Kevin Alejandro talks about doing TRUE BLOOD

Actor Kevin Alejandro stars as Detective Nate Moretta on the critically acclaimed cop drama Southland, which is a raw and authentic look at a police unit in Los Angeles. From the beaches of Malibu to the streets of East Los Angeles, the series, which airs on TNT, is a fast-moving drama that will take viewers inside the lives of cops, criminals, victims and their families.

Having also given memorable performances on Ugly Betty (as Justin's father Santos), Shark (as Danny Reyes, a street-smart, tough prosecutor specializing in organized crime) and Drive (as car thief Winston Salazar), Kevin Alejandro is currently filming a role in Season 3 of the hit television series True Blood, returning to HBO on June 13th.

In this exclusive interview with IESB, the actor talked about his love for the unpredictability of Southland, how much fun he's had working with the show's great ensemble and his very different role on the upcoming season True Blood.

True Blood season 3, female character to die (spoiler alert)

I do not believe for one minute Alan Ball is going to kill off Arlene ...she might leave Bon Temps with the kids and be absent some this year or just with most of the events happening in Jackson, we won't see much of her....the female character that will die WE ALL KNOW is Lorena and as Sookie says "I killed her ass"

HBO's hit vampire show 'True Blood' could possibly be losing a cast member. According to E! online's Kristin Dos Santos a female character is scheduled to bite the dust.

Sources tells Kristin that "a female character" will die in season 3. E! Also reports that Carrie Preston who plays Merlotte's red headed waitress Arlene has been cast for "multiple" episodes on CBS' 'The Good Wife.'

According to Ryan Kwanten who plays Sookie's big brother Jason Stackhouse season 3 is about "halfway through shooting the season." So, does this mean that Preston's character Arlene is the female death? No! fans of the show everywhere are shouting. Arlene brings a certain extra something to the show. But it seems to be a big possibility that Arlene could be the character who dies in season 3. If you're a 'True Blood' fans you're probably wondering what will happen to her two children. Could they possibly end up with Bill and Sookie?

It’s hard to get too involved in a cast of barely likable whiners and pathetic hand-wringers, but somehow that isn’t much of a problem in Jinks’ droll vampire send-up. These bloodsuckers are anything but sexy and mysterious, as here vampirism is a cross between a defining addiction and communicable disease; those infected spend most of their time being seriously ill and attending AA-style meetings with fellow sufferers. Nina, permanently arrested at 15 years old, can’t stand her fellow group members, but when one of them is found staked they all must work together to uncover the slayer before he can kill again. While readers might feel pushed rather than led through the plot, Jinks offers some wry vampire-centric twists on mystery conventions (having to repeatedly piece together what happened while literally dead to the world from sunup to sundown); and when the humor hits its mark, this can be laugh-out-loud funny. Most of the comedy, though, lies in the wide-angle skewering of support groups and fringe characters more suited to hemming and hawing than biting and sucking. Grades 8-12. --Ian Chipman

True Blood: freshly squeezed blood and Texas orange juice

I never really liked canned or bottled juices. They always seem to taste a bit too sweet for me. Orange juice is especially tricky: often it comes with additional, unwanted pith and peel flavors, which makes it bitter; and it either tastes like plastic or metal from the container. Not good.

HOLLY: A thirtysomething (presumably single) mother of two, Holly applies for a job at Merlotte’s and creeps Arlene out with her oddly prescient observations. Very strong recurring in season 3 with a possible series regular upgrade in season 4.

We first see Holly on pg 7 of Living Dead in Dallas when Lafayette's body is discovered in Andy's car.

Danielle Gray and Holly Cleary, the two waitresses on the morning shift, came through the back door laughing. Both divorced women in their mid-twenties, Danielle and Holly were lifelong friends who seemed to be quite happy working their jobs as long as they were together. Holly had a five-year-old son who was at kindergarten, and Danielle had a seven-year-old daughter and a boy too young for school, who stayed with Danielle's mother while Danielle was at Merlotte's. I would never be any closer to the two women—who, after all, were around my age—because they were careful to be sufficient unto themselves.
"What's the matter?" Danielle asked when she saw my face. Her own, narrow and freckled, became instantly worried.

"Why's Andy's car out front?" Holly asked. She'd dated Andy Bellefleur for a while, I recalled. Holly had short blond hair that hung around her face like wilted daisy petals, and the prettiest skin I'd ever seen. "He spend the night in it?"

Charlaine to visit University of Central Arkansas

New York Times bestselling author Charlaine Harris will hold a free lecture and book signing at the University of Central Arkansas's Reynolds Performance Hall on April 1 at 7:30 p.m.

Harris, a Mississippi native who now lives in southern Arkansas, writes the popular Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mysteries novels on which the HBO hit series "True Blood" is based.

The book signing will immediately follow the lecture.
Larry Burns, adviser of the UCA Student Government Association, which helped in bringing Harris to campus, said the author's lecture would be exciting for the UCA community.

"Many people in the UCA community, especially students, are fans of the Sookie Stackhouse series and 'True Blood' on HBO," Burns said. "Bringing Charlaine Harris is a great example of the SGA putting students first and providing an opportunity to meet and hear from a truly relevant and current author. Many students, staff and faculty are really excited to have Ms. Harris here on campus. She’s a great Arkansas author with a great series that is only growing in popularity."

Harris has been a published writer for 25 years. She began her career writing ghost stories and soon decided she wanted to start a series of books, according to her web site. Her first series, Real Murders, about a Georgia librarian, earned Harris an Agatha Award nomination. She also wrote the darker Lily Bard series that was based in Shakespeare, Ark.

Harris has gained most recognition for her Sookie Stackhouse series about a telepathic barmaid who befriends vampires and werewolves in the small Louisiana town of Bon Temps. The series has been published in Japan, Great Britain, Greece, Germany, Thailand, Spain, France and Russia. The HBO show 'True Blood', based on the series, begins its third season this year.

Harris is a member of the Mystery Writers of America and the American Crime Writers League. She is on the board of Sisters in Crime and alternates with Joan Hess as president of the Arkansas Mystery Writers Alliance.

Seating for the lecture is reserved. Two tickets per person may be picked up at the UCA Box Office, open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Reserved tickets may be picked up during those hours or between 6 and 7 p.m. on April 1. Tickets not picked up by 7 p.m. on April 1 will be released and given away. UCA students, faculty and staff must show IDs when picking up reserved tickets.
