Vampires Beware: Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Owns the World’s Largest Collection of Authentic Vampire Killing Kits
Ripley’s Believe It or Not! has the world’s largest collection of authentic vampire killing kits. The kits were acquired by people in preparation of possibly meeting a vampire during their international travels to Eastern Europe and their usage dates back to the mid-1800s. Most were created in the Boston area and were available by mail order. They contain a variety of items designed to bring a vampire to its knees. Most contain a wooden stake, Bible, crucifix, pistol with lead bullets, gunpowder, garlic and glass vials that held various concoctions.
The kits were purchased by wealthy Americans headed to Eastern Europe – Transylvania then, Romania now. Travelers brought back terrifying tales of vampires with them from the region – well before Dracula was brought to life by Bram Stoker.

Eric's sidekick Pam on "True Blood" is getting a promotion.
Eric's sidekick Pam on "True Blood" is getting a promotion.
Kristin Bauer, who plays blonde vampire Pam, Eric's (Alexander Skarsgard) wingwoman at vampire bar Fangtasia, has been promoted to regular on the HBO series.
Bauer had guest starred on Alan Ball's vampire drama for the first two seasons, appearing in a total of 11 episodes.
Ball recently hinted that may have a meaty story line in store for Pam for Season 3 when she may get into a lesbian relationship.
Bauer, who most recently co-starred on the CBS drama pilot "House Rules," is repped by the Paul Kohner Agency and Kritzer/Levine/Wilkins/Griffin.
It's a busy casting time at "True Blood," which started production on the third season last week.
Denis O'Hare and Marshall Allman have been tapped as new regulars and Theo Alexander and Grant Bowler as recurring, with a slew of other roles yet to be cast.

Depp, Burton Team for 'Dark Shadows' Feature film version of the classic 1960s soap opera to begin filming next year
Tim Burton and actor Johnny Depp will team for a feature film version of the classic 1960s soap opera "Dark Shadows." The film will shoot in the fall, with Depp set to play the vampire Barnabas Collins, according to producer Graham King. "We're actually going to shoot that film next September/October with Tim Burton and Johnny," King confirmed in an interview Friday in Los Angeles. To guarantee a fall release, King is already prepping production with screenwriters. "We've been working on the script a lot, even though he's working on 'Alice,'" King said. "We've been given a script. John August wrote the first screenplay. We're making some changes, but the film's going to be in production ..." From 1966 to 1971, "Dark Shadows" was a daytime gothic soap opera on ABC, featuring Jonathan Frid as Collins. NBC attempted a prime-time series reboot in 1991 that stared Ben Cross. King promised that "Dark Shadows" will have something new to say in the post-"Twilight" world of emo vampires. "This is going to be Tim Burton and Johnny doing a vampire movie, right?" King said.

Digging Up All the Old Vampire Jokes
“Transylmania,” a vampire-hunter, college road trip sex comedy, has a problem: someone has drained all the laughs out of it. It’s destined to spend a short and painful life in theaters and then join the ranks of the DVD and late-night-cable undead.
The directors David and Scott Hillenbrand, who were responsible for the National Lampoon “Dorm Daze” movies, and the screenwriters Patrick Casey and Joshua Miller (known as Worm Miller) have stuffed this cabbage with doltish and buxom students, sadistic dwarfs, severed heads, serial vomiting, sheep testicles, a priest with Tourette’s syndrome and horse flatulence. (That’s a “Young Frankenstein” homage: the horses let loose whenever someone says the name of the Transylvanian university where the action is set.) The Romanian vampires and the actors playing the American undergrads are both, in their own ways, long in the tooth.
