9-year-old filmmaker invited to play N.J. film festival at Rutgers

NEW BRUNSWICK -- Unlike many 9-year-olds, Fanwood's Emma Kenney wasn't content to just watch a vampire movie. She wanted to write and direct a film about the mythological creature, too.

Emma's cinematic undertaking didn't surprise those who know her. She's been interested in acting and the arts from a very young age.

But when her film "The New Girl in Town" was selected to play in the New Jersey International Film Festival at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, friends and family gave her more credibility.

"I was shocked," said Emma's mother, Gillian Fisher. "When we found out she was accepted, I sent an e-mail asking if this was correct. I didn't want to tell her if it was a mistake."
