A Bone to Pick By Charlaine Harris

A Bone to PickBy Charlaine Harris, Berkley, 262 pages, $32.50

No one does eccentric southern Gothic quite like Charlaine Harris. Of course, Sookie Stackhouse and the vampires of Bon Temps, Louisiana, are now the stars of HBO’s True Blood. But Harris’s talents go far beyond fangs and fancy, and A Bone to Pick hasn’t a Goth in sight. Instead we have Aurora Teagarden, librarian of the small southern town of Lawrenceton, attending three weddings and a funeral.
The funeral is for her friend Jane Engle, whom Roe knew through their membership in a local (now disbanded) crime study club. It appears that Jane has left her very substantial estate to Roe, and it includes a house with a skull hidden in the window seat. The clues fall fast in this clever little puzzle, but it’s the strange characters who keep the story running.

6 Of Our Favorite Fake Drugs

V - True Blood
In True Blood, Vampire blood is the new crack/meth of the world. It plays a big part in the show as its acquisition is the center of several plots throughout. V represents the drug war in contemporary America. Its uses seem fun in moderation, but the prohibition of it causes much of its conflict. Actually, it seems characters used it subtly. WHAT? True Blood being subtle? No way. Anyway, the stuff is dangerous to posses, acquire, and consume, but it can lead to Lizzy Caplan naked so... WORTH IT.

Kwanten a low-key superhero

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/entertainment/a/-/entertainment/9029197/kwanten-a-low-key-superhero/There is no doubt Aussie star Ryan Kwanten could have suited up as a superhero in one of Hollywood's comic-book blockbusters coming out this year and next. He is, after all, on top of the world as the star of the cult vampire series True Blood. And he suits the part. He's 34. He has boyish good looks and flashy blue eyes. He's rugged yet likable. And with solid small roles in his pocket, he's now on the verge of serious fame and fortune.
"There have been chances to audition for various superhero roles," Kwanten admits during a break from filming season four of True Blood. He won't say which roles, and one can only guess how he'd go in Spider-Man's spandex tights or The Hulk's stretchy purple shorts.

C2E2 2011: TRUE BLOOD Cast Members Tease Season 4

With the sharp and explicit HBO series True Blood going into its fourth season, a trio of that show’s stars held court in the IGN Theater of the 2011 C2E2 in Chicago for a question and answer session. Sam Trammel who plays the coincidentally named “Sam,” Kristin Bauer “Pam”, and Brit Morgan “Debbie,” were hosted by IGN’s entertainment director Chris Carl who started the event by asking each actor about how they heard about True Blood and became part of the cast.
Sam had heard about the script when it was being tossed around Los Angeles during pilot season and fell in love with it. He met with the casting director, did a test and got the part. Kristin was also excited about the script and tried out for a different role than the one she eventually received. However, back then the time between audition and casting was so great that she went off to shoot a movie in the Philippines and completely forgot about True Blood when she got the news. Arriving back in LA almost right away she was shuttled off to have her teeth cast for vampire fangs. This caused Sam to laugh, and for Kristin to expose him of being a big fan of her costumes on the show, but perhaps only because she gets to wear clothes while Sam is frequently naked on screen. This caused a lot of laughter and hoots among the panel and the appreciative audience. Brit, who didn’t get cast until the third season, claimed that she was so nervous during her first audition she started to stutter, “but by some miracle” she said, she got a second chance and nailed it.

True Blood season 4 spoiler video

New book release: The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Midnight

The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Midnight will be out this week and, if you haven’t been following the controversy, it’s the last book in TVD series that will be written entirely by L. J. Smith herself (the series is being taken over by a ghostwriter). Personally, I’m all over Whedonistas, a collection of essays by female authors that celebrate the awesomeness of Joss Whedon. And if your into science and gadgets, check out Physics of the Future, which predicts that we will have invisibility cloaks, Internet-accessible contact lenses, modular robots, and flexible paper this century.

