The 15 Most Groundbreaking Gay Roles on Television:Lafayette Reynolds on 'True Blood'

Thanks to creator Alan Ball's brilliant thinking, Bon Temps' most flashy short-order cook/V dealer is alive and well instead of dead in the back of Andy Bellefleur's car (his character's fate in Book Two of the Sookie Stackhouse novels). Although Lafayette embodies certain gay stereotypes (eyeliner, lipstick, jewelry, he prefers the ladies' room – "I is gorgeous"), he is easily one of the most trustworthy characters in a world filled with devious vampires, werewolves, maenads, shape-shifters and, most recently, a witch – the latter of whom just happens to be Lafayette's new boyfriend. Hookah, please!

‘True Blood’ too draining? Charlaine Harris says Sookie Stackhouse novels must end [updated]

 “Dead Reckoning,” the 11th installment in author Charlaine Harris‘ Sookie Stackhouse mystery series, is set to arrive this May — not long before the hit TV series inspired by the franchise, HBO’s “True Blood,” returns for a fourth season — but the novelist now is looking ahead to the conclusion of her long-running saga. [FOR THE RECORD: An earlier version of this post misstated the numeric place of  "Dead Reckoning" in the Harris series.]

“Truthfully, the next two books will probably be the last two books in the series,” Harris said last week. “I still love Sookie, but I’m beginning to want to write something else, and Sookie’s kind of taken over my life. I was able to write other things for the first few years I was involved in Sookie, but then after the start of the television show she took over so much of my time because of my increased publicity obligations that it’s been very hard to write other things, and I really need to do that.”

To satisfy her creative urges, Harris has embarked on a new endeavor, an online game called Dying for Daylight, that prominently features her vampire protagonist, Dahlia Lynley-Chivers, a ruthless, fashion-conscious vamp who has appeared in several of Harris’ short stories. “She’s one of my favorite characters,” Harris said. “Since HBO owns all the development rights to anything related to Sookie, Dahlia seemed a natural choice for this. She’s so visual, she’s so proud of the way she looks and she’s so adventuresome that it seemed like a really good match.”

Following up on a tip from an in-the-know reader, Eagle Rock Patch investigated a claim that one of the prime locations for the hit HBO series True Blood will go up in flames within the next few days.
While security and insurance concerns kept us from traipsing onto the set proper, a helpful security officer guarding the perimeter,  whose badge identified him as A. Cole, was forthcoming with information concerning the fiery demolition of the cottages located at 5038 Ellenwood Dr., just south of Colorado Boulevard.
Apparently, the owner of the property—built in 1922—has figured out a lucrative way to clear it while profiting from location fees. No word as to what will be built on the location.

Remake 'Let Me In' is among the better vampire movies

At this point, there are so many vampires populating big and small screens that the multitude of award shows should start adding categories like "the best exsanguination scene" or "most passionate kiss by two dead people."
But if you're susceptible to the toothy creatures, then Let Me In, from American writer-director Matt Reeves, is an admirable, even elegant remake of 2008 Swedish horror film Let the Right One.
Reeves — known as the co-creator of the TV show Felicity and director of the horror film Cloverfield — has made some changes to the story, which was based on a novel by Swedish writer John Ajvide Lindqvist. Reeves moved the setting from a working-class suburb of Stockholm to 1983 Los Alamos, N.M., the home of the atomic bomb.
The story centers on the relationship between a 12-year-old boy named Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee of The Road) and an androgynous girl called Abby (Chloë Grace Moretz of Kick-Ass). Like the book, Reeves' film goes beyond supernatural themes and deals with the topics of faith, bullying and the loneliness of being an adolescent.
Owen and Abby are in their own ways outcasts with issues. He, picked on and missing his father, acts out violent fantasies in his room and spies on the neighbors; Abby, as we come to understand, is trapped in her own nightmare. Yet Reeves manages to create a tenderness between them while supplying the expected jolts and eeriness.
The director also displays a crafty visual style, filled with shadows and light and a touch of humor. Add a couple of veteran actors in Richard Jordan and Elias Koteas, and you have a smart little film.
Let Me In retails for $29.98 or $39.99 Blu-ray.

