Episode #30- 3.06 "I Got a Right to Sing the Blues":
Spurned by Eric, Sookie fears the worst for Bill, whose fate now lies in Lorena's hands. Jason's romance with Crystal hits a snag, as does Lafayette's with Jesus. Fueled by a night of passion, Tara executes a desperate plan to stave off Franklin's advances. Vampires vs. werewolves: Race and rivalry

We all know that the sustaining love triangle in the Twilight series isn't just about two boys who want one girl--it's about a vampire and a werewolf, (im)mortal enemies, fighting over a human. If Stephenie Meyers' books haven't hammered that antagonism into your head already, then look no further than every other piece of supernatural lore: Vampires and werewolves don't get along. It's bloodlust versus peacekeeping. It's the dead grappling with the living.
And, apparently, it's a matter of race and class.
For the sake of argument, I'll be looking at the two most popular series/shows about vampires, werewolves, and all manner of creepy creatures: Twilight and True Blood. These two shows, though not the majority, have dictated many people's current views of the vampire and werewolf archetypes.

Vampires, werewolfs and shape-shifters, in Jackson?

Who knew? Jackson is apparently the werewolf capital of the region and is home to the oldest werewolf bar in the area.
That is, in the fictional land of vampires, shape-shifters, mind readers and now werewolves in the HBO series “True Blood,” based on the Southern Vampire Mysteries Series of novels by Charlaine Harris.
In previous “True Blood” seasons, the action has been located in Louisiana, but this season the action is spreading beyond the borders of fictional Bon Temps to sites throughout Mississippi, including Jackson.
It seems there’s a battle for vampire supremacy brewing between the Mississippi faction, led by vampire king Russell Edgington (Denis O’Hare), and the Louisiana faction, led by vampire queen Sophie-Anne Leclerq (Evan Rachel Wood).

Live from Comic Con: A chat with author Charlaine Harris

Charlaine Harris is just sweet and lovely and everything you would hope that the author of one of the most popular vampire book series of all time would be. Geek Girl on the Street was lucky enough to be on an intimate press round table who chatted with the Sookie Stackhouse/Southern Vampire Series author this afternoon. Here is part of that conversation, my questions are in purple:

How do you know you’re born to be a writer?
Oh boy, I’ve wrestled with this inside myself, because people do ask me for writing advice. I think that if you want to write from the time that you start reading, you are born a writer. That’s not all there is to it, the desire is not enough, you have to be able to have the discipline. It’s like being a great singer, but not going through the classes or the training to make your voice as good as it can be – if you really want to write, you’ve got to read everything you can, everything-everything. You’ve got to put in your ground work and then you can start to write. You have to accept that fact that what you write for the first few years is going to be crap, you’re going to have to throw it out. It’s just getting the basics down, like if you wanted to be a singer, you wouldn’t be able to do Wagner if you hadn’t done your training. You can’t go for the big stuff until you’ve put in your work.

    another tidbit from this weekend

    Charlaine said:
–Book 11: She says she’s kind of looking forward to finishing Sookie’s story. Still no name for book No. 11, but she’s just about to finish it. “Maybe even tomorrow (Sunday),” she said.
