True Blood averages 12.4 million per episode across platforms in second season

TV by the number reports from Variety

The audience base for HBO’s red-hot vampire drama “True Blood” offers a good illustration of how viewing is changing.

According to HBO, the series’ sophomore season, which wrapped Sept. 13, averaged 12.4 million viewers per episode, when measured across various viewing platforms. But only 24% of those viewers came for the show’s premiere 9 p.m. Sunday telecasts.

Some 37% of “True Blood’s” true-blue fans caught reruns on HBO and its themed channels throughout the week, while 21% watched via DVR playback and 18% watched on the HBO on Demand platform. It’s telling that the percentage of on-demand viewing climbed significantly from the show’s first season, when it was 13%, while the rerun viewing dropped sharply, from 56% in season one.

My favorite Sookie Stackhouse books are 'Dead in Dixie' and Dead by Day " !

These are the Science Fiction Club editions of the first 5 Sookie books, you can still purchase them through the SFC website HERE

They are my favorites and my autographed copies sit on my desk!

Dead in Dixie

Dead Until Dark: Sookie Stackhouse is a cocktail waitress in Bons Temp, Louisiana. You can tell she doesn’t get out much, and it’s not because she isn’t pretty. She is. It’s just that, well, Sookie has this “disability:” she can read minds. And that doesn’t make her too dateable. Then along comes Bill. He’s tall, dark, handsome—and Sookie can’t hear a word he’s thinking. Just the guy she’s been waiting for all her life. But Bill has a disability of his own: he’s a vampire with a seriously creepy crowd of friends. So when one of her coworkers is killed, Sookie fears she’s next…. Living Dead in Dallas: Sookie is on a streak of bad luck. First, she finds a body in the backseat of her car. Then she comes face-to-face with a beastly creature that gives her a painful and poisonous lashing. Enter the vampires, who graciously suck the poison from her veins—like they didn’t enjoy it! Point is, they saved her life. So when one of them asks for a favor, she complies…and soon Sookie finds herself in Dallas, using her telepathic abilities to search for a missing vampire. There’s just one condition: the vamps must behave, and let the humans involved go unharmed. Which is easier said than done…. Club Dead: Sookie’s vampire boyfriend, Bill, has been a little distant lately. In another state, distant. He’s on a secret assignment for the vampire queen of Louisiana, and only his sinister and sexy boss Eric knows where to find him. Soon, Sookie is off to Jackson, Mississippi, to mingle with the über-underworld at Club Dead—a dangerous little haunt where werewolves, shapeshifters and vampires go to chill out and suck down some type O. But when Sookie finally finds Bill—caught in an act of serious betrayal—she’s not sure whether to save him…or sharpen some stakes. Warning: Explicit sex and language. Jacket art by Julie Bell. (612 pp.) 2001-2003. Exclusive 3-in-1 Hardcover Show...

Dead by Day

Sookie Stackhouse is a smart, savvy waitress in a small Southern town. Her ability to read minds gives humans the creeps. So her old boyfriend, Bill, seems perfect for her: since vampires are dead, Sookie can’t read their minds. At last, she’s with a man who might surprise her. But when the pair breaks up, Sookie hopes she can go back to her uneventful, pre-vamp existence. As if. In Dead to the World, Sookie starts the New Year off with a bang by finding Bill’s “boss,” vampire Eric, running half-naked through the woods. Seems someone stole mighty Eric’s memory—and dropped the gorgeous and now vulnerable vampire right into Sookie’s lap. Eric might end up the only friend Sookie’s got, especially after her brother, Jason, goes missing—and a bloody footprint is found behind his house. Before she can say “Boo!”, Sookie finds herself in the middle of the most violent, bloody turf war that vampires, witches and werewolves have ever known…. In Dead As A Doornail, somebody is gunning for the two-natured, and if Sookie gets in the way, so much the better. Shifters are going down, and her brother, Jason, is a suspect. A wicked new vampire named Mickey has his lethal sights set on Sookie, and her old boyfriend Bill—and newer vampire love, Eric—will fight to the death to save her. Sookie hopes they don’t kill her in the process…. Warning: Explicit sex. Jacket art by Julie Bell. (419 pp.) 2004-2005.

Chomping at the Bit Wondering: Where have All the Black Vampires Gone?

From Soyluv's blog- can anyone list black vampires or lets just say black " supes" we meet in the Sookie books?

