Vampire Forensics - order new book today!

Mark Jenkins’s engrossing history draws on the latest science, anthropological and archaeological research to explore the origins of vampire stories, providing gripping historic and folkloric context for the concept of immortal beings who defy death by feeding on the lifeblood of others. From the earliest whispers of eternal evil in ancient Mesopotamia, Greece, and Rome, vampire tales flourished through the centuries and around the globe, fueled by superstition, sexual mystery, fear of disease and death, and the nagging anxiety that demons lurk everywhere.

In Vampire Forensics, Mark Jenkins probes vampire legend to tease out the historical truths enshrined in the tales of terror: sherds of Persian pottery depicting blood-sucking demons; the amazing recent discovery by National Geographic archaeologist Matteo Borrini of a 16th-century Venetian grave of a plague victim and suspected vampire; and the Transylvanian castle of "Vlad the Impaler," whose bloodthirsty cruelty remains unsurpassed.

Jenkins navigates centuries of lore and legend, adding new chapters to the chronicle and weaving an irresistibly seductive blend of superstition, psychology, and science sure to engross everyone from Anne Rice’s countless readers to serious students of archaeology and mythology.

Unpopular Vampires and Me

Let's face it, the world has been taken over by vampires.

At least, that's what people are saying. Little do they realize, vampires have been an enormous part of our world for a very long time -- my entire life, for certain. Growing up, I watched them on TV...

More Season 3 spoilers from Ausiello

Question: Any new spoilers for season 3 of True Blood? —Heather
Ausiello: Carrie Preston hints that “something very unexpected is going to happen with her character Arlene… [She] might just be nervous enough about the supernatural characters around her that she will try to do something about it. I think she is going to try to figure out a way to protect herself. She gets very upset. She doesn’t think vampires should be around children.”

Question: What’s Jason going to be up to on True Blood this season (aside from taking his shirt off, of course)? —Nick
Ausiello: “He finally discovers the long lost art of love,” reveals his portrayer, Ryan Kwanten. “Well, at least his version of. It gets him into more trouble that he expected. He’s also dealing with the fact that he committed a small crime in that he killed [Eggs].” What’s been his biggest acting challenge so far this season? “I start the season in bed with two girls,” he says. “Not that I couldn’t do it, but a challenge? Sure.”

'True Blood' gets "unexpected" plot twist

From Digital Spy

True Blood star Carrie Preston has revealed that an "unexpected" twist lies ahead for her character.

The actress, who plays Arlene Fowler on the HBO vampire drama, said that the upcoming third season sees her alter ego go to extreme lengths to protect her family.

"Something very unexpected is going to happen with Arlene," she told Entertainment Weekly. "[She] might just be nervous enough about the supernatural characters around her that she will try to do something about it."

She added: "I think she is going to try to figure out a way to protect herself. She gets very upset. She doesn't think vampires should be around children."

True Blood returns for its third series later this year in the US. Season two begins Friday, February 26 on FX in the UK.

'The Romantics': Anna Paquin and Katie Holmes are old girlfriends, at war over old boyfriend

Here's the plot, in movie algebra terms:

(Anna Paquin + Josh Duhamel) / Katie Holmes X (Malin Ackerman, Elijah Wood, Adam Brody, Dianna Agron, Jeremy Strong, and Rebecca Lawrence)

Translation: Katie Holmes will steal your man, Anna Paquin. Watch out! And your other friends are hooking up with each other, too!

The Romantics premiered Wednesday, and I think has potential to be one of the festival's breakouts.

Exclusive Denis O'Hare Interview on Edge of Darkness and True Blood

...At the premiere I also had to ask O'Hare about a project he's currently working on: True Blood. Okay, so 'had to' is a stretch... I'm a True Blood fan and getting to talk to the actor who's playing the Vampire King of Mississippi was more fun that work. He's filmed two episodes already, including one with Vampire Bill (played by Stephen Moyer). "[...]I had this great scene recently with Vampire Bill and it was a scene between two people talking about the people that they love, and what you do with that love. Because my boyfriend in the thing is 700 years old...I'm 2300 years old and we've been together for 700 years. And I have this great line where I say, 'Spend eternity together - that's commitment.' But, you know, the script is deep. It's not just frivolous, and I love that about it." Read/watch the interview...
