Obama a fan of Louisiana Mysteries ?? " The Bayou Trilogy " on his vacation reading list !

The New York Times this morning ran an article entitled "Obama Summer Reading List Leans Toward Fiction " HERE and it talked about what books President Obama had taken with him on his vacation and I found his choice of  " The Bayou Trilogy " an interesting choice and wondered if he loves Louisiana based mysteries,  if he might be a fan of True Blood ? Or maybe Michelle is?  Ha!

Starred Review. Collected in a single volume for the first time, Woodrell's three stellar novels featuring Det. Rene Shade, an ex-boxer turned cop, provide entrée into the Louisiana swamp town of Saint Bruno, a place where "tempers went on the prowl and relief was driving a hard bargain." Woodrell (Winter's Bone) injects Shade's life and various cases with both humor and brutal violence. In Bright Lights (1986), the investigation into a city councilman's murder mushrooms into a corruption scandal, with Shade feeling pressure from above for a quick—and predetermined—result. Muscle for the Wing (1988) finds Shade up against a gang of ex-cons, hell-bent on wrestling control of Saint Bruno's less-than-legal action. Shade and his two brothers—bar owner Tip and district attorney Francois—are reunited with their long-absent paterfamilias, John X., in The Ones You Do (1992), in which John X. returns to Saint Bruno with a 10-year-old daughter and a killer on his trail. There's poetry in Woodrell's mayhem, each novel—and scene—full of gritty and memorable Cajun details.

Big Patty's 7 Layer Jello Pie

This is a fun, easy to make snack that everyone in the family will love.
To make, you will need:Four 6oz packages of Jello (I prefer red, green, yellow, and orange)13x9x2 pan or pyrex dish For white layers in between the colored layers:

2 packages of plain gelatin
Four 1/2 cup of cold water (one 1/2 cup for each pack of Jello)
2 cups of sour cream
2 cups of milk
4 cups hot water (one cup for each pack of Jello)
1 cup sugar
2 tsp. vanilla

To Make:
1) Dissolve your first color jello into 1 cup of boiling water, add 1/2 cup cold water, then pour into your dish.
2) Dissolve both envelopes of unflavored gelatin into a 1/2 cup of boiling water.
3) In a large saucepan brink milk to boil.
4) Remove pan of milk from heat and add sugar, mixing until dissolved.
5) Add the dissolved unflavored gelatin into the milk and sugar mix.
6) In a mixer, mix with sour cream and vanilla. Mix until even, then set aside to let cool.
7) Once the first layer is set, pour 1 1/2 cups of the white layer over the first layer of Jello.
8) Once the white layer sets and becomes sticky to touch, repeat step one with another layer of Jello.
9) Repeat steps 1 and 7 until you finish the fourth layer of Jello. Place into fridge and let chill for 2 hours.
10) Slice the Jello into 2 x 1 inch bars and enjoy!

** in other recipes you can also do this with 4 different flavors of jello too...

EW drops a Bill and Sookie scene hint

Did we always have so many people screening TB episodes so late in the season ? what's upi with this ? I know everyone gets screener dvds of the first 3 eps but why do so many folks know whats the scenes will be in Ep9 ?

Any good Bill/Sookie scenes coming up? ~ Chris
All I can say is that you will like the scene near the beginning of Sunday’s episode very very much. Like, VERY much. And to bookend your joy, there’s a moment at the end where Sookie makes a grand gesture of — what some could say — are lingering feelings. Others might just say girl likes drama!
