Hey Dallas!
After reading Sookie and the BDB, I stumbled upon Almost Human by Melanie Nowak.
She's a self-published author. The books are very detailed and you quickly begin to care about the characters (even some of the bad ones).

I love Dark Lover and all the other Black Dagger Brotherhood books, except #5 wasn't as good. I've read all of them and have all except 5 (Phury's story) on audio as well. I'll have to check out the other two series.
Chloe Neill's series is new. The first book came out last April and the 2nd book, Friday Night Bites was released in October 2009.
The series is fresh and the main character simply rocks. The supporting characters are really really fabulous too. Mallory, a supporting character is great:)
