Vampire-Con August in Los Angeles

Stock up on your garlic, wooden stakes, crucifixes, and holy water filled squirt guns before mid-August, when Vampire-Con will decend upon the New Beverly Cinema and the Music Box Theatre with assorted screenings, balls, and other related events.

For the vampire weary, avoid the following:

  • On the evenings of August 14th & 15th at the New Beverly Cinema, screenings of “Count Yourga, Vampire” (1970), “The Lost Boys” (1987), a sneak peek of “Midnight Son” (2009), “The Hunger” (1983), and a yet to be name 70s lesbian vampire flick.
  • From 10:30am t0 5:00pm, within the darkened confines of the Music Box Theatre, panel discussions on: comic book legend Vampirella; the history of the undead (moderated by Hollywood Gothtique’s Steve Biodrowski with author David J. Skal); and on vampires and sexuality.
  • And on the evening of the 16th, again at the Music Box, Vampirella’s Ball, and 18 and over event which carries an unusual restriction: “Any person under the age of 21 will not be admitted if wearing / carrying masks or any clothing / costume that covers the wrists.” (emphasis mine – anyone care to explain? Does the site of covered wrists turn vampires into frenzy?)

For tickets and further info check out the Vampire-Con website (which can’t be seen through a mirror, by the way – yes, we checked.)

Under-21s will probably have their wrists stamped or have to wear a wristband to mark them as underage (a typical club thing) which would explain the limitation on their costume.
