Actor Ryan Kwanten on ‘Griff the Invisible’ Versus ‘True Blood’
I’ve been very fortunate in the last couple of years, where two of the better scripts that I’ve read happened to be Australian scripts by Australian writers and directors. And that is now very much sort of an important part of my hiatus period – in the five months I get off, I’ll at least do one film that’s based in Australia now. Because there really are some great filmmakers down there, and some really good stories to tell.
Does working on a show like “True Blood” which has fewer episodes maybe than a network show give you more time to pursue these film projects?
The short answer is yes. I feel very fortunate to have landed the role, and to be on that network, because they do phenomenal stuff. They refuse to rest on their laurels, I feel, in terms of each season there’s a progression and it’s getting stronger and stronger, and outside of that it’s really changed my life. It’s taken my career to a whole other level.
Because “True Blood” is so consistently unpredictable, does it continue to surprise or challenge you, or have you sort of adjusted to its twists and turns and they’ve become a natural or comfortable progression?
No. Alan Ball does a very TV-savvy version of the books, so even if you are phenomenally well-researched in knowing what happens in the books, that doesn’t necessarily parlay into knowing what’s going to happen in our series. There’s been more than a fair share of things that have been different. This season is no different; my character is supposed to turn into a were-panther this season, but we’ll see what happens with that. He might be lucky to survive the season, so we’ll see.

Kwanten a low-key superhero
http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/entertainment/a/-/entertainment/9029197/kwanten-a-low-key-superhero/There is no doubt Aussie star Ryan Kwanten could have suited up as a superhero in one of Hollywood's comic-book blockbusters coming out this year and next. He is, after all, on top of the world as the star of the cult vampire series True Blood. And he suits the part. He's 34. He has boyish good looks and flashy blue eyes. He's rugged yet likable. And with solid small roles in his pocket, he's now on the verge of serious fame and fortune.
"There have been chances to audition for various superhero roles," Kwanten admits during a break from filming season four of True Blood. He won't say which roles, and one can only guess how he'd go in Spider-Man's spandex tights or The Hulk's stretchy purple shorts.

Ryan Kwanten was named Australian GQ's Man of the Year.
"True Blood" stud Ryan Kwanten was named Australian GQ magazine's Man of the Year in a sparkling ceremony, The Daily Telegraph reported on Wednesday.
Although exhausted, top prize winner Kwanten sizzled on the Sydney Opera House's red carpet Tuesday in Ralph Lauren, and said he was set to spend more time in the air than on the ground in the coming days.
Having only flown in Tuesday, he was set to fly back to Los Angeles Wednesday and go straight to the set of the cult vampire series that made him an international star.
Firass Dirani, of Australian hit show "Underbelly," took the award for TV Actor of the Year -- and unofficially won most flamboyantly dressed in an eggplant Gucci blazer.
"It's all about the suave tonight -- it's GQ," he said.

True Blood's Ryan Kwanten Opens Up About Gay Brother
Not only does the Aussie hottie talk to The Advocate about the possibility of his True Blood character getting it on with a guy, he also opens up to the mag about having a gay brother...
PHOTOS: True Blood's True Loves
"My youngest brother, Lloyd, is gay," says the 33-year-old actor. "He's a doctor, so he got every ounce of intelligence in the family. He was probably about 18 when he came out, and I can wholeheartedly tell you that from the day that he did, he was a changed man for the better. The sheer beauty of who he is really came through."
Too friggin' sweet!

Ryan Kwanten's latest movie: Western Meets Horror NYT
When Shane Cooper (Ryan Kwanten of “True Blood”) arrives in the one-horse town of Red Hill as its newest police officer, he faces a doozy of a first day. A storm is brewing, a horse has been viciously disemboweled, and Jimmy Conway (Tom E. Lewis), an Aboriginal killer, has just escaped from a nearby maximum-security prison. None of which is good news for Shane, whose pregnant wife’s blood pressure is already dangerously unstable.
As Conway, ferociously scarred within and without, heads toward town to settle old scores, the tension between Shane’s liberal values and the trigger-happy style of his colleagues tightens. Like the best westerns, “Red Hill” is a stripped-down morality tale; like the best horror movies, its true monsters remain cloaked until the final reel.