True Blood: Charlaine Harris speaks

SFX’s True Blood/Vampires special is currently brightening up your local newsagents – and True Blood season three is currently airing on FX. So we don’t need any further excuses to reprint this interview with Sookie Stackhouse creator Charlaine Harris, which originally appeared in our last vampire special, out in May…

SFX: When True Blood first came out, you told us you were “90 per cent happy with it”. Would you stick by that figure now, or are you more or less happy with the show?
Charlaine Harris: Oh, I’m delighted with the programme. I couldn’t be happier with it, really!
SFX: How much input do you have into the storylines of the TV series?
CH: My input consists of having written the original books that the stories are taken from.
SFX: So they don’t run things past you?
CH: No, they know how to run their show and I know how to write my books.

Comcast app allows for streaming True Blood on-demand to iPads!

Comcast on Wednesday updated its iPad app to allow customers to stream on-demand TV shows and movies to the Apple tablet.
Comcast subscribers with an iPad and the Comcast app can now access about 3,000 hours of content from Comcast's on-demand network at no extra charge. That includes movies and TV shows from HBO, Showtime, Starz, Encore, Cinemax and MoviePlex as well as TV shows from TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, and BBC America. Selections include "True Blood," "Dexter" and "Boardwalk Empire," as well as movies like "The Hangover," "An Education," and "The Blind Side," Comcast said.
The feature is available over Wi-Fi, with a 3G option coming in a future app update, Comcast said.
"Our focus for this first version of video streaming was to take advantage of the larger screen and mobile capability of the iPad, and deliver an immersive video experience," Matt Strauss, senior vice president and general manager of Comcast Interactive Media, wrote in a blog post. "We have many enhancements and feature updates planned for the coming months, and we'll also continue to evolve the video streaming feature based on customer feedback, including extending it to more handheld devices and platforms."

True Blood's James Frain wants to swap vampire tips with Robert Pattinson

BRITISH actor James Frain, who has arrived in True Blood's Bon Temps as bloodsucking baddie Franklin Mott, says he wants to swap vampire tips with Twilight's Robert Pattinson.
Frain appears alongside Pattinson in the upcoming film adaptation of circus tale Water For Elephants.
But he regrets that they didn't get chance to talk about their more toothy roles.
Frain says: "I did have scenes with Robert in Water for Elephants but I'm sorry to say we didn't swap vampire stories. I wish we had, people can't believe there's going to be a scene in the movie with a Twilight vampire talking to a True Blood vampire and that we didn't spend our time chatting about that.

The True Blood workout: P90x

Ever wonder what it’s like to be surrounded by hot-looking guys wearing next-to-nothing or nothing at all? Alright, calm down ladies. I’m talking about Kevin Alejandro’s revelation to AccessHollywood that appearing on HBO’s True Blood comes with its own form of peer pressure.
Alejandro, who joined True Blood in Season Three as Jesus Velasquez, revealed, “I’m sharing the screen with somebody like Ryan Kwanten. We all look within ourselves for inspiration [to lose weight, get fit] but he’s obviously the poster boy of a physique.”
Fortunately for Alejandro, he’s not the only one who wants to look good so he was able to join a few other cast-members in a P90X workout regime. P90X stands for Power 90 Extreme and consists of a segmented training program that’s supposed to improve physical fitness in 90 days.

In my twisted little daydream, I will pick his brain with every single question that’s bugged me, intrigued me, had me lying awake at 1am or reduced me to a screeching, profanity-spewing mess over the last three years.

Paleyfest 2011 is next month, and the True Blood Panel will be held on Saturday, March 5. The panel is yet to be officially confirmed, but questions for Ball, the writers and the cast are now being taken on the Paley Centre site.

Ball and the cast usually drop some sweet spoilers at this event – it was at Paley in 2009 that Alan Ball first confirmed that Eric would have amnesia in season 4, that we would definitely be seeing Alcide in season 3…and uttered the infamous statement about Bill and Sookie having “a connection that would never die.”