New York Times bestselling author Charlaine Harris will sign and discuss her new Sookie Stackhouse novel, Dead Reckoning (Ace Books; $27.95) at both an evening event and a luncheon. With her knack for being in trouble's way, Sookie witnesses the firebombing of Merlotte's, the bar where she works. Since Sam Merlotte is now known to be two-natured, suspicion falls immediately on the anti-shifters in the area. Sookie suspects otherwise, but her attention is divided when she realizes that her lover Eric Northman and his "child" Pam are plotting to kill the vampire who is now their master. Gradually, Sookie is drawn into the plot - which is much more complicated than she knows.
Charlaine Harris a New York Times bestselling author who has been writing for thirty years. She was born and raised in the Mississippi River Delta area. Though her early works consisted largely of poems about ghosts and teenage angst, she began writing plays when she attended Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. She switched to novels a few years later, and achieved publication in 1981 with Sweet and Deadly. After publishing two stand-alone mysteries, Harris launched the lighthearted Aurora Teagarden books with Real Murders, a Best Novel 1990 nomination for the Agatha Awards. In 1996, she released the first in the much darker Shakespeare mysteries, featuring the amateur sleuth Lily Bard, a karate student who makes her living cleaning houses. Shakespeare's Counselor.
After Shakespeare, Harris created The Sookie Stackhouse urban fantasy series about a telepathic waitress named Sookie Stackhouse who works in a bar in the fictional Northern Louisiana town of Bon Temps. The first book in the series, Dead Until Dark, won the Anthony Award for Best Paperback Mystery in 2001. Sookie Stackhouse has proven to be so popular that Alan Ball, creator of the HBO television series Six Feet Under, announced he would undertake the production of a new HBO series based upon the  books  He wrote and directed the pilot episode for that series, True Blood, which premiered in September of 2008 . It was an instant success and is now filming its fourth season.
In October 2005, the first of Harris’s new mystery series about a young woman named Harper Connelly debuted with the release of Grave Sight. Harper has the ability to determine the cause of death of any body. After four novels, this series is on hiatus.
Professionally, Harris is a member of the Mystery Writers of America, the American Crime Writers League, Sisters in Crime, and the International Crime Writers Association. She is a past member of the boards of Sisters in Crime and MWA. She is also a member of Science Fiction Writers of America, Horror Writers Association, and Romance Writers of America, just to make sure she’s covered. Deborah Ann " Jessica" Woll talks about Season 4 relationships

Alexander Skarsgård has confirmed that a witch casts a spell and Eric doesn't know who he is."

Alexander Skarsgård has confirmed that Eric will lose his memory in the fourth season of True Blood.

Speaking to Access Hollywood, Skarsgård explained that the situation will make Eric vulnerable.

"I don't think it's a secret that he gets amnesia this season," he said. "A witch casts a spell and he doesn't know who he is."

Skarsgård continued: "I don't want to reveal too much, but he's kind of like a very big baby suddenly. He doesn't know who he is and he needs protection suddenly and you haven't seen that before."

The fourth season of True Blood premieres on June 12 at 9pm on HBO.

True Blood: The doll is more than just a doll

Thanks for the True Blood spoilers. Got anything else? —James
NATALIE: Remember that creepy doll we saw at Jessica and Hoyt’s new home in the season finale? “I can tell you that the doll is more than just a doll,” executive producer Alan Ball tells us. “That doll has a passenger.”

Ask Ausiello: Spoilers on True Blood, Glee and More!

Question: True Blood. Alcide. Go. —Josh
Ausiello:
Season 4 is “about him dealing with power,” Joe Manganiello shared at PaleyFest over the weekend. “Him dealing with that beast inside of him. The more he lets it out, the more difficult it is to control. You’re going to see him wrestle with that a little more. You also see him wrestle with his feelings for Sookie.” Bonus Manganiello: I hear the in-demand thesp was recently approached about reprising his role as Marshall’s buddy Brad on How I Met Your Mother. Sadly, it doesn’t look like it’ll work out.
Question: What can you tell us about the fourth season of True Blood? —Nanni
Ausiello:
I can tell you that a male character has a sex dream involving Jessica and Hoyt but — major twist alert! — “not at the same time,” reveals Hoyt’s portrayer, Jim Parrack.
Question: Can you give me any scoop on True Blood — specifically about Sookie and Eric? —Arden
Ausiello:
We grilled Alan Ball about those two at PaleyFest and this was his intriguing response: “Sookie’s got romantic entanglements with a lot of different people. It’s not just Bill and Eric. It’s Alcide now, as well. And I don’t think Sam’s ever completely given up on her either. She is definitely going to grow closer to one individual in particular… [and] I think people who read the books will not be surprised.” Wait a second, no one said this job would require me to read.

