True Blood Vampire Showdown: Bill vs. Eric Which undead Louisiana loverboy would win in an Bon Temps battle?

September 2, 2009 - For those of you who read the Charlaine Harris Southern Vampire Chronicles, you know how the love triangle between telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse and her vampire suitors Bill Compton and Eric Northman ultimately turns out. With Season 2 of True Blood coming to a close on September 13, those of us who only know these characters through this HBO series are finally just beginning to get a taste of this bloodsucking rivalry. This edition of Heroes Showdown is about to take a nasty, sordid turn as we pit Bill against Eric in not just a battle for Sookie's love, but in a battle for ultimate undead supremacy.

Let's face it, on True Blood, it's clear who the stronger vampire is. It's set up in the ground rules of the series itself. Older vampires are stronger. Vampires that feed on humans are more virile and savage. The cards are all pretty much laid out; Eric could kick Bill's ass. Just because of age alone. But Bill, for lack of a better word, is the hero of the piece, and aren't heroes supposed to be able to overcome much stronger adversaries? It says a lot of about Bill that, as much as he dislikes Eric, he's still not afraid of him.

It's time to throw down the gauntlet! Don't listen to the screaming girlfans (unless you are one). Don't pay any mind to what does happen in the books if you are privy to such information. Let's have it out! It's the Civil War Soldier versus The Viking where the stakes are…not to get staked!

Oh and Spoiler Alert for anyone who hasn't completely caught themselves up on the show.

Go Ask Dallas " What the hell did Sophie- Anne tell Bill about how to kill the Maenad ?

Dear Dallas, What did Sophie-Anne tell Bill about how to kill Mary Anne the maend ? Thanks, M

Well, M here is the text from the 2 exchanges that Sophie- Anne and Bill have about killing the maenad. Maybe this will help you sort through what Sophie Ann says ..and I get this feeling she might not be telling " William" everything ....

BC: I need to know how to kill a maenad.

SA: A maenad? In Bon T
emps? That's random.

BC: Yes. She seems to have caused some sort of mass hypnosis. The whole town has devolved a primitive state in a matter of days.

SA: Oh, my, she's an old one. Well, they're all old. Relics.

BC: Ancient Greece, correct?

SA: Before that even. Orgies, sacrifice? Cannibalism?

BC: We suspect.

SA: Fun.

BC: So how do I kill
it?

SA: You can't. She's convinced herself she's immortal and so she is.
William, surely you know that everything that exists imagined itself into existence.

BC: I'm not entirely familiar with that theory, no.

SA: Think about it. You're a wild young girl who's married to some jerk who treats you like property and is also fucking some 14-year-old boy. And along comes this religion, which encourages you to get hammered, run naked through the woods, have sex with whoever, or whatever, and it's all part of getting closer to God.

BC: I could see how that would have its appeal, especially to humans with their tendency tow
ards Puritanism.

SA: Exactly. So you're fucking everybody in the dirt.
Why not kill something and eat it raw? Hey, you're super extra pious. There's nothing you can't do, and each time you do it just brings you one step closer to the divine.

BC: Isn't that delusional?

SA: Never underestimate the power of blind faith. It can manifest in ways that bend the laws of physics or break them entirely.

BC: I bit her and it poisoned me. Of course it did.

SA: We can only drink human blood, and she's no longer even remotely human.

BC: But she started out as human.

SA: Hello. Evolution? We started out that way too. Less than two hours till dawn. Shall we have sex? Kidding. I haven't enjoyed sex with men since the Eisenhower administration.

BC: I really ought to get back to...

SA: Nonsense. Sookie's not in any trouble. You would know it

Then later during Yatzhee

SA: Maenads are sad silly things. The world changed centuries ago and they're still waiting for the God Who Comes.

BC: Does he ever come?

SA: Of course not. Gods never actually s

BC: If I can't kill her, how do I get her to leave Bon Temps?

SA: She has to believe that she's successfully summoned forth Dionysus...in hope that he will...ravish her, quite literally devour her, until she's lost into oblivion.

BC: So she seeks...death...the true death. The one thing she's evolved beyond.

SA: Ironic, isn't it? You know, they're really not that smart, these maenads.

BC: So how does she summon this nonexistent god of hers?

