Charlaine Harris blogs about the True Blood season 3 premier

I’ve been asked by more than one reader to give a better account of what actually happens at a premiere, so here goes.
The premiere for “True Blood” has been held every time at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood. For those of you who don’t remember what Cinerama was, it was a new way of filming  back in the sixties, and you could go to special theaters and view the action on a sort of curved semicircular screen. This Cinerama is the original one, but now the building has a regular flat screen, as far as I know. You can Google it if you’re interested. This theater seats 800.
The arrivals of the principal people are orchestrated. I was an early arrival, since I’m not that important in the “True Blood” scheme of things, and I have no problem with this. Premiere night is to celebrate the show and the people who work on it, particularly the actors. So us lesser fry (the woman who plays Ivetta, the young man who plays the lover of the King of Mississippi) get there earlier. Then come the more important people like Todd Lowe, Rutina Wesley, Kristin Bauer Van Straten. Then the even more important people come – Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Alexander Skarsgard. So the event always starts late. We had a start time of 7:30, and we finally all got seated at 8:15.
Anyway, to get back to drop-off time. There actually is a red carpet. When I scramble out of the limo, my family is ushered inside the theater and they’re checked off the list and given special bracelets to wear to verify that they’re invited guests. I’m assigned a handler from HBO who takes me along the red carpet where the press stands behind a waist-high barrier. Every reporter is backed up with a cameraman or two and usually one or two other people. They’re from all over, and represent very big organizations to very small ones. HBO itself, MTV, and on and one; some French, some Spanish, most American.
The handler very kindly explains who I am to the reporter, I step close to the barrier and answer four or five questions, we indicate we’re through with each other by saying “Thank you!” I step back, and my handler and I wait for the next free reporter.
So that’s how it works, and if I’ve described this before, I’m sorry. All the seating in the theater is assigned, too. The HBO executives are there, the actors and their plus ones are there, and I was able to bring my agent, my husband, and my three kids. I noticed that Alan got a whole row to invite – I was envious!
The after-party was held a few blocks away at a place that specializes in such things. The decorations were amazing; stuffed wolves, fountains, a huge projection of the poster on the wall, various food stations with “southern” food (much fancier than the real thing) and about a million waiters who picked up used glasses and plates, brought drinks, and generally kept very busy. I had a designated table there, again not in the Great People corral, but special enough.  Some readers stopped by to have their pictures made with me, I got to have a nice conversation at the theater with Michael Emerson from “Lost,” and director Alexander Woo. Rutina was as warm and charming as she always is. I did get to speak to Anna and Stephen briefly at the after-party, and Alexander (Skarsgard) was sweet enough to let me get a picture of him with my daughter.
So, that’s how it works. We were glad to get into our car and go back to the hotel afterward, and I reflected that it’s oddly easy to get used to almost anything.

Shapeshifter Lays The Smack Down On Vampires & Werewolves!

There are many dangerous creatures lurking about on "True Blood" from vampires to werewolves, but one supernatural species that often gets overlooked is the shapeshifter. Previously only represented by Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell), the shape-shifting world has opened up considerably in this third season thanks to the arrival of Sam's brother Tommy Mickens, played by Marshall Allman.

During our exclusive interview with Marshall, we asked the "True Blood" actor if he thought that a shapeshifter could hold its own in a fight against a vampire and a werewolf. Not only did Marshall say that a shapeshifter would hold up just fine, he believes that the shapeshifter would win without any difficulty whatsoever!

"The shapeshifter wins instantly!" he declared, saying that the werewolf would be the first supernatural creature to fall in the fight.

Vampire Con's anti-'Twilight' stance: Go for the jugular

Hero Complex contributor Nicky Loomis is back with a look at a local event out for new blood in its second year.

For a couple of self-described “horror film geek freaks,” the idea to start a vampire convention came natural.

But as Wendi Mirabella, an event planner, and her longtime friend, Lotti Pharriss Knowles, a writer/filmmaker, set out to separate themselves from the current vamp-scape of pretty-boy fangers and TwiPhones full of Edward Cullen head shots – it left them feeling a little long in the tooth.

"It almost seems like there is a bit of vampire fatigue,” said Mirabella, the organizer behind the 2nd Annual Vampire Con, a Thursday-Saturday (June 24-26) film festival that celebrates the original gangstas of vampire lore – not the current breed who've perfected creating a good brood and, well, looking pretty.

