The interminable wait is over and the lovable scamps of Bon Temps are back. After a third season full of werewolves, Nazis, and the fabulous Vampire King of Mississippi, True Blood is ready to hit us with the good stuff. Witches! A self-empowered Sookie! Bill and Eric making nice with humans! Hoyt and Jessica, shacking up! Tara's a lesbian named Toni, from Atlanta? A-Ball, you have our interest. Let's do this.
Don't Eat the Light Fruit
In Fairyland, where Sookie popped to in the season finale, every hour is magic hour and everyone's always happy and eating big, glowy peaches that look like they came from Ikea. It’s full of familiar faces. Look, there's Barry, the telepathic bellboy, accompanied by his fairy godfather, who appears to be wearing a macramé blouse. Who’s that, taking a big bite out of a light fruit? It's Sooks's twenty-years-gone Grandaddy — a pleasant surprise.

First Bite: “True Blood” 4.1: She’s Not There by Camp Blood
Again-- I am thrilled that the amazing Andy and Brian will be co hosting Talk Blood with me again this year !
Ah, True Blood. Though we’ve been apart for a while, when you sink your teeth into my smooth, swan-like neck it’s almost like you were never gone.
Andy and I are working on our full Blood Work! video recap of the premiere ep – which promises lots of fun surprises! – but in the meantime let’s chew on some of last night’s big moments, shall we?
- Queen Mab, harder and more often. Seriously, PLEASE let this woman be back every week – her performance was everything that television has been missing since they canceled The Charmings.
- Tara is taking a swim in Lake Lesbian, and I LOVE IT. I do miss her short hair, though.
- Mama Maxine and Li’l Mickens? How the heck did that one happen?
- Sam‘s My Little Pony dinner club? HILARIOUS.
- Marnie may be the first supervillain in history to be introduced on a bean-bag chair.
- Poor Peepaw Earl - we hardly knew ye!

'True Blood' Returns; Let's Run Down The Gaudiest Moments by Mark Blankenship
Critic Mark Blankenship has been writing about True Blood for quite some time, and in honor of the show's return, we've invited him to share his first Sucker Punch recap of the season here at Monkey See. You can find more of Mark's writing (including past Sucker Punches) already archived. Please be advised that this is an episode recap. That means that it will talk about what happened on the show, so "contains spoilers" should be obvious.
Welcome to Sucker Punch, the only blog post that finds the gaudiest moments on an episode of True Blood.
Before we dive into the Season 4 premiere, let me welcome the first-time readers of Sucker Punch, which is partly a recap of each episode and partly a hunt for the most outre moments in the series.

Stephen Moyer Got Bitten by the Acting Bug Young
![]() |
Stephen Moyer |
Moyer landed his delicious "True Blood" gig thanks to being unceremoniously dumped from another L.A. pilot he was hired on but never got to shoot. "We did the table read, and I'd been offered the part, and me and a bunch of other actors from that show got let go at the table read. It was incredibly depressing," confesses Moyer, who flew back to his London home defeated and vowed not return to pilot season, at least for that year. The casting directors of that pilot, however, had something else in mind.

Can witches beat vampires? The new season of ‘True Blood’ gets bewitched
Something wicked this way comes with the fourth season of “True Blood,” which premiered on HBO last night. In the season opener, she ventured from Bon Temps to meet her, um, fairy godmother, and it looks like she may be pursuing a romance with Eric, according to costar Stephen Moyer. (Watch a preview above.)
But an equally intriguing storyline has Lafayette flirting with his witch-like characteristics. Season 4, based loosely on Charlaine Harris’ soapy novel “Dead to the World,” brings more witches into the mix, and Sunday's premiere had Lafayette being persuaded by hunky boyfriend Jesus (Kevin Alejandro) to join a coven.
The Cheat Sheet: 'True Blood' Season 4
“I’d say the witches certainly pose the greatest threat to the vampires that we’ve seen yet,” executive producer Alexander Woo told the Hollywood Reporter.

Recaps of Episode 1 and 2 recaps from EW
Back for good (or evil)
Sookie returns from the fairy realm and learns life has moved on without her
The wait is over, and after all the footage HBO showed us in promos, including the first eight minutes of the season 4 premiere, we still got a few surprises: The biggest and best being that Sookie had been in the fairy realm -- a façade of silk, chiffon, and lace (like pastel week on Dancing With the Stars when every couple is doing the rumba) -- for a year and two weeks. Much has changed.Like America in every global disaster movie, Sookie was apparently the only one smart enough to figure out that the near-orgasmic “light fruit” being served in the fairy plane was a trap. She tried to warn Barry the Bellboy from season 2, another recent arrival, but he bit into the forbidden fruit before she could stop him. I hope he will be very happy with his fairy godmother Lloyd. I know I would be.
'True Blood' recap: The ties that bind
It sucks to be a Stackhouse right about now
Note: Because the July 3 episode of True Blood is available to HBO GO subscribers now, we are publishing our recap of the episode early. This is the episode fans of Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse novels -- and Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) acting human in True Blood's second season -- have been waiting for: amnesia has struck. But before we start fantasizing that Alan Ball will incorporate a certain shower scene from Harris' Dead to the World into his tale (or was Eric walking in on Sookie post-shower in the season premiere the only homage we'll get?), let's analyze the reality of our situation.

True Blood: Big Changes for Sookie and Her Supernatural Friends
As evidenced by True Blood's season 4 premiere Sunday night, a lot has changed since fans last saw Sookie Stackhouse and the residents of Bon Temps.
Sookie begins the episode in a glowing Eden-like fairyland that exists on an alternate plane and its own timeframe. There she meets her fairy godmother, Claudine – and runs into her grandfather, whom she hasn't seen in 20 years (though he thought it was only the day before). The idyllic scene quickly turns sinister when an evil fairy chases Sookie, who narrowly escapes back into her own,

The lusty vampires of Bon Temps bite again
Doll-eyed, Brooklyn-born beauty Deborah Ann Woll may be in her fourth year as newbie vampire Jessica on HBO’s wildly popular series “True Blood,” but the role doesn’t necessarily fit like a comfy pair of shoes.
“It’s been intense,” the 26-year-old Woll said recently about playing Jessica this season. “It’s asked me to try things I haven’t really done before, emotionally, physically and psychologically. It’s been really challenging, but great in that way.”
In its quest to show how supernatural powers wreak havoc on human nature, “True Blood” is nothing if not unpredictable. The show already has a dizzying repertory company of vampires, telepaths, shapeshifters, fairies and a werewolf. In this melange, Bible-thumping teenager Jessica’s transformation from Bill’s (Stephen Moyer) petulant vampire ward into a swoony yet feral bloodsucker has been one of the show’s more enjoyable character arcs.
