A terrible virus that turns people, mortals in this case, into mindless zombies or bloodsucking vampires has become a threat in Sweden. It is still unclear as to how the virus came to the country but the virus has become left an imprint on Swedish culture, showing up in TV shows, movies and even on the runway.
The well-known actor Alexander Skarsgård was already infected in 2008 when he began playing evil vampire Eric Northman in the TV-show “True Blood,” which recently aired on Swedish television. It appears that he is in the recovery process, as his normal complexion has returned during the breaks in between shooting. read on

Vampires Are Hot Hollywood Property To The Tune Of Nearly $800 Million

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
According to legend, vampires may be elusive creatures, but in Hollywood those fangtastic bloodsuckers are the new mainstream.
According to a new report on The Daily Beast, Vampire franchises are hot to the tune of nearly $800 million a year.
The Web site reported on Friday that the “Twilight” franchise, which just opened its latest installment, “New Moon,” is worth a fat $500 million a year at the movies.
HBO’s “True Blood,” based on Charlaine Harris’ “Sookie Stackhouse” books, is the most successful series on the network since “The Sopranos,” and the Daily Beast estimates it brings in a likely $50 million a year. The CW’s new hit show “The Vampire Diaries,” is estimated to take in $20 million.
And as the shows and movies continue to gain strength, book sales are boosted as well.
Between “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer, Harris and a number of additional popular franchises such as “The Vampire Academy” and “Vampire Hunter,” the Daily Beast estimates the publishing industry adds in another $100 million.

Is there something inherently evil about an English accent?
The British ambassador doesn't think so, but he is seeing what he calls a "cinematic trend" in Hollywood where the latest, chic vampire movies feature English actors.
Rather than complain about the typecasting,Ambassador Nigel Sheinwald welcomes the exposure for young, talented British actors and expects the trend to continue.
"It seems an immutable law of Hollywood that the finest baddies in American film are always played by Brits. I'm not sure exactly why - there is nothing inherently menacing, I think, about an English accent," he wrote on his blog at http://blogs.fco. gov.uk/roller/sheinwald.
He was inspired to muse on the fame of British bloodsuckers with the release of the second installment of the vampire saga, "Twilight." British actor Robert Pattinson plays the young vampire,Edward Cullen, in his star-crossed romance with Bella Swan, played by American actress Kristen Stewart.
"This spectacular teen drama ... has attracted, in some circles, as much attention as the current health care debate (although being undead would still presumably be classed as a pre-existing condition?)," Mr. Sheinwald quipped.
He also noted that another English actor, Stephen Moyer, has "proved a tremendous hit" as vampire Bill Compton in the HBO series, "True Blood."
British actors have a long history of portraying Dracula, who, according to legend, was Romanian. Nevertheless, the English accent stuck, like the cape, the bat and a stake through the heart. Christopher Lee played the vampire count, popularized by the Irish novelistBram Stoker in 1897, in several films in the 1950s and Gary Oldman continued the tradition, playing Dracula in a 1992 film.
Mr. Sheinwald wondered whether this was really just a coincidence or something more "cryptic."
"Could it be the British climate creates the pale and pasty complexion necessary to portray authentically Bram Stoker's monster?" he asked. "Or is it our 'deadpan' humor, putting the grave in graveyard, that makes us British especially suited to vampire kitsch?"
Mr. Sheinwald concluded with confidence that British actors will continue to enjoy stardom in Hollywood.
"The 'stakes' may be high," he said, "but you my most definitely 'count' on it!"

Alexander Skarsgard: ‘I’m Excited To Get Naked!’
Alexander Skarsgard hits the red carpet at the GQ “Men Of The Year” party held at Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont on Wednesday night (November 18).
The 33-year-old Swedish actor shared that he’s looking forward to getting back to shooting his hit vampire TV series, True Blood in December. When asked about starring in nude scenes for the upcoming season, Alex told JustJared.com, “I’m extremely excited to get naked!”

Daybreakers new vampire movie
Lionsgate Films has released a new TV spot for the forthcoming much anticipated vampire film Daybreakers. Set in the year 2019,Daybreakers shows us a future where vampires rule the world and humans have been driven to near extinction. The problem with that is the dwindling blood supply created by the farming of the human race as fodder for the vampires.

The Evolution of the Vampire
From the Victoria Advocate Over the centuries, the image of the vampire has been revamped (pun completely intended) multiple times. From mindless monster to suave, yet cold-hearted artistocrat, to today's incarnation of sympathetic, cursed hero, the evolution of the vampire typically reflects the culture of the time. But although the image of the vampire may change, one thing that doesn't is that they are constantly being resurrected (Bah-ZING!) in popular culture. Ancient Times Even the earliest civilizations, such as the Sumerians, had stories of vampire-like beings and blood-sucking demons, according to an article in the American Chronicle. Many of the early tales, though not all, describe vampires as soulless, and in some cases, mindless killers. 1450: The Real-Life Dracula The historical figure that the character of Dracula is based on is Vlad III, Prince of Wallachia, or as you probably know him, Vlad the Impaler, according to Eric Nuzum, author of "The Dead Travel Fast: Stalking Vampires from Nosferatu to Count Chocula." He wasn't a vampire, nor did he drink blood, but he did murder thousands of his countrymen. His chosen last name "Dracula," a reference to a religious order founded by his father, translates to "son of the devil," according to Nuzum.
