True Blood and the new HBO Go app for phones and iPads !

HBO has now joined the ranks of media companies offering streaming content direct to the iPad. Today, the new HBO Go app was released, which will allow HBO subscribers to watch their favorite shows and movies wherever they happen to be. It’s a free service provided to HBO subscribers, and will work on WiFi or 3G connections.
If you happen to be an HBO subscriber, you will now have access to all original HBO content plus movies on demand. Sadly, if you’re not a subscriber to cable and the additional HBO channels, you won’t be able to use this app. As of now, HBO does not offer an à la carte option like Netflix.
HBO’s content is unmatched, with shows such as True Blood, Entourage, Boardwalk Empire, The Wire, Six Feet Under, and the Sopranos. Plus HBO is always introducing the next great show – have you checked out their latest offering, Game of Thrones, yet? If you don’t subscribe, you may be interested now that you get so much more with your subscription fees. Did I mention that you’re not limited to current shows? That’s right, you can check out back episodes from shows that are no longer being produced.
In addition to shows and movies, HBO Go subscribers can access bonus features and behind the scene extras. The app also offers a customizable Watchlist that allows you to queue up shows you want to watch, and a Series Pass will automatically add shows that you want to follow in to your Watchlist.

Aw, Sookie, Sookie Now: An Interview with Charlaine Harris

Charlaine Harris is a happy woman. She has every reason to be with the popularity of her Sookie Stackhouse adventure novels being boosted by True Blood, the successful HBO television series based on her characters. Chatting with Art Attack in anticipation of her upcoming reading and Author Luncheon event with Murder by the Book, Harris is bubbly and vivacious. "I kid you not," she laughs, "I am as happy as I can be!"
While many authors complain about television and film treatments of their books (who can forget Anne Rice famously bashing Tom Cruise when he was cast in An Interview with a Vampire). Harris, however, has wholeheartedly embraced the show. "I'd be a fool to be anything but delighted," she says, her signature southern drawl stretching out the words. "Not only have I enjoyed the process and learned a lot but my sales have escalated. Even if it wasn't a great show, I'd be happy about it, but it is a great show so I can be proud of it."

Sookie Ebook : Nook Color now lets authors sign e-books

I don't know if Charlaine's upcoming appearances at Barnes and Nobles will be setup where she can sign your Sookie eBook but you might want to call the store and ask.
Here is her schedule with store phone numbers.

Lovers of literature know that having a book signed by a favorite author is something truly special. How do you sign an e-book though? Hopefully not with ballpoint.
Barnes & Noble is set to debut a new feature for the Android-equipped Nook Color e-reader that lets authors digitally sign their e-books using a stylus.
Writer and illustrator Sandra Boynton will be one of the first authors to host an e-book signing, and it's scheduled for Barnes & Noble's Upper East Side store in New York City (7 p.m. on Monday, May 2). The event will promote the digital version of her classic children's book "The Going to Bed Book." (In keeping with the book's theme, Boynton suggests both adults and children arrive in their pajamas; I'll be the one in the "Brilliant!" Guinness flannels.)
Other e-readers, such as the Sony Reader, already make it possible to write on pages. There is also a company named Autography that carries a patent for "inserting an autograph or other salutation into an e-book."
Despite the existing technology, though, the phrase "e-book signing" hasn't hit the mainstream. It's an interesting play from Barnes & Noble, a company that's redefining itself as paperback sales continue to dwindle due to increased competition from Amazon's Kindle.
A representative for Boynton also confirmed that B&N is looking to expand the option to other e-books in the future. Hopefully marathon book-signing sessions with a stylus will be less carpal-tunnel inducing than those conducted with a pen.

Charlaine Harris is in the house! Girls in the Stacks interview

You were quoted recently in the LA Times as saying the next two books will probably be the last two books in the Sookie series.  Has the story traveled where you thought it would?  Have the characters ever surprised you?  Did you plan to have this many Sookie books?
Yes, I’ve had a scene from the last book written in my head for years. Of course, I always have new ideas about the characters. That’s the fun part of writing. I never imagined the series would go on for so long.
We heard rumors that Alan Ball let slip that you were thinking of killing Bill, but you didn’t.  If this statement is true, what changed your mind?
Alan did let it slip. I had never said anything publicly because I knew I would have to answer a lot of questions. Actually, during the scene in the hospital when the fairies are coming to kill everyone inside, I wrote a great death scene for Bill because I love to write grand death scenes. But when I thought about it, I wanted to keep Bill around because I like him. My editor weighed in on Bill’s survival, too.
I think that worked out for the best . . . but now I have to answer a lot more questions!

SavvySugar: What's your typical day like?
Charlaine Harris: I hardly have a daily routine any more because of the increased demands on my time. However, on an ideal day I’m in my office by eight. I write six pages, finishing by early afternoon, and then I deal with other matters until three thirty or four o’clock, when I read for a while before starting supper.

Blood-Inspired Perfume Piques Vampire Curiosity

A new blood-inspired perfume may soon have an ideal group of early adopters: vampires.

Last week, a pair of Italian entrepreneurs, Antonio Zuddas and Giovanni Castelli, debuted Blood Concept, a provocative fragrance line based on the four major human blood types: A, B, AB and O.

While the line forgoes incorporating actual blood, the Italian duo nonetheless claim that each scent is evocative of the blood type it represents.

Asked and Answered | Deborah Ann Woll

The young actress Deborah Ann Woll cut her teeth — err, fangs — as the innocent Christian turned insidious vampire Jessica Hamby on HBO’s “True Blood” (Season 4 starts in June). Woll, 26, hails from Brooklyn but currently lives in Los Angeles, where she recently completed filming on “Someday This Pain Will Be Useful To You,” a coming-of-age story based on a teenage novel of the same name by Peter Cameron. The Moment recently e-mailed Woll to talk work (vampires, snakes) and play (home improvement and carpentry).
