All Rhodes lead to : Charlaine Harris sets much of ' All Together Dead' in the city of Rhodes, where is that ?

We have been talking about the Sookieverse fictional city of Rhodes in our discussion of 'Dancers in the Dark' the Charlaine Harris novella about the dancing vampire team, Sean and Layla.

Aside from in the novella, we also see them in the book 'All Together Dead', where as performers from the Blue Moon Productions they dance for and with the guests at the vampire summit. They also dance with Eric and Sookie.

Rhodes is a fictional city but this is what we know about it ...

-'It's way up there by Chicago ' according to Sookie
-It's located on Lake Michigan ( in one of 4 states IL, IN, WI or MI)
-Pyramid of Giza hotel is located there
-You can commute from Rhodes to Chicago ( Glassport pg 73 ATD)
-It's a three hour flight from Shreveport to Rhodes
-Our dancing vampire couple, Sean O'Rourke and Layla LaRue LeMay live in Rhodes.

*The Giza hotel in Rhodes is described as looking an awful lot like the Luxor in Las Vegas.

What have I missed ?

Well, I haven’t gotten to All Together Dead yet (I have to back up and read Dracula Night), but I did just finish Dancers in the Dark. It sounds like this Rhodes is set in my neck of the woods (the Chicagoland area). Now, since it most like is a purely fictional locale, we probably will not come up with definitive answer unless Ms Harris gives more details in later publications. However, let me throw out some random bits of info that might have a bearing.

While I don’t know of any Pyramid of Giza hotel in the area, there is a Golden Pyramid House in Wadsworth, IL (http://www.goldpyramid.com/default.aspx). It’s a private residence but they occasionally do tours and there’s a gift shop (I visited once as a child and was amazed!) The center of the town is between I94 and the lake (so one could argue that Wadsworth is “on Lake Michigan”) and it’s about 45 miles from Chicago. It’s well within commuting distance from The Big Onion – in fact, I have friends who commute in from Kenosha, WI.

So, what do you think? A good possibly maybe?

Obviously, the pyramid hotel in this city was constructed after the Great Revelation, so there would be NO SUCH corollary in our universe. That said, Indiana and Michigan already have cities named Rhodes: Indiana's is in the southern portion of the state, West of Indianapolis; and Michigan's is on the banks of Lake Huron.
There's a problem though...the book describes Rhodes as being almost all the way up by Chicago...which implies that it is located south of Chicago, but since the ONLY town south of Chicago yet still on Lake Michigan is South Chicago, there's really no place it could possibly be located.
Similar to the Chicago in Jim Butcher's Dresden books having no geographical relationship to the actual city...proving that neither author has really cared enough to do their homework.
