Dallas celebrates the return of True Blood with a Contest #7 True Blood -Vampire media ?

Vampire media - tell me a little about vampires and television,

We knew right off in the first few seconds of True Blood when we saw on the TV set in Grabbit Kwik, Nan Flanagan being interviewed by Bill Maher that media and television was going to be VERY important to vampires.

Tell me the name of one vampire TV show we see on True Blood?

Tell me the name of a vampire TV show we read about in the Sookie Stackhouse books?

If you were asked by Ball or Harris to think up a vampire television program( this is a show for vamps to watch not for humans to watch about vamps)

What would be your idea for a vamp sitcom?

What would be you idea for a vamp reality show ?

Talk show ?

Game show ?

How about a special that PBS or Discovery could do for vamp audiences ?

Shoot to Kill; Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgard's army stint did little to help his 'tour of duty' in Iraq

From The Straits Times (Singapore)

Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgard was a sergeant in the Swedish marines. But that did not prepare him for the filming of HBO's latest series, Generation Kill. The seven-part miniseries, which premiered on Max (StarHub Channel 59) last night, chronicles the first 40 days of the 2003 Iraq war from the perspective of a group of elite American marines.

Produced by the creators of the critically acclaimed HBO series The Wire, the new series takes a similarly hard-hitting look at the gritty realities of war.

'When they wrote it, there was a conscious effort to make it as real as possible and not to explain everything to the audience,' says 32-year-old Skarsgard over the telephone from Sweden where he is holidaying with his family.

He admits having trouble understanding the technical lingo between the soldiers in the script initially.'That was a big challenge because when I first read the script I didn't understand half the words.'

Based closely on the award-winning non-fiction book of the same name by journalist Evan Wright who was embedded with the 1st Reconaissance Battalion during the war, the series is touted to depict the true nature of combat. The names of the characters are those of real marines who were in the First Recon Battalion as well.'It is very technical and the way they speak to each other is not everyday English,' explains Skarsgard. 'But that was something that I really liked because you really feel like you do take part in the journey.'

To ensure the authenticity of the show, two real-life marines were on set to conduct a crash course for the cast and crew as well as to serve as consultants through the filming process.'

They were tremendously supportive, helping us out with everything from small details such as stepping out of a humvee, a military vehicle, to holding a weapon,' says the actor of the team's dedication to specifics.

The Swedish hunk who plays sergeant Brad 'Iceman' Colbert in the show is no stranger to television. He is the son of critically acclaimed actor Stellan Skarsgard whose movies include Angels & Demons (2009) and Mamma Mia! (2008), and has been working in film and theatre since the tender age of seven. The oldest of six siblings, Skarsgard started out as a child actor but took a eight-year hiatus from the industry when he turned 13.'I didn't like the focus and the attention that I got. I just wanted to go to school, play football with my friends and be a regular kid.' says Skarsgard, who then went on to complete his military service in the Swedish marines and study language at Leeds Metropolitan University in England. But the acting bug bit again and he enrolled in at Marymount Theatre School in New York City in 1997.

Since then, the good-looker, who has been named Sweden's Sexiest Man five times by the media there, has been carving a name for himself in the industry. He has worked in various Swedish productions including the successful Swedish movie Hundtricket (2002), where he was nominated for a Guldbagge Award, given by the Swedish Film Institute, for his supporting role.He is currently filming the second season of the hit HBO series, True Blood, where he plays Eric Northman, a powerful vampire. When asked what viewers can look forward to in that show, he cheekily replies: 'We're still shooting so I can't reveal too much, but yes, I am naked in Season 2.' fionalow@sph.com.sg Generation Kill is on every Sunday at 9pm on MAX (StarHub Channel 59).

From Marine Sergeant to Viking Vampire: The Alexander Skarsgard Interview

Three months ago, I was kidding around with the idea of interviewing Mr. Alexander Skarsgard. I envisioned myself doing the interview at Red Pirates’ pub in Boracay, over a piña colada at happy hour. Of course, bringing along with me my two friends who likewise enjoy his work.

