Sam Trammell: I don't believe in the supernatural

True Blood star Sam Trammell has confessed he doesn't believe in the supernatural.

But the 38-year-old actor, who plays bar owner Sam Merlotte in the hit vampire drama, admits it's fun to be a part of the spooky show.

Sam said: "Well, I'm not really one who believes in ghosts, I mean, I don't have a whole lot of supernatural bent in me, no, but it's fun to be part of it."

He went on: "I love the fantasy and the imagination and the world of it, I mean I love it. It's so much more fun than just doing a by-the-book series and playing a lawyer or doctor or fireman."

Sam may have a supernatural element to his character - who sporadically turns into a dog - but the actor prefers to focus on the other sides to him.

"I really like that he is damaged person, I came from a very normal American family which is great.I don't want to put it down, but Sam's parents abandoned him when he was 14 because he turned into a dog and that is a real scar on him.

"It's interesting to play someone like that, who has had to fend for themselves on streets and who didn't have parents and who knows how he found the money to buy the bar? That to me is the most interesting thing about Sam. More than the fact that he's a shapeshifter, just the fact that he had a difficult childhood."

TwiCon Coming to Ottawa, Canada!

At least it's not in Dallas again ;-) kidding!!!

As a resident of Ottawa, and a huge, huge fan of Twilight, I couldn’t be more excited to announce that TwiCon, the annual Twilight convention, is coming to Canada!! Not only to Canada, but to my very own city, Ottawa! The event was originally scheduled to be held in Toronto this summer but, because of the G20 Summit (and because let’s face it, Toronto already gets enough of the good stuff), it’s been moved to the nation’s capital!

TwiCon has actually only happened once before and that was last year in Dallas, Texas when 3,000 people – mostly screaming teenage girls with Rob Pattinson in their eyes – showed up. They’re estimating that only 1,200 people will show up at Ottawa’s event but I bet we see a lot more. Once again, Canada is underestimated. But I really don’t care how many people come because I know for certain that I will be there!

The most recent new episode featured both a hunt for a renegade Cupid (fun) and the appearance of Famine, the first of the four Horsemen (serious). THE VAMPIRE DIARIES (CW) It’s not the best new show of the season, but on a scale of expectation versus achievement, this smart, moody amalgam of “Dawson’s Creek” and “Twilight” would rank No. 1. Ian Somerhalder’s sly performance as the pouty bad-boy vampire Damon is a bonus. Returns March 25, with more back story: If Katherine (Nina Dobrev) wasn’t in the tomb, where has she been all these years?

FRINGE (FOX) “Fringe” is a good news, bad news proposition. The good news: Across a season and a half, the producers, writers and designers have maintained the most satisfying, entertaining, coherent story arc of any science-fiction-flavored prime-time drama. The bad news: No David Duchovny or Gillian Anderson. The performances here don’t rise to the level of the writing the way they did in “The X-Files,” the show that “Fringe” wants to be. Returns April 1, with the story of how Walter brought Peter back from the Other Side.

"True Blood" Author Charlaine Harris is Bluewater's Next "Female Force"

For most of the more than 20 years that Charlaine Harris has spent writing mysteries, she fit squarely into that later category. She had her fans, but she was nowhere near a household name. Then she created a character called Sookie Stackhouse, and everything changed.

This May, Harris will also star in her first comic book, as the subject of Bluewater Productions' latest entry in its popular Female Force line of biographical comics. Harris herself participated in Female Force: Charlaine Harris, granting extensive interviews to writer Kim Sherman. This marks an important first for Bluewater: Harris is the first celebrity to be interviewed for the Female Force series.

Sookie Stackhouse is now the featured character on HBO's hit southern gothic vampire series True Blood. And Harris, who will release her 10th Sookie Stackhouse book this summer, is finally one of those household names.

Visual Vamps: How Video Changed the Beast Within

“Twilight.” We’ve all heard the word, and whether you perk up upon hearing it or throw up a little, there is no question that you know what it is. The saga by Stephanie Meyer has infiltrated almost every home in America in the form of TV commercials, movies, books and even clothing.

“New Moon,” the second movie of the four-part series, grossed $140 million at the box office on opening weekend, earning $72 million on opening night. According to Michelle Lee, an undeclared sophomore, “‘Twilight’ equals ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Harry Potter’ – it’s that big.”

But why has “Twilight” become such a sensation? For one thing, the story allows us to indulge in the idealized love story between human and superhuman and to escape the flaws of realistic relationships in order to experiment with the prospect of eternal love.

Beyond that, “Twilight” has, shall we say, “re-vamped” the popularity of vampires in mainstream pop culture.

The Southern Gothic Brilliance Of True Blood

Who knew that regal southern gentlemen vampires and demure human ladies could make for the greatest show to hit HBO in quite some time? Getting geared up for a third season, fans are buzzing about what could possibly happen this time around. So far, the series has managed to make household names (and major crushes) out of random Swedish actors, revived Alan Ball’s relevance, and provided spin-off potential for everything from soda to new versions of the books that the series is based on in the first place.

There are a number of reasons that “True Blood” is one of the best things to hit satellite tv in quite some time. First, it manages to appeal to people looking for very different things in an HBO series. Those who want the fantastic and the slightly gloomy will be really into the vampire back story as well as the crumbling Gothic southern homes being filmed expertly by Alan Ball. Fans of camp and kitsch will love the show’s funnier moments, with a fast-talking and truly sassy gay drug dealer stealing every scene he’s in, and markedly hilarious exchanges between midlevel vampires and higher-up sheriffs. “True Blood” is also one of those shows where those who need to swoon at romance can do so right next to partners who are more interested in gory fights or more racy scenes of romance.

BBC talks to Alexander Skarsgard: True Blood 'gets weird very fast'

Producers for the vampire show True Blood say season two picks up right where the first left off.

Expect to meet new shape-shifters, warlocks and other unclassified supernatural types. Apparently, "things get really, weird very fast".

Newsbeat entertainment reporter Chi Chi Izundu talks to one of the stars Alex Skarsgard.

His character, Eric, finds love this time round but in real life he says "he doesn't bite people".

True Blood season two starts at 10pm on Friday 26 February on digital channel FX.

Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer don't go in for "public displays of affection" on the set of True Blood, co-star Sam Trammell has revealed.

Oscar-winning actress Anna plays Sookie in the FX series, while British actor Steven plays her vampire love interest Bill - and the two are dating in real life.

Asked how the relationship has affected filming, Sam - who plays bar owner Sam Merlotte - said: "It doesn't feel like anything's changed because they're together."

He continued: "I guess they were seeing each other for a while without any of us knowing about it. And they're very professional, there's not many public displays of affection, they have separate trailers and they're really cool, they're just nice people and honestly it doesn't feel like a lot has changed."