Fang fatigue there may be, but with the recent "True Blood" Season 3 premiere (they've added sexy werewolves to the mix), and "Twilight's" third installment, "Eclipse," premiering June 30, there's no shortage of blood in this town yet.

Talk about spoilers: True Blood season 4 to be based on the book " Dead to the World" by Charlaine Harris

We know Alan Ball has said he will be basing each season of True Blood on a Sookie Stackhouse book, therefore Season 4 will be based on book four which is " Dead to the World"

This is the book when Sookie does "hook up" with the amnesic Eric.

Wikipedia plot summary :
This novel takes place at the end of December, three weeks after the events of Club Dead. Bill and Sookie have broken up due to his betrayal with Lorena. He informs Sookie he is going to Peru at the beginning of the book. Shortly after Bill’s departure, Sookie, on her way home after working at Merlotte’s New Year’s Eve party, finds Eric running for his life with bare chest and feet. He has a forlorn look, an expression Sookie has never seen in the confident Eric. Eric does not recognize her, he knows he is a vampire, but he does not know who he is. Sookie takes him to her home, washes his feet and calls Fangtasia to let Pam know that she has found Eric. The next night, Pam and Chow come to her house and explain to her that several nights ago a group of witches arrived in Shreveport. Pam explains to Sookie the true nature of witches revealing that real witches can do plenty of bad things to vampires because witches control magical forces. This group seems to be more powerful than other witches and they either want to take over Eric's businesses or make Eric pay them money to leave him alone. The leader, Hallow, and her brother threatened Eric that they would curse him by turning Fangtasia's alcoholic drinks bad, and cause patrons to trip over the dance floor and sue them, which would badly affect Fangtasia’s revenues. Pam tells Sookie that a witch had come with a message from Hallow saying that Hallow lusted for Eric and asked him if he would entertain her for seven nights, she would only demand a fifth of his business, rather than half. Eric had refused and suddenly vanished from the office where they were discussing this offer. Eric says he does not remember anything and that he was born the moment he was running down the road. Pam and Chow asked Sookie to keep Eric safe while they solve the problem with the witches. Later Sookie learns through Holly Clearly (another waitress at Merlotte's) that this coven of witches have a lot of power that they are willing to use for evil, that they drink vampire blood and that they are werewolves as well. Holly also tells Sookie that this new coven has called all local witches and Wiccans to join them. Furthermore, Sookie learns that her brother, Jason, is missing and starts looking for him. Sookie informs Alcide Herveaux of the existence of this werewolves-witch coven in Shreveport and heads to Hotshot to speak to Crystal Norris (a were-panther) as she was the last person Jason was seen with.
Throughout all these chaotic events, Sookie and amnesiac Eric’s relationship grows, and they begin a sexual affair. Sookie is physically and emotionally attracted to this gentle and caring Eric. Sookie is happy to be with Eric, a man who has told her she was beautiful, and who had not only given her sexual pleasures, but also had held her and laughed with her. He starts calling her “lover” and they admit to each other that they have feelings towards one another. This Eric even offers to Sookie that he will stay with her forever, to work and help her, and he tells her that she will never be poor.
The novel reaches its climax when the Shreveport pack, the Area Five’s vampires and the local Wiccans fight together against Hallow and her coven. The coven is defeated and Hallow is kept alive so she could un-hex Eric’s memory loss, and Pam kills her afterwards. But before Hallow can reverse the curse on Eric he and Sookie go back to her house to find Debbie Pelt waiting with a gun. Eric takes the bullet for Sookie who then kills Debbie. Eric discards her body once he has recovered from the gunshot wound. When Eric gets his memory back, he has no recollection of his time with Sookie.
Eventually, Sookie, Sam and Calvin Norris discover that Felton Norris (Calvin and Felton are both werepanthers from Hotshot) was keeping Jason captive because Felton is in love with Crystal and did not want to see Crystal with Jason. Felton has bitten Jason several times and Sookie is afraid that her brother will turn to a werepanther in the next full moon. Calvin decides to punish Felton and it is implied that Felton is killed.

Sookie's genealogy as seen in True Blood S3 ep 2

What the hell ? How wrong could this stupid chart be ...???

This kind of ticks me off ( unless it's on purpose incorrect) because they are obviously setting up the reason for Bill being in Bon Temps, Sookie's unusual sparkly power, Sophie Anne's relationship with Hadley and  and we understand way before we see them in the books we will meet Hunter and Cousin Claudine in this season of True Blood.

