Alexander Skarsgard thrives in ‘Generation Kill’

Swedish actor and son of Stellan Skarsgard, Alexander Skarsgard realized how tailor-made his role in the new MAX war drama series “Generation Kill” was from day one.

As a former sergeant himself, the 32-year-old actor said he felt the big advantage of playing a character close to reality. “I did recognize that [advantage],” Skarsgard told the Manila Bulletin in a recent phone interview for “Generation Kill.”

He stressed that his work as a military man gave him more weapons in his acting arsenal as far as tackling the character is concerned. He said, “We didn’t have much time to prepare for the roles so it helps that I know the structure of the system, how you handle your equipment, and how you address the officers.”

Skarsgard, who is also part of the cast of MAX’s “True Blood,” said the characters he’s playing on TV are two very different of individuals. “My character in ‘Generation Kill’ and ‘True Blood’ are very different characters. The shows, for starter, are different.”

He pointed out, “‘Generation Kill’ is down to earth kind of show with a documentary feeling, no soundtrack, very real in portrayals. Being grounded makes it very interesting. [On the other hand, the Vampire series] ‘True Blood’ is much more over the top and crazy.”

Generation Kill is a great miniseries. I've watched it over and over. I got it for Alexander Skarsgard who has top billing and he remains the highlight of the show for me. However, we've learned to love lots of the guys in this show. The dialog is fantastic. To be honest, I like it better than TB. But maybe TB will get better in the second season.
