True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgard Based Eric on Lions and so did Charlaine !
There is a basis in the books for this....
Dead to the World
Eric looked at me intently. I couldn't read his expression. "Had you ever killed anyone before?" he asked.
"Of course not!" I said indignantly. "Well, I did hurt a guy who was trying to kill me, but he didn't die.
No, I'm a human. I don't have to kill anyone to live."
"But humans kill other humans all the time. And they don't even need to eat them or drink their blood."
"Not all humans."
"True enough," he said. "We vampires are all murderers."
"But in a way, you're like lions."
Eric looked astonished. "Lions?" he said weakly.
"Lions all kill stuff." At the moment, this idea seemed like an inspiration. "So you're predators, like lions and raptors. But you use what you kill. You have to kill to eat."
"The catch in that comforting theory being that we look almost exactly like you. And we used to be you.
And we can love you, as well as feed off you. You could hardly say the lion wanted to caress the antelope."
Suddenly there was something in the air that hadn't been there....
Alexander Skarsgård has revealed that he based his True Blood character Eric on lions.
Skarsgård explained that he had been inspired when he watched a wildlife documentary.
“I was fascinated by the male lion, the way he moved, the confidence,” he said. “When he just sat down and looked straight at the cameraman, he did absolutely nothing, but for a second you didn’t know whether he was going to yawn and fall asleep or pounce.
“I thought it would be interesting to try to find that. You don’t show your teeth, you don’t say anything, you don’t show it. It’s the not knowing that’s interesting. Anything could happen.”
Skarsgård also explained that he tries not to “overplay” Eric, saying: “I’m a huge fan of all the old vampire movies, Max Schreck in Nosferatu or Béla Lugosi in Dracula.
“But this guy functions in human society. He’s a club owner. So I wanted to underplay it a bit and make it real. At the same time, I try to find that animalistic quality and the element of danger.”

Denis O’Hare Exclusive Interview TRUE BLOOD
On Season 3 of the hit HBO television series True Blood, actor Denis O’Hare plays Russell Edgington, the flamboyant and deadly
After the shocking events of the last episode, Episode 9, “Everything is Broken,” sees a grief-stricken Russell vow revenge against his foes, vampire and human. His actions will make him a very different character, for the remainder of Season 3. In a recent interview, Denis O’Hare spoke exclusively to Collider about how he was offered this role on the series without having to audition, developing the look and sound of the character, working with this incredibly talented cast and getting used to talking with fangs.
He also gave some hints as to what viewers can expect for the rest of the season, revealed that his storyline is definitely left open to return for Season 4 and talked about his role as a Roman soldier in the upcoming feature film The Eagle of the Ninth, which he had been shooting in Budapest when he was cast on True Blood. Hit the jump to read all about it:
Question: How did you get involved with True Blood? Had you been a fan of the show?
Denis: I was a big fan of the show. I started watching it a little bit late. It was already eight episodes in, and I had heard of it and was like, “Oh, god, vampires. I read Dracula in high school. I’ve been around vampires forever. What could be good about this?” But, I love Alan Ball. I was a big fan of Six Feet Under. So, I got a bootleg copy of the first four episodes on videotape, watched them and was instantly into it. During the first episode, I was like, “Eh.” By the time I got to the second one, I couldn’t watch them fast enough. I got on the phone that night, called Time Warner cable and ordered HBO right then. I was like, “I have to have HBO right now. I need to have HBO On Demand right now. I must see these shows.” So, then I caught up and I’ve been a fan ever since.
Did you have to audition for this role?

Dead To The World: Sookie book #4 (True Blood S 4) by Charlaine Harris
Lets read ahead .....
Sookie comes to the rescue of a naked, amnesiac vampire – and ends up in the middle of a war between witches, werewolves and vampires! Sookie Stackhouse is a small-town cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. She’s pretty. She does her job well. She keeps to herself – she has only a few close friends, because not everyone appreciates Sookie’s gift: she can read minds. That’s not exactly every man’s idea of date bait – unless they’re undead – vampires and the like can be tough to read. And that’s just the kind of guy Sookie’s been looking for. Maybe that’s why, when she comes across a naked vampire on the way home from work, she doesn’t just drive on by. He hasn’t got a clue who he is, but Sookie has: Eric looks just as scary and sexy – and dead – as the day she met him. But now he has amnesia, he’s sweet, vulnerable, and in need of Sookie’s help – because whoever took his memory now wants his life. Sookie’s investigation into what’s going on leads her straight into a dangerous battle between witches, vampires and werewolves. But there could be even greater danger – to Sookie’s heart, because the kinder, gentler Eric is very hard to resist. The Sookie Stackhouse books are delightful Southern Gothic supernatural mysteries, starring Sookie, the telepathic cocktail waitress, and a cast of increasingly colourful characters, including vampires, werewolves and things that really do go bump in the night.

Hammer Exits Casket With Vampire Film, Seeks Co-Investors
Hammer Film Productions Ltd., the maker of 1960s Dracula films starring Christopher Lee, is prowling for co-investors as it returns to moviemaking with a remake of a Swedish vampire tale.
Hammer showed scenes from the drama “Let Me In” to about 6,000 cheering fans last month at the Comic-Con International convention in San Diego. The London-based studio, which has raised $100 million for operations and production, is looking for an equally enthusiastic response at the box office to attract money to co-finance future films.
“You only get the chance once to impress investors with your ability to deliver profitable and enjoyable movies,” Chief Executive Officer Simon Oakes said in an interview.