SA: I never said he was nonexistent. I just said he never comes. She believes if she finds the
perfect vessel, sacrifices and devours part of him or her while surrounded by the magic of her familiars, then her mad god will appear. At that point, when she willingly surrenders herself to him...

BC: That's the only point she can be killed.

SA: Who's the smartest boy in class.

BC: The perfect vessel... human?

SA: They prefer supernatural beings.

BC: The two-natured.

SA: Shifters, yes. And Weres. Fortunately, they show little interest in us.
Something about our hearts not beating. But they'll try any other being that straddles the two worlds.

BC: As long as it has a beating heart.

SA: You have to remember, they've been trying for centuries. They're constantly improvising their recipes in hopes of finding that one magic element that will make it all happen. Idiots. Excuse me.

Got it now ? No , I don't either

Alexander Skarsgard In A Dress, Anna Paquin's Sexier Look & More: We've Got 'True Blood' Style Secrets!

From MTV

One thing we've always loved about Alan Ball's titillating tale of Bon Temps and its supernatural beings is the series' fine attention to detail—did you notice that clever "Sorry, We're Dead" sign hanging outside vampire Eric's Fangtasia bar last week? This keen eye extends to virtually every corner of HBO's drama, including its fierce fashions.

We got the chance to chat with "True Blood" costume designer Audrey Fisher who spilled on Alexander Skarsgård's cross-dressing moment, where she shops for the cast's fashions (hint: K-Mart!) and the inspiration for newcomer Evan Rachel Wood's '40s-glam look.

HOLLYWOOD CRUSH: During last week's "True Blood," Alex appears in one of Lafayette's delusions wearing a dress. Did it have to be specially made for him? He's a pretty big guy. I can't imagine it was ready to wear!

AUDREY FISHER: Actually, no! We were able to buy larger sizes of Lettie Mae's outfit, which fit just fine with a few alterations. I love putting Alex in all of these delusional outfits: first Andy, then Lettie Mae. Who's next?

Dead in the Family : Sookie book 10 plot summary

I'm not kidding posted to W.H Smith. the UK bookseller's webpage.

Sookie Stackhouse has finally settled into a relationship with the Viking vampire Eric, and her errant brother Jason seems to have his life in order, too. But all the other people in Sookie’s life – Eric himself, her former lover Bill, her friend and boss Sam – are having family problems. Eric’s maker shows up with Eric’s ‘brother’ in tow, the ailing Bill can only be healed by a blood sibling, and Sam’s brother’s marriage is about to take place …or will it? The furor raised by the coming out of the two-natured has yet to settle; some people are just not ready to sit down to dinner with a man who turns into a dog. And Sookie herself is still recovering from her last ordeal. She’s definitely improving, physically and mentally, but she’s always going to have some dark moments now. The werewolves tell her that there have been strange and ominous passers-by in the Stackhouse woods; now Sookie is about to come face-to-face with one of her more distant relatives…

Blood Work! “True Blood” video recap 2.11: Alright, who laid the egg?!

From our wonderful friends Andy and Brian ... "jumped the Sook" hahahha

It’s that time of the week, Campers!

Yes, we’re back with the penultimate episode of Blood Work Too, the second season of our True Blood video recap series where we discuss the hit vampire series, play with dolls and cats and generally make total asses of ourselves.

This week we’re a bit down because … well, because this last episode suuuuuucked. But rather than let it ruin our pre-Labor-Day warmup, we decided to catch some sun and play some Yahtzee. Join us as we enjoy tropical drinks and complain about the shit going down in Bon Temps!

True Blood S2 Episode 9 Subtitles "I will rise up"

True Blood Season 2 Ep 9 Subtitles

Yahtzee, "The Fun Game That Makes Thinking Fun!"

I think Sophie has her original game from 1954.

This from wikipedia
Yahtzee is a dice game made by Milton Bradley (now owned by Hasbro). The object of the game is to score the most points by rolling five dice to make certain combinations. The dice can be rolled up to three times in a turn to try to make one of the thirteen possible scoring combinations. A game of Yahtzee consists of thirteen rounds during which the player chooses which scoring combination is to be used in that round.

The present-day commercial Yahtzee began when toy and game entrepreneur Edwin S. Lowe filed Yahtzee as a trademark with the U.S. Patent Office on April 19, 1956. The first commercial usage of the name Yahtzee was a few weeks earlier on April 3. Lowe classified his product as a "Poker Dice Game."

