Battle of the Un-dead: True Blood vs. Being Human

Remember in the UK TB is in season 1

It does not happen very often, except perhaps with Police Drama’s: twoTV shows manage to come up with virtually the same concept independently, and both excute it with a fair degree of innovation and quality.

Unless you have been hiding under a rock living in Australia) you will know about True Blood, the R rated TV Series currently airing in the US on HBO. Its premise is that Vampires have ‘come out’, and while society is dealing with the new and dangerous cultural aspects of it, political forces on both sides are trying to take advantage of the perceived power vacuums.

It is all set in a sleepy Louisiana town that manages to lose a few people each week, yet still seems to attract newcomers. No warning at the city limits that the death rate in the town has skyrocketed recently to ten times the national average. Well, you do have to put aside a fair bit of unbelief to watch any fantasy/fiction show. The main characters live or work around the town or at the local bar. Though the vampire would be the logical choice to work in the bar, he doesn’t.

Only UK viewers may be familiar with Being Human. It follows the story of three housemates, a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost living in the city of Bristol, UK. While vampires are still undercover, the political scene is shifting rapidly towards vampocalypse. The housemates deal with their various curses with intelligence, wit and a fair amount of girlish screaming. Two of the housemates work at the local hospital, while the ghost stays home and makes tea.

Stupid arrogant Brits. What do they mean ‘hiding in Australia’?! They take every opportunity they can to say nasty things about us.
Hey – we got True Blood a full year before they did!!

Comparing True Blood to Being Human is two separate entities. They do not co-exist on the same plane. I agree with one thing-both shows have amazing music.
To insinuate and state that TB does not delve into moral issues means one has not really watched or understood the show.

layla the Brits are VERY new to True blood so cut the author some slack.

I know the Brits are new to TB. I watch both shows. They each have different things to offer. The author sounded as though their mind was made up. However, I remember last year when certain television (not all) critic's were not on the TB bandwagon and the show got some lousy reviews. Obviously, it changed at the start of S2.

TB is not seen by that many people on FX UK. It will start on network TV in the UK on Channel 4 in October, when it will really start to gain attention from a large audience over there. TB is entirely different from Being Human - like apples and oranges, hard to compare. But I will - TB is way better!