When I got a text message last week saying he may indeed be up for an interview, I could just hear that Journey song in my head going “Don’t stop believing . . .”

Alexander was taking a break from shooting season two of True Blood where he plays a thousand year old vampire when he took the “phoner” at the Skarsgard family country house in the gorgeous Stockholm Archipelago.

Salon.com listed him as one of 2008s Sexiest Men and called him HBO’s “It Boy.” HBO has recently submitted his name to the Emmys for consideration in the categories Best Actor in a Miniseries (Generation Kill) and Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (True Blood).

Listening to the 32-year-old actor talk—you could tell he absolutely loves being with his family (he has six other siblings, his father is actor Stellan), he’s very polite and he’s quite dedicated to his craft.

Sgt. Brad “Iceman” Colbert and Eric Northman are like day and night. And that’s just how Alexander likes it: “I enjoy challenges in my work.” He loves stepping into projects that offer something different from those he’s done previously, projects where “you’re not necessarily super confident when you embark on the journey where it’s going to end or where it’s going to take you.” He adds, “I thrive in situations like that, I really love that. I’m in a state of where I’m very creative and I enjoy exploring my characters. I would not want to play the exact same character in 15 movies back to back.” He finds the initial uncertainty of dealing with new situation and a new character then eventually taking control of it, “one of the biggest kicks I get out of this job.”

Evan Rachel Wood Tells Us About Her True Blood Lesbian Vampire Queen

As promised, Movieline hit up the Young Hollywood Awards last night, a ceremony dedicated to honoring Tinseltown’s best and brightest (and youngest!). We witnessed heartfelt acceptance speeches and a knockout performance by Naturi Naughton from the upcoming Fame remake before moving on to a DJ AM-spun afterparty that Young Hollywood Artist of the Year Adam Lambert prefaced with, “I hope somebody buys me a drink.” No need, Adam — they were free!

First up in our series of red carpet video interviews from the event is Evan Rachel Wood, who was receiving the Young Hollywood Superstar award (presented by Patricia Clarkson) but took the time to talk to Movieline about her splashy season two performance as the vampire queen of True Blood, a role she’d been unable to discuss until now.

Find out about her take on the character and her impending lesbian love interest in the video

True Blood Travel Guide: Where to Score Custom Fangs

You've heard of Christmas in July, but we're about to get all Halloween in June this week as we prepare for the debut of the second season of HBO's TrueBlood. Any juicy suggestions or questions? Let us know.

Having finally kicked the ghost of Anne Rice's vampires from Louisiana, the addictive HBO drama True Blood is picking up speed partially due to the vampire-fever brought by Twilight and because of the sweaty summer scenery of hot southern swamps. If the thought of perspiring necks gets you just as hot as the muggy temperatures, then you might want to start outfitting yourself for the show's second season.

Although most people relegate the wearing of fake fangs to Halloween, the serious fans are seeking out spots for custom fang creation, and why not get them done in the heart of creepy country? In New Orleans, at the Boutique du Vampyre, customers can get their own sets of pointed pearlies for between $100 and $800.

Crafted to match your teeth color, a pair of these babies shows that you mean business. Plus, you're in a store in a New Orleans filled with vampire-related crap; that's gotta be something for the photo album.

True Blood Video : Fan Q&A Funny Moments

True Blood BloodCopy: More Schlock for your Jock

A new schlock-peddler has appeared on the infomercial scene. This one's trying to sell you a pill that will give you vampire "powers" (read: sexual prowess) without the side-effects of crisping in sunlight or getting severe lacerations from a silver bracelet.

Something tells us the V-Longate Dude came straight from a continuing-ed improv class, not from between the legs of his hot girlfriend. But these snake-oil peddler sorts, besides being the shiftiest characters to ever ooze across the earth, have proven that they can lead some pretty intense behind-the-infomercial lives. Exhibit A: the ShamWow Guy debacle from a couple of months ago. (Note: isn't it curious how the act that propagated the whole bloody mess was a bite on the tongue? Looks like ShamWow Guy got a little more than he bargained for his first time fangbanging. It happens.)
