HBO has launched its first TV campaign dedicated entirely to Blu-ray Disc, covering such new release and catalog titles as True Blood, Band of Brothers and John Adams. The channel wants to communicate the expansiveness of its library of Blu-ray content as many consumers buy or receive Blu-ray players during the holidays. HBO’s TV spots will run through Christmas. The ads are running on male-centric shows and networks, including during NFL games on Fox and NBC, and on channels ESPN, Spike, G4, FX and others. In the spot, a man is concentrating on watching Blu-ray content as some sort of angry beast has torn up his apartment. The tagline is “Unleash HBO on Blu-ray.” “We traditionally advertise HBO DVD titles in the fourth quarter to promote top-of-mind awareness during the holiday retail period,” said Meredith Vincent, VP of marketing at HBO. “This year we have shifted our holiday campaign focus to Blu-ray. Our goal is to build awareness for HBO on Blu-ray, and specifically for shows like True Blood, Band of Brothers, Rome and John Adams.” Overall, TV on Blu-ray is proving a slower sell at retail than relatively cheaper-priced high-definition films. However, HBO is having success in the category with its audiences demanding the top-quality product, said Vincent. Many HBO shows feature particularly cinematic TV imagery, which is best shown in Blu-ray. “Where possible we provide the consumer with more than enhanced picture and sound—we provide robust, immersive content that allows the fan and Blu-ray buyer to dive deeper into the program they love,” she said. To boost the allure of Blu-ray, HBO does try to pack in exclusive extras into its titles. For example, the first season of True Blood includes a separate viewing mode that gives fresh insights into the story line from certain characters, as well as offers hints to future plots. Blu-ray for $27 bucks !

Sookie Stackhouse Book 10: Dead in the Family 1st Chapter to be released in the next 10 days!
TES writes.... Morning, D! I checked CH's site and she posted this earlier today under the, "Questions About the Sookie Stackhouse Series" topic:7419 duckpond100 2009-12-09 06:28
What question?
Oh, you mean the one WAY, WAY back? You know you're going to have to wait until the next book to find out more about Sookie's reaction to the marriage. And I'll put up the begining of the next book within the next week and a half. The question about the timing of the next book is harder to answer, since the first pages of it skip over several weeks, hitting down every now and then.
Charlaine Harris
So only another 1.5 weeks to go...hopefully, the cover art will also be released around the same time. :D

Vampires Beware: Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Owns the World’s Largest Collection of Authentic Vampire Killing Kits
Ripley’s Believe It or Not! has the world’s largest collection of authentic vampire killing kits. The kits were acquired by people in preparation of possibly meeting a vampire during their international travels to Eastern Europe and their usage dates back to the mid-1800s. Most were created in the Boston area and were available by mail order. They contain a variety of items designed to bring a vampire to its knees. Most contain a wooden stake, Bible, crucifix, pistol with lead bullets, gunpowder, garlic and glass vials that held various concoctions.
The kits were purchased by wealthy Americans headed to Eastern Europe – Transylvania then, Romania now. Travelers brought back terrifying tales of vampires with them from the region – well before Dracula was brought to life by Bram Stoker.

Eric's sidekick Pam on "True Blood" is getting a promotion.
Eric's sidekick Pam on "True Blood" is getting a promotion.
Kristin Bauer, who plays blonde vampire Pam, Eric's (Alexander Skarsgard) wingwoman at vampire bar Fangtasia, has been promoted to regular on the HBO series.
Bauer had guest starred on Alan Ball's vampire drama for the first two seasons, appearing in a total of 11 episodes.
Ball recently hinted that may have a meaty story line in store for Pam for Season 3 when she may get into a lesbian relationship.
Bauer, who most recently co-starred on the CBS drama pilot "House Rules," is repped by the Paul Kohner Agency and Kritzer/Levine/Wilkins/Griffin.
It's a busy casting time at "True Blood," which started production on the third season last week.
Denis O'Hare and Marshall Allman have been tapped as new regulars and Theo Alexander and Grant Bowler as recurring, with a slew of other roles yet to be cast.

Depp, Burton Team for 'Dark Shadows' Feature film version of the classic 1960s soap opera to begin filming next year
Tim Burton and actor Johnny Depp will team for a feature film version of the classic 1960s soap opera "Dark Shadows." The film will shoot in the fall, with Depp set to play the vampire Barnabas Collins, according to producer Graham King. "We're actually going to shoot that film next September/October with Tim Burton and Johnny," King confirmed in an interview Friday in Los Angeles. To guarantee a fall release, King is already prepping production with screenwriters. "We've been working on the script a lot, even though he's working on 'Alice,'" King said. "We've been given a script. John August wrote the first screenplay. We're making some changes, but the film's going to be in production ..." From 1966 to 1971, "Dark Shadows" was a daytime gothic soap opera on ABC, featuring Jonathan Frid as Collins. NBC attempted a prime-time series reboot in 1991 that stared Ben Cross. King promised that "Dark Shadows" will have something new to say in the post-"Twilight" world of emo vampires. "This is going to be Tim Burton and Johnny doing a vampire movie, right?" King said.