According to Hasbro, the game was invented in 1954 by an anonymous Canadian couple, who called it "The Yacht Game" because they played it on their yacht with their friends.[8] Two years later they asked Lowe if he would make up some sets to be given as gifts to their friends who enjoyed the game. Lowe perceived the possibility of marketing the game, and acquired the rights to the game from the couple in exchange for 1,000 gift sets. This story is expanded by Lowe in the 1973 book, A Toy is Born by Marvin Kaye. According to Lowe, the game did not initially do well commercially, since the rules and appeal were not easily conveyed in an advertisement. Eventually, he had the idea of organizing Yahtzee parties at which people could play the game and thereby gain a firsthand appreciation for it. The idea was successful, and enthusiasts quickly popularized the game through word of mouth.

Milwaukee Talks: "True Blood" actress Kristin Bauer

From On Milwaukee ALSO listen to a podcast about her wedding

Racine native Kristin Bauer keeps herself busy. In addition to playing Pam, the vampire club owner on HBO's hit show, "True Blood," Bauer is also an artist, an animal rights activist and a new bride who got married on her family's farm.

Bauer has 53 credited television and film projects -- everything from "Seinfeld" to "Desperate Housewives" to "Boston Legal" and now, "True Blood," which she says is her favorite project yet.

With "True Blood" approaching its season-two finale, we caught up with Bauer by phone to discuss "man hands," her newfound recognition, her memories of Mayfair Mall and more. Enjoy this latest Milwaukee Talks.

OnMilwaukee.com: What's it like working on a show that some critics are calling one of the best on TV?

Kristin Bauer: It's incredible, surreal and unexpected.

OMC: What part of it is unexpected? Because I've watched every episode of "True Blood" and knew it was a pretty unique show from day one.

KB: I don't know if it's me having been in the business a bit and have gotten my hopes up so many times, because there's so much about filming that I can't control. I've done some amazing things that people didn't really see, and some crappy things that everybody saw. I somehow have to focus on just saying the words and then forget about it. I assumed it would be amazing because of (executive producer) Alan Ball, and I love vampires, and the cast is so incredible. I was working on another show, and halfway through the hair and makeup, someone said, "We just have to tell you we love 'True Blood,' and you're incredible as Pam!" They were giving me attention that seems different than the other hit shows that I've been on like "Seinfeld." There's a real mysterious component to this level of interest.

Evan Rachel Wood: Vampire Queen

from TV Guide

No longer the sullen teen of Once & Again or gothed-out girlfriend of Marilyn Manson, Evan Rachel Wood is all grown up—and glammed up—as True Blood’s vampire queen, Sophie-Anne Leclerq. That so doesn’t bite.

We hear Sophie-Anne is gonna get down with someone in Bon Temps.
[Laughs] No! I don’t know how that got out, and I don’t want people tuning in and being disappointed. It’s not a sex scene; it’s just a steamy scene. There’s a little something going on with somebody you don’t expect.

How old is she?
I’ve heard somewhere between 500 and 1,000 years old. And she’s spoiled—she’s a queen—so she’s decked out in the best clothes and the best jewelry. She’s incredibly smart and witty, but she is definitely deadly.

Is she heroic?
You don’t know if she’s good or bad. I think she’s a little bit of both.

Does she have any weaknesses?
None that I know of, but you know, everybody does. I was gonna say she’s only human, but she’s not! [Laughs]

Now who would you rather bite, Eric or Bill?
I’m gonna say Eric.

This is a big change for you.
It’s gonna be another side of me that people have never quite seen. I think it’s the role I was born to play.

Another Minor True Blood Quibble, or: Eric Can Fly !?!

I think this boils down to True Blood watchers not getting things in the TV show that are thrown into the series for Sookie Stackhouse book fans ....

I'm going to go back and listen to the radio show from Sunday night because I think Sookie and I had a really good talk with Mark Blankenship about this issue. Mark said that as the Huffington Post Pop Culture critic and being assigned to cover True Blood, he made the decision to NOT read the books. This was not because he didn't want to but as a professional reviewer he wanted to only be responding to what HBO viewers see on True Blood from week to week.

My brilliant response ( ;-) )was that while I understood that and respected that but because he hasn't read the books he does not understand what I called Alan Ball and the writers " throwing bookies a bone" This is exactly what happened in this episode not only with the Eric flying but more importantly with the Sophie- Anne visit.

