at Merlotte's was murdered, and since I counted myself his friend, I felt I should do everything I could to solve the mystery of his death. Bill's boss, Eric, had a lot to do with my trip to Big D, and he developed an interest in me that hasn't flagged.
Right before Christmas, I began to think Bill was engaged in some hanky-panky. He left town, and vanished in Mississippi. Eric talked me into going to Jackson to search for him. As my cover, I was escorted by the Werewolf Alcide Herveaux. While searching for Bill, I met some of the state's less reputable citizens at the supernatural hangout in Jackson, called Club Dead.
That brings me up to the start of Dead to the World.
And now that I'm pretty much mad at everyone, and Jason might be a Shifter at the next full moon, what's going to happen next?
The way my life's been going since Bill Compton came into Merlotte's, there just no telling.

L.A. Rag Mag discovers the Sookie books

The enthusiasm caught me, but the photo made me laugh out loud. Now admit it, every single one of us looked like this during some part of reading 'Dead to the World' -hahahahahha

A: Wha-WHAT! I’m totally glamoured by Sookie Stackhouse’s latest mystery, Dead To The World (Book 4), but this time it doesn’t involve her vampire boyfriend Bill. Instead she finds Eric the vampire stud lost and confused on the side of the road. I just ran to Borders last night and have been working so I’m only on page 50 but it’s already sucking the life out of my VH1 watching. I read book 3, Club Dead, a while ago, because honestly the books are so good you can pick up any one and Charlaine Harris will fill you in.

Review: Dead to the World, Charlaine Harris

Interesting review from Racy Romance, I loved her description of Hotshot "I loved the introduction of the Hotshot shifter community. Basically, it’s Deliverance meets The Munsters."

In each Southern Vampire Mystery, heroine Sookie Stackhouse deals with a threat to a loved one while being drawn in to some larger intrigue in the paranormal community. In Dead to the World, it’s her randy brother Jason who has gone missing, while an ambitious coven of vamp-blood drinking witches, some of them Weres, have come to town. These two plot lines are equally strong, and are weaved together in a satisfying way in DTTW.

DTTW opens with a naked Eric Northman crossing Sookie’s path as she drives home from work at Merlotte’s bar. Eric’s memory has been wiped by a witch, and Sookie agrees to hide him in her home. Normally, Eric is ruthless, self-interested, ambitious, power-hungry, confident to the point of conceit, and morosely funny. I found it remarkable how Harris was able to write Eric in this book: somehow all of those characteristics were transformed into their begin variations. He was still Eric, yet … not.

Here’s an example. The coven has come looking for Eric, and Sookie has rushed home to tell Eric to hide: “You advise me to hide? To get back in that black hole below your house?” He sounded uncertain, but it was clear to me his pride was piqued.

THE FUN-DEAD: ALAN BALL, HBO AND AUTHOR CHARLAINE HARRIS HAVE MADE US ALL WANT TO BE VAMPIRES AGAIN WITH TRUE BLOOD.

by Mr. Norman Maine

So you think Alan Ball (Six Feet Under) and HBO have made vampires cool again? Wrong. They may have brought it to your attention but it’s the eight great books by author Charlaine Harris that’s really brought vampires back and made us all want to be one…again. It’s the continuing saga of the adorable Sookie Stackhouse, with her ‘disability’ (she can read minds), her merry band of Southern-fried friends and family, of course, vampires.

These books are so much fun that you’ll want to go from one to the next right away and honestly, you should. Harris provides the consistency that was missing in the Ann Rice vampire books. Because the Rice vampires were basically about the vampires and their own kind, and the Harris books are more about humans and their relations with vampires, Harris has allowed herself a bigger playing field. Not only is there room to grow and expand on her original ideas but the addition of the synthetic blood in the first book gave her an opportunity to explore the vampire mind without having to have them chomp someone every night to stay alive—although there is certainly plenty of chomping.

Harris also kicked open the locked door of the vampire actually having sex with humans; well really, of vampires having sex at all. For a long time the allure of the vampire was, and still is, very sexual and what made it so hot was that it was always such forbidden fruit. Could they, couldn’t they? Dracula was very charming and in the Coppola version, Dracula (Gary Oldman) actually did have sex with the lovely Lucy, but he was in the form of a beast, or what looked like a beast. In Interview With The Vampire it was Lestat (Tom Cruise) and Louis (Brad Pitt) and then Louis and Armand (An- tonio Banderas). And although Rice created a very powerful homoerotic subtext, nothing physical came of it: their sex was sharing victims. But Harris has taken it to a whole new level with the notion that vampires can do it, seem to be really good at it and are at least as horny as their un-undead counterparts.

