Alan Ball Interview Creator of HBO’s True Blood Series

From Buzzy Media

Charlaine Harris’ “Southern Vampire” books concern the goings-on in the small town of Bon Temps, Louisiana, resident telepath waitress Sookie Stackhouse and a whole lot of supernatural beings. These creatures include vampires, who have recently revealed themselves to humans worldwide after the development of the synthetic blood substance Tru Blood. Harris’ books appeal to a wide range of readers. One of these was Alan Ball, an Oscar winner for his original screenplay for American Beauty and creator of HBO’s highly-acclaimed series Six Feet Under, which ran for five seasons.

Dead Until Dark, he says he became enthralled. “I got into Sookie and the world and the characters, and I looked forward to going to bed every night, because I knew I was going to read the book before I went to sleep, and I would tell myself, ‘Okay, I’m just going to read two chapters,’ and I would read seven. I just felt, ‘This is kind of a phenomenon.’ I read first four books, [which] at that time [was what] had been published, and I wanted more. So I called [Harris]. At that time, she had given the rights to a film producer, but those rights were set to run out in a couple of months. They ran out and I convinced her to let me take a stab at it.”

'True Blood' Season 3 Love Fest Continues With A New 'Southland' Boyfriend For Lafayette

From MTV

While Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård), Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), her dimwitted brother Jason (Ryan Kwanten) and her best friend Tara (Rutina Welsey) are all getting their love on in the upcoming third season of "True Blood," they aren't the only characters with new romantic interests on the way.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, everybody's favorite cross-dressing short order cook Lafayette Reynolds (Nelsan Ellis) is the latest to find love on "True Blood." The foul-mouthed antihero and occasional drug pusher is set to fall for Jesus, a young Latino orderly played by "Southland" star Kevin Alejandro.

In "True Blood," Jesus is an orderly that is taking care of Lafayette's mother Ruby Jean, who will be played by the previously confirmed Alfre Woodard.

10 Things We Can't Wait to See in 2010

From Fearnet

2009? Done. The new year is here, and with it comes a clean slate and a host of new movies, series and games to get excited about - from killer fish in three dimensions to warmongering angels to the long-awaited return of two horror icons to the screen (and your nightmares). In chronological order, behold our top 10 reasons why 2010 could be a great year for horror fans.

The Return of Vicious Vampire Films (January 8 & beyond)
The tail end of the ‘00s may have belonged to sparkly vampires, but in 2010, their vicious brethren are taking the genre back to its bloody roots. First up is Daybreakers. Ethan Hawke plays a vamp scientist in a world dominated by bloodthirsty vampires who feed on humanity. Later this year, Twilight’s Cam Gigandet and True Blood’s Stephen Moyer team up with Paul Bettany’s warrior monk in the summer flick Priest, loosely based on the Korean comic about a shotgun-toting, vampire-hunting clergyman. And keep an eye out for those LA bloodsucker types in 30 Days of Night: Dark Days, which picks up as Stella (Kiele Sanchez) heads to California to exact revenge for her husband’s death.

Meet Lafayette's new boyfriend: Kevin Alejandro

Lafayette’s finally getting some.

As I first teased in Ask Ausiello, True Blood has been quietly searching for a hot thirtysomething Latino actor to play a love interest for Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) during the drama’s upcoming third season. Well, the search is over!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the recurring role has gone to Southland’s Kevin Alejandro.

Alejandro will play Jesus Velasquez, a good-natured Latino orderly who’s caring for Lafayette’s mother (played by Alfre Woodard).

Thoughts? Is Alejandro good boyfriend material for Lafayette? Sound off below!

Charlaine Harris on Tempest Rising

Whata a nice thing for author Nicole Peeler to say about Sookie

As some of you know, the book that inspired me to write Tempest Rising was Ms. Harris’s fifth book in the Southern Vampire Mystery series, Dead as a Doornail:

This was not the first urban fantasy I’d ever read, although when I was reading the genre that name did not exist. When I was a child, it was simply a weird sort of fantasy being published by Charles de Lint and Mercedes Lackey. Back then, to find Anne Rice, one needed to wander out of Fantasy and over to Horror, where she was shelved with Stephen King. Now Rice and King are both housed in Fiction, and other writers have come along claiming to have single-handedly spawned urban fantasy, ignoring de Lint and Lackey.

True Blood’s New Werewolves

What the hell are we doing talking about True Blood, a vampire show, here on this werewolf site?! Well, good news werewolf fans, the third and upcoming season of True Blood is going to be more about the wolves and less about the vamps. So far they have two new were-cast members, the young Marshal Allman and the damn sexy Joe Manganiello.

Joe Manganiello: True Blood fans have been waiting ages to find out who Alan Ball would chose to the play the big role of werewolf Alcide. I have to say that Anna Paquin’s Sookie Stackhouse is just about the luckiest girl ever. Not only does the True Blood beauty get to play with Alex Skarsgård’s vampire Eric and Stephen Moyer’s vampire Bill, but now she gets a gorgeous werewolf, too!

"Bubba," in the Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris

The vampire novels contain a rather stupid character named Bubba, aka The Man From Memphis who was supposedly not all the way dead when he arrived in the morgue. So the coroner (a vampire, conveniently) decides to "make" the Man from Memphis a vamp. So he can survive among his huge fan base unbeknownst, he goes by Bubba. And he prefers cat blood to human blood. He's eternally loyal, though, and a valued guard for Sookie. He even entertains every now and again.

Charlaine Harris and Sookie make NYT year end best seller list!

New York Times

Inside the List

AULD LANG SYNE: This week’s list covers the week ending Dec. 26, 2009 ...Now that the data have caught up with the calendar, it’s a good time to take stock of the year in best sellers.

ZOMBIELAND: Back in August, Charlaine Harris’s entire back catalog of vampire novels was on the mass-market fiction list, occupying eight of the 20 spots. Zombies stalked the trade paperback list, thanks to “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” (39 weeks) and Max Brooks’s “World War Z,” a 2006 best seller that came back to eat more brains.
