From Buzzsaw By Catherine Fisher
Vampire: a preternatural being, commonly believed to be a reanimated corpse, which is said to suck the blood of sleeping people at night.
Obsession: the domination of one’s thoughts or feelings by a persistent idea, image, desire and so on.
If we put these two together we can say teen America has fallen prey to the vampire obsession (the domination of these preternatural beings that suck blood) … again.
This sudden craze has left many people shell-shocked and overwhelmed, yet in actuality this should be no surprise. These undead, blood-sucking creatures have entranced the population for centuries. This time around, however, it is just in the form of glamorous movie stars whose faces are plastered over every gossip magazine in the country.
Does anyone remember Dracula by Bram Stoker? It could be known as the most famous vampire reference in history, containing details that have become Vampire Knowledge 101 (Transylvania, Van Helsing, Count Dracula, etc).

A MESSAGE TO ATTENDEES
I'm Kenny, the Promoter of EyeCon's "BloodLust". I would like to welcome you to our first ever weekend long Vampire Festival. We've been overwhelmed with fan interest in the Vampire genre and rather than focus on one particular movie or TV show, we're opening the door to the entire Vampire mythology. This show is for Vampire Lovers, FangBangers, the Gothic community and anyone who is captivated by Vampires and their lore.
As a thank you to our attendees who were present at our September Twilight convention, and in an effort to combat the current economy, we have cut prices drastically. We hope this will allow more fans to indulge in the excitement. Also, for this convention, we are loosening our refund policy to allow for refunds in the event of the cancellation of headlining guests so attendees can purchase their admission tickets with confidence.
We look forward to hosting an exciting, intriguing and perhaps mystifying weekend and hope you will join in the festivities. See you there!

Our greatest vampire hunter? Abraham Lincoln,
Our greatest vampire hunter? Thousands of books have been written about Abraham Lincoln, but none, until now, has dealt with his skills as a vampire hunter. Say what? Seth Grahame-Smith of "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" fame (written with Jane Austen) is now zeroing in on the vampire craze with the grisly parody Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter to be published March 2 by Grand Central.

‘True Blood’ Positively Gushes With Casting News
Fans of HBO’s ‘True Blood‘ can count on meeting several new faces – all of them attractive! – during the gothic drama’s third season.
For starters, New Zealander Grant Bowler – aka Wilhelmina’s fugitive lover, Connor Owens, on ‘Ugly Betty‘ – has landed the recurring role of Coot, says The Hollywood Reporter. Coot is the fearsome head of a biker gang called the F— You Crew. (Subtle, right?) Oh, and he’s a werewolf.
Also bringing the pretty this season is Theo Alexander. The Greece-born newcomer will play Talbot, the “intensely beautiful” bloodsucking beau of Mississippi vampire king Russell Edgington (new series regular Denis O’Hare).

The Transcontinental Disability Choir: True Blood: Sookie Stackhouse, Telepathy, and Disability
From Bitch magazine
The Sookie Stackhouse novels, on which the hit series True Blood is based on, are your typical fantasy fluff. Charlaine Harris has imagined a rich and complex world populated with vampires, Weres, shape-shifters, fairies, maenads, and other mythical creatures which live in secret (or not so secret) with humans. Dead Until Dark evidently inspired Alan Ball enough that he decided to bring the world to life on the television, and I anticipated True Blood with a great deal of excitement when the show first started to be talked up.
But the reason I anticipated it is probably a bit different from the reason most people were excited. Vampires are it right now, which of course means that HBO was going to jump on the show and people who just can't get enough of their vampire fix were delighted to have another world to explore.
All well and good.

Beautiful Creatures ...
Twilight. The Lord of the Rings. Harry Potter. "True Blood". "The Vampire Diaries." There are so many book series out there looking to attain the level of success that those titles have had transitioning to both the big and the small screens. Warner Brothers is about to start banking on another one -- Beautiful Creatures.
Variety reports that Warner has acquired Beautiful Creatures, the first of a five-novel series by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl (which drops in book stores tomorrow), with Richard LaGravanese writing and directing the first feature film.
Synopsis
Ethan Wate, a popular high school student, hates living in a small town in South Carolina where nothing happens -- until he meets and becomes bewitched by Lena Duchanne, a 16-year-old whose family has moved back to town and who wishes for a mundane life. The star-crossed couple has to confront an age-old curse that has haunted her family for generations, as she comes to grips with her powers.

'True Blood' cracks the Producers Guild TV field
The Producers Guild of America announced the nominees in the television series and non-fiction television categories for the 21st Annual PGA Awards.
While the nominees are largely a familiar and traditional lot, without a single new Fall 2009 drama or comedy on the list, the PGA did manage to recognize a few fresh names, including HBO's "True Blood" in the drama category.
The Norman Felton Producer of the Year Award in Episodic Television - Drama nods are led by last year's winner, AMC's "Mad Men," while ABC's "Lost" and "Dexter" are also repeat nominees. Coming off a second season in which it broke ratings records seemingly every week, "True Blood" is new to the field, as is "Breaking Bad," stablemate to "Mad Men" at AMC.

'True Blood' Casting: Sam's mom and more!
With True Blood starting production on its third season this week, the spoilers are starting to flow as freely as Type O-neg at Fangtasia! The biggie: Casting is now underway for a role that sounds suspiciously like it can only be that of Sam’s mother!
Debuting in episode 2, middle-aged Melinda Mickens, The Ausiello Files’ sources say, is just about the only character in history who lives in more trash than Oscar the Grouch. And since she and equally filthy hubby Joe Lee share the same surname as Tommy, the character this column’s already reported is Sam’s brother… well, you can do that math, can’t you?
The show is also on the hunt for a knockout to play Crystal Norris, a mysterious beauty who bewitches one of our alpha males. (Figuratively. Um, I think.) She’ll also make her first appearance in the second eppy.
But wait, there’s more…

True Blood adds Marshall Allman
Season 3 of True Blood continues to shape up as Prison Break’s Marshall Allman (as L. J. Burrows) has been cast as a regular in HBO’s popular vampire show. THR is reporting that Allman will play the role of “Tommy Mickens” in Alan Ball’s adaptation of the novels of Charlaine Harris.
Mickens is described in the reports as “, the long-lost younger brother of Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell) who works at a Tire Depot in Arkansas”.
I know some other recent casting announcements have hit fan sites, but I’ve been told by HBO that they are not quite official (yet). Also joining the fun for Season 3 ss Denis O’Hare .True Blood returns to HBO in the summer of 2010