So far Ball and HBO have done a really nice job of taking the first book of the series and molding it into a TV show. Granted, HBO allows a freedom that the networks can’t match but they have had their share of really awful shows as well—remember John From Cincinnati, and Lucky Louie? Actually, I must admit that personally I thought the crass and hysterically vulgar Lucky Louie was brilliant. Anyway, The first episode of True Blood was dull and didn’t inspire much hope; the second episode was much better—subsequently the show built viewership each week and was consistently better each episode as well. True Blood turned into a genuine hit and created its own subculture of vampire fans and lovers, so much so that HBO has renewed the show for a second season. But knowing HBO as we do, we can expect to probably wait a minimum of 12 to 18 months for another season of True Blood. So to feed our blood lust, as it were, here is a brief review of the next three books in the “Dead” series. In our next issue we’ll cover the last four. By the time you’re done reading them all it should be time for the second season to premier!

BOOK 2—LIVING DEAD IN DALLAS:

In the first novel of the series, Dead Until Dark, Sookie met and fell in love with Bill the Vampire. While some of her neighbors looked down on Sookie for her relationship, others were more accepting of her unusual boyfriend. In addition to the uneasiness of her human friends, Sookie has some challenges from the undead side of her relationship. Given the mostly secret and politically complex nature of vampire society, Sookie is obligated to assist Bill when her unique talents are needed.

Here Sookie is required to travel to Dallas, accompanied by Bill, to assist in finding a missing vampire. The investi- gation is almost immediately complicated by an attack and evidence of spying on the local master–something that the vampires frown upon, and vampires frown a lot. We soon learn that our world is inhabited with other supernatural creatures, which Sookie thought were only myths. As it turns out they live in the shadows of society, a place once reserved for the vampire; some of these other children of the night are helpful, others deadly. Sookie’s life is soon threatened, to say nothing of her affections.

Despite some fantastical elements, this tale mainly plotted like a mystery. The story starts with a dead body, feeds us our share of investigation and the obligatory fighting for survival. While the mysteries are a major plot device, Sookie’s character arc, as well as her almost accidental exploration of the world around her, is the key element to this story. Sookie Stackhouse is a very likable main character and Harris’ gift of keeping her pleasant through the books is a gift—she remains humble, proud, and brave. Sookie possesses unusual talents but still holds true to the stereotype of believable small-town waitress. I certainly won’t give away anymore of the plot here, but I will tell you that this book, although good, is not as good as the first or subsequent titles; but it’s still worth reading.

BOOK 3—CLUB DEAD:

Club Dead features shape-shifters and werewolves now living side by side with humans. As usual, Sookie seems to possess the gift for getting into trouble. This time around we (eventually) find Bill, who was planning on leaving Sookie for another Vampire until he suddenly goes missing. Sookie’s confused emotions are the subtext of the plot for this entry. Being the third novel of the series, Sookie’s relationship with the Vampire world is well established. Sookie’s ‘gift’ makes her something of a misfit in the human world, but clearly very useful to the Vampires.

The plot of Club Dead is familiar but still interesting. Sookie is in danger from the very beginning of the novel. At first her enemies appear to be Bill’s captors. However, she soon pisses off a group of Werewolves who may or may not be linked to Bill’s kidnapping. Such a vast palette of enemies provides plenty of opportunity to create life-threatening situations for Sookie, and Harris crafts them well. The great mystery surrounding Bill’s kidnapping is a bit forgotten along the way, but it all wraps up nicely in the end. Club Dead is not a novel that will stand up to deep scrutiny, but it is good fun.

BOOK 4—DEAD TO THE WORLD:

The fourth book in the series finds Sookie back in Bon Temps still fuming at her ex-boyfriend vampire Bill. This time around all that Sookie wants to do is wait on tables, watch cable, and not get beaten up by yet another supernatural creature. In fact, when Bill announces he is bound for Peru to do research, she is even a bit pleased. But nothing lasts, and while driving home one night she finds Area 5 Vampire Sheriff Eric wandering around in various states of undress, confused and lacking any memory of who he was. Suddenly Sookie, who finds the new Eric much nicer than the old one, (we all know by now how conniving and ruthless Eric can be) is embroiled in a war that pits a coven of extortionist witches and werewolves who thrive on vampire blood against every supernatural creature in the Shreveport area. To make matters worse, Sookie’s perpetually half naked brother Jason disappears, leaving her worried to death and depending on a crazed, mixed crew of vampires and a somewhat ditzy fairy for support and protection.

Of course, the secret of this series is the fact that our somewhat “blond” heroine Sookie is a lot tougher than you might think. Yes, she is emotional, attracted to the spookiest men, has zero fashion sense—and lets not for get her “gift”—but time and again, through it all she has learned to pick up the pieces and carry on. If you don’t count her taste in men, Sookie’s actions generally makes sense. This is an easy read and a fun one. Harris again ties up MOST of the loose ends but leaves enough for the next book; and thankfully for the reader/viewer, Alan Ball, HBO and Sookie, there’s always going to be another book!