I have been watching True Blood since it premiered, unlike some of the legions of never-see-come-sees out there and while I have never read a single Charlaine Harris book yet—surprisingly. I have skimmed them in a book store and I do think that I would enjoy them very much. About as much or even more than I enjoy the shows which are very entertaining. I also watched and enjoyed all seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so go figure that I would jump at the creation of a new vampire show. I may not be at all Gothic and stuff but I do love imaginative story-lines and great characters. Ok, and I might be slightly, admittedly emo too. I’ve come to that realization. In a way that a quirky black West Indian feminist with a bit too much internal angst can be—without the

‘I am one lucky lady’ Magnolia author discusses her Southern Vampire books, HBO series ‘True Blood’

No vampires appeared Thursday evening, but aficionados of the popular Southern Vampire series by Charlaine Harris of Magnolia did show up for the South Arkansas Community College Lecture Series to hear the author speak.

“I am one lucky lady. I get to do what I like to do,” that’s how author Charlaine Harris described herself. During her hour-long lecture and question/answer time, Harris entertained as well as informed the comfortably-filled SouthArk Gym with glimpses of her day of writing, her characters and the HBO hit series “True Blood.”

Question: Where was the Lois Smith flashback Alan Ball said we were going to get on True Blood? —Kelly
Ausiello:
There was no room at the inn. Per Ball, the episode she was supposed to appear in had reached capacity story-wise. “It was the show that could not be contained,” he explains. “Unfortunately, Lois was a causality of that. But there’s always next season. I’m pretty sure she would love to come back and do something on the show.”

Bloody Cool: Vampire-Inspired Interiors

Shelter Pop looks at Bill's house decorating skills

I'm officially hooked. After a friend tipped me off to the Swedish vampire film, Let The Right One In, I realized I've been watching a lot of vampires, both on the small and big screens. Specifically, I'm one of the many that tune into HBO's True Blood, based on the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris.

And I couldn't help but notice vampire Bill Compton's good taste. As a decorator, he's actually pretty good. He seems to have gotten the Southern Gothic look just right (John Derian would sure be proud), mixing antiques in a not-too precious way. He also seems to be really good at lighting (not too bright!), and has a great collection of ancestral portraits and velvet-upholstered sofas -- very George Smith. And is that a Moroccan Berber rug I spotted in Episode Two?

DO VAMPIRES DREAM OF FANGED SHEEP?

It’s a lesser known fact that when a vampire lets a human drink their blood, the impact isn’t only physical. Humans will often report frequent dreams about the vampire, sometimes quite visceral and vivid in nature. But does the opposite occur? Will a vampire who feeds on a breather dream about them as well?

Come to think of it, do vampires dream at all?

Normally you’d think I was quite capable of answering the question for myself. But even in my human days I could never recall my dreams. Sometimes I doubted I even had them. This hasn’t changed since I became undead, though it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the case for all vampires.

I considered conducting an informal poll, but thought better of it. The very notion of dreaming is somewhat personal, and since no vampire has ever found fit to share their dreams (if they occur, that is), I can’t help but feel it would be somewhat poor form to ask. That and frankly, I don’t want to look like a complete idiot if it’s somehow common knowledge and my mere asking proves just how young a vampire I am.

But let’s suppose vampires can dream. In some cases I can imagine them being quite similar to the ones humans have. Showing up to your nest without clothes; nightmares of sunlit rays poring around you; the horrific feeling that your fangs are falling out as a symbol of powerlessness.

Where things get a bit trickier is in the realm of good dreams. Humans can fantasize increased power or sexual prowess. Their nightly rest can produce positive outcomes with work, great achievements and eternal glory. But what use are these to a vampire? Of course, we can find satisfaction in positive occurrences, but frankly, they are often well within our reach. Even great tasks aren’t insurmountable; we can well afford to take our time.

The obvious counter is a dream of watching a sunset. A secret wish for the ability to exist during the day. But this isn’t nearly as big a deal as some humans might believe. After all, if we really missed the sun so much, why would we allow ourselves to be turned in the first place?

So maybe the better question isn’t if vampires dream. It’s whether we ever stop dreaming.

Man, I love being a vampire.

True Blood Make-Up tips

From Bella Sugar

Sophie-Anne may be the vampire queen of True Blood, but Brigitte A. Myre is the queen of vampire makeup. Myre's talent in makeup artistry earned her an Emmy for her work on Buffy, The Vampire Slayer, and these days she's leading the makeup team for True Blood. Before Sunday's season finale airs, read on for behind-the-scenes beauty secrets of the show.

How Sookie's signature style is changing:
"In the first season, Sookie was a virgin, so we gave her a simple, innocent look," Myre says. She uses Cover FX foundation to perfect Anna Paquin's complexion, but doesn't do much beyond mascara and light lipstick for Sookie's day-to-day look. In the second season, though, Sookie needed a sultrier style. "When she goes to Dallas, it's her first time on a plane, and she's in the big city," Myre explains. "Her makeup is more dramatic, more done-up."