Ryan Kwanten cooks Italian Osso Bucco on MARTHA STEWART SHOW
Make no bones about it, Martha was smitten in the kitchen during today’s bone-themed edition of THE MARTHA STEWART SHOW (Hallmark Channel, 10 AM ET/9 AM C – same day encore airing, 2 PM ET/next day airing, 1 PM ET) when True Blood's steamy star stopped by to prepare a traditional Italian Osso Bucco dish. Although Ryan wasn’t stripped down to his usual bare bones today, as is the case on the set of his hit HBO series, he definitely sent chills up Martha’s spine!
While chatting about Ryan’s new bone-tingling movie, “Red Hill”, Martha repeatedly uttered “you look really good”, and well, he did! Ryan felt very comfortable, as if Martha had invited him over to her house for dinner. Once she got Ryan to take his hands out of his pockets, Martha assured him she’d have him do something that “makes your hands messy.” “Get me dirty!”- he fired back.
Soundbites from Ryan’s segment are pasted below and a photo of Martha and Ryan cooking Osso Bucco is attached. Credit: David Russell/The Martha Stewart Show.

Kwanten's Hidden Talent: Prankster
"I think if Ryan could retire from acting and be a prankster, he would consider it," Jim Parrack, who plays Hoyt Fortenberry on the HBO hit, tells PEOPLE.
So what was one of Kwanten's more memorable pranks? "He took our cameraman's car and filled it with ladybugs," says Parrack. "He goes all out."

‘True Blood’s’ Ryan Kwanten Writing Advice Book, "The G- Strtegy"
Oprah Winfrey has had a host of guests visit her famous couch over the years who have offered life advice to her audience of millions, but could “True Blood’s” Ryan Kwanten be heading there in the coming months?
Ryan, who plays the ripped-but-intellectually-light Jason Stackhouse on the hit HBO vampire series, isn’t just an actor – he’s a writer too, one who has penned his own self-help book “The G-Strategy.”
Likely due for release in “early-mid next year,” the Australian actor told AccessHollywood.com recently that the book is part self-help guide, part parody, depending on the reader.
So is he taking aim at the books men and women buy to help boost their self esteem, Access asked?
“It’s actually both men and women, the self help books,” he said. “Predominantly, with men, it’s more the finance type world. With those, you’ve got the Wall Street guys that lap up anything that is a chance to make a quick buck and then with the women, I guess it’s sort of the more — without being too generalized — sort of the more emotional sort of type stuff that’s gonna make you happy.”

True Blood‘s Ryan Kwanten says when doing a nude scene tie the “modesty sock” on really tight
Vampires, maenads, telepaths, shapeshifters — even the Fellowship of the Sun.
As True Blood‘s oft-shirtless — and ever clueless — resident mortal hunk Jason Stackhouse, Ryan Kwanten has just about seen it all –- and he’s done it without having to worry much about a wardrobe. But as the third season of the HBO hit series gears up for it’s June 13 premiere, Sookie’s older brother can breathe a slight sigh of relief (and maybe let himself go a bit) as the rest of the cast will be doing the bulk of the flesh-baring.
“I’ve passed the nudity mantel,” Kwanten tells PEOPLE at Ubisoft’s launch of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. “Some of the others cast members have taken on the throne.”
And a sometimes chilly throne it is.

True Blood creator Alan Ball praises his actor Ryan Kwanten, formerly of Home and Away
From Herald Sun
AUSSIE actor Ryan Kwanten has hit it big in the US vampire drama True Blood and no one could be happier for him than the show's creator, Alan Ball.
Ball - whose credits include Academy Award-winning film American Beauty and Emmy-winning Six Feet Under - is full of praise for the former Home and Away actor who plays Jason Stackhouse in the series.
For True Blood all the actors have to leave their inhibitions behind, especially Kwanten who seems to get his clothes off in most episodes.
The series is set in the fictional town of Bon Temps, where humans co-exist with vampires, and stars Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Kwanten.
"One of the things I really appreciated about Ryan is his willingness to look foolish," Ball says