Spoiler Chat: Which True Blood Twosome Can Expect Major Angst This Season?

Ventura55: Got any True Blood goodies? Because waiting does really suck!Let's talk to the man himself, Mr. Alan Ball! When we asked about the many loves of Sookie Stackhouse at the 28th Annual William S. Paley Television Festival event for the show, Ball said, "What Sookie (Anna Paquin) said to Bill (Stephen Moyer) at the end of last season, she meant it, and it's going to take a lot from him to win her back if he ever will, and I don't know if he ever will or not. And there are complications with Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) that she didn't see coming, and there are complications with Alcide (Joe Manganiello) she didn't see coming." Ball also told us that our fave vamps need to keep a watchful eye out for witches, because they're joining the show this year, and they're gonna be trouble. Ball says, "I don't think it's a rule that vampires and witches that don't get along, but there are certain witches who are really dabbling in dark, dark magic, necromancy—powers over the dead. So vampires aren't going to like that." Last but not least, it sounds like poor Rutina Wesley is going to have a little more fun this year. Ball tells us, "It's a new Tara [this season]. It's a less victim-y Tara. Tara has healed her wounds a little bit."
Sherry575: True Blood please.Expect much angsty awesomeness from Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) and Hoyt (Jim Parrack) this season! Jim tells us, "We're living together, and when I get home from work I find she's been sleeping all day because she has to, and everybody told us there would be problems, but...Deborah and I said before the season, let's make this decision: Let's say we told ourselves, 'It'll never be us. We'll never be that. Our love is bigger and stronger. And now...life is starting to say otherwise.'" Jim also told us, "I like episode three this season; I get to do a great, great scene in that episode. Alan wrote that episode, and I get this wonderful Tennessee Williams-ish scene." But Ball isn't done with him yet, saying, "Well...[Jim] hasn't even begun. Obviously he hasn't read episode seven or eight yet. Those are major. It's not as easy being a couple as perhaps they thought."
alisonwallace: True Blood scoop! We're not feeling so Rosemary's Baby about Arlene's (Carrie Preston) whole pregnancy after talking to Alan Ball. We asked him if Arlene had been impregnated with a demon seed, and Ball said, "I can't tell you yes or no, but there is certainly concern that it might be, and it certainly looks like it might be." And Todd Lowe says, "I don't know if it's devil babies…It's babies. Neonatal, strange, possibly possessed human babies." But here's the thing—as any new mom can tell you, normal human babies behave just like possessed babies, what with the endless screaming and the projectile vomiting. Arlene's probably in the clear, she just won't know it for a while.

Anna Paquin: I Don't Mind Women Drooling Over My Husband

While Anna Paquin has the market of male attention cornered as Sookie Stackhouse in the HBO hit True Blood, when it comes to real life, her husband (and onscreen love) Stephen Moyer is the one with the long line of admirers.

Photos: More couples who met on set

On Saturday night, the cast took to the stage at the 28th annual William S. Paley Television Festival in Los Angeles to give fans a sneak peek about what to expect from season four.

True Blood: Joan Jett Heralds The Season Of The Witch from Jef with one F

Alan Ball was known for his masterful use of music in Six Feet Under. He's lost none of his touch when it comes to his current HBO series, True Blood - which happens to be set in the Louisiana swamps, not terribly far from Houston.

No one was surprised when True Blood was renewed for a fourth season on HBO. The premiere of Season 3 brought in approximately 7 billion viewers (citation needed), and contained some of the series' best and bloodiest moments thus far.
After all, once you turn someone's head around 180 degrees during grudge sex so that missionary position becomes some kind of dead-on-the-highway doggy-style, you just can't call a spanking kinky anymore.
To be fair, there were some lacking moments too. The whole fairy storyline had way too many Renaissance Fair moments, and we can't believe that anyone would knowingly leave an extremely pissed-off and powerful vampire king buried alive in concrete and not expect that to come back and haunt them later.
To be fair, we've established that most of the series' protagonists a) aren't terribly bright; and b) have the survival instinct of a lemming on meth listening to This Mortal Coil's It'll End in Tears.
Still, as always we're looking forward to the new season in June, and HBO has finally released a trailer containing the first of the music we'll be covering in this column.