Now don't say, "Awww Dallas in LDID Eric knows lots about the maenad and we don't meet Sophie Anne for 3 more books and one short story"

I know, what I said to Mark was that none of Sophie- Anne's pretty outfits and confusing and poorly delivered information about the maenad was the point of the SA visit. The point was to introduce the did 'Bill betrayal' storyline which we won't know about in the books until that hospital emergency room in New Orleans many books from now. This is where we learn that secretly Bill was sent to Bon Temps to, as Bill says "She ordered me to return to my human home, to put myself in your way, to seduce you if I had to …she wanted your gift harnessed for her own use"
So, now in the True Blood version we have :

  • The Queen knows Bill is in Bon Temps but is a little surprised when he tells her, he is feeding only from Sookie.
  • Hadley knew Bill by name ( so they have met before)
  • Hadley knows Bill is living in Bon Temps because she asks about Sookie and Gran
Now, we have to see what the connection Eric has to the Queen, it does not seem to be following the books.

Then we have the out of the blue the "Eric flying " scene, and what seems like weird, disconnected information to the True Blood watcher ( who has no book knowledge) are really the "bookie bones " or those things that are being thrown in for the bookies. ( like Mark and the New Yorker )

And of course, in the last episode we saw the Sookie ( possible fae power ) to Mary Anns face ..

What do you think ?

From New Yorker Magazine

A few weeks ago, a few of Vulture's biggest True Blood fans put together a list of our top five gripes about the show. Well, as we were watching last night's episode, we realized there was one more minor complaint that we neglected to air a few weeks ago. Namely, Alan Ball keeps changing the laws of vampire physics on the show! Okay, maybe "physics" isn't exactly the right terminology, but you get our meaning. Take last night, for example, when Eric just up and decided that he could fly (!!!) through the air with the greatest of ease! Of course, during the show's nearly two full seasons, we've seen many a vamp do one of those fast-forward speed walks off into the distance, but unless we're totally mistaken, we haven't seen one straight-up bound into the atmosphere like Superman or Peter Petrelli on Heroes. Since when did they get those powers, anyway? Do all vamps have that ability, or is it some sort of special ability Godric passed down to Eric? Since we've seen vampires fly without having to morph into bats in other movies (The Lost Boys comes to mind), it wasn't as big a deal as, say, the discovery of Jessica's unfortunate case of regenerative hymen syndrome, but STILL. All we're asking for is a little consistency, please!

Charlaine Harris, a published novelist for over 25 years, is best known for her genre-defying series of “not a traditional mystery, nor yet pure science fiction or romance,” of Sookie Stackhouse novels that began with Dead Until Dark. Appealing to a wide audience of people who just enjoy a good adventure, each subsequent Stackhouse novel – featuring a telepathic Louisiana barmaid friend to vampires, werewolves, and various other odd creatures – has drawn more and more readers. Harris began her writing career with a series of traditional mysteries featuring a Georgia librarian, Aurora Teagarden. Her first Teagarden novel, Real Murders, garnered an Agatha nomination. Her Southern vampire books are published in Japan, Great Britain, Greece, Germany, Thailand, Spain, France, and Russia.

STYLE EXCLUSIVE: Fashion Fit for True Blood's Vampire Queen

From Chris at RadarOnline

While most of you are looking forward to September 13 for the dramatic finale of True Blood, we're still stuck on Sunday's amazing reveal of Queen Sophie-Ann.

The delicious Evan Rachel Wood plays the scheming, lady-loving ruler of southern vamps--and does so in drop dead garb. RadarOnline.com got to the bottom of costume designer Audrey Fisher's vision for the undead royal.

We first meet Wood snacking on her female lover in a floor-length gold dust gown by Les Habitudes with cascading embroidery, heels by Bebe and rhinestone watch by Figaro Couture.

And talk about a high/low combo--the dramatic drop earrings that look as though the Queen raided them from an Elizabethan pop-up are only $65, from Carloee, available at Lord & Taylor.

For her second look, and our personal favorite, Sophie-Ann sports a tongue-wagging pool ensemble: throwback bathingsuit by Norma Kamali, robe by Jonquil, bust broach a vintage Pauline Trigere and DSquared heels.