The information in this is just incorrect even according to True Blood

Problem #1 : Earl is not married to a Stackhouse, Earl's wife is Gran, who was Adele Hale. ( in a wider shot you can see Hale)
#2  Hadley's last name is NOT Stackhouse it's Delahoussaye in books
#3  Hunter's last name is also not Stackhouse it's Savoy

** of course Sookie's mother's last name and maternal grandparents are from True Blood and not found in the books

My genealogy work is found here
** I have never updated the Brigant fae familes since the last books

A very special True Blood vampire Nazi dinner party

Meredith, Team Talk Blood Radio member extraordinaire's review of Ep2

The second episode of True Blood's third season was pretty heavy. Lots and lots of plot lines and new characters almost drowned the special Nazi vampire reveal. Almost, but not quite. Spoilers ahead.

Whew, this episode had a ton of junk in it. All of it was delightfully insane, but it was damn near impossible to keep up with. Thankfully, no matter how crazy things got, Eric's hungry vampire libido found a way to cut through the bullshit and hit you right where it matters most. In your crotch.

Pro: Some news: True Blood was renewed for a fourth season! Thank goodness our lives will all continue to have meaning.

Pro: Right where we left off from last week, Bill is ripping off the ears of werewolves with his teeth! Ah, Bill you maniac, you.

Meet True Blood‘s Vampire King of Mississippi

Interesting that the "King" is getting so much attention, did no one notice " Queen " Sophie Anne last year ? Maybe the importance of the Vampire hierarchy is just sinking in ...

Bon Temps is getting a taste of royalty this season on True Blood — or better yet, royalty is getting a taste of Bon Temps.
With the evil machinations of Maryann coming to a gruesome and goring end in the season 2 finale, the role of outright evildoer was left glaringly vacant.
Despite all the fang-flashing and glowering (mixed with a generous amount of carnal blood-sucking) they are prone to, the blood-lusters of Bon Temps can’t seem to shake that annoying habit called humanity.
In fact, Godric — the oldest and most powerful vampire that viewers had been introduced to — seemed to have come full circle, showing more compassion and understanding than most of the human characters and ultimately choosing to sacrifice himself in the name of human-vampire relations.

Enjoying the return of True Blood? Then you'll really appreciate this bloody good news: HBO has just confirmed its hit vampire series will return for a fourth season!
Meanwhile, if you saw last night's episode, you have questions. What's up with that mysterious dude Franklin? Is Sookie's new "bodyguard" Alcide going to seduce her away from Bill? And oh yeah, what's it really like to see Alexander Skarsgård fully naked? (I don't care, ahem, but word on the street is some of you fans do.)
Also, when does the jaw-dropping vampire porn really begin?
Here's what James Frain (Franklin), Kristin Bauer (Pam) and Joe Manganiello (Alcide) tell me...

    more spoiler from EOnline

Jesse in Rhode Island: True Blood! True Blood! True Blood!
We all know Layfette is thisclose to hooking up with True Blood newbie Kevin Alejandro (Jesus), but did you know that it's like real love and stuff? "Lafayette don't spend time on flings," Nelsan Ellis tells us. "They come and then they go, but this character, Jesus, he's been with for about two weeks. That's a lifetime for Lafayette, and he has deep, deep feelings for Jesus." Adds Kevin: "You'll see me throughout the season all the way 'til the end so whatever happens after that, we'll see." And a big prize pony to anyone who guessed that we'd be seeing some steamy scenes between these two. When asked if he'll be getting nude this season, Kevin tells me: "Yeah, there's been enough. Not to the extreme, but there's been enough. You'll see it happen."
Peggy in Georgia: Thanks for all the awesome True Blood scoop and video today Pam is the best character on TV. Any more dish on her?
As a matter of fact, Kristin Bauer (Pam) says there are big things ahead for the scene stealer. "We get more sides of Pam," she promises. "Her relationship with Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) is really explored, which is incredibly fun because it's a father-daughter relationship." Really? Did anyone else catch that vibe? Hmmm! Pam's also "very involved in the politics of the vampire world this year, and that's another fun thing because we see her at the hierarchy of these different vampires." Still, Alexander Skarsgård reminds us: "Eric is still at the top when it comes to Bon Temps--or at least he thinks he is."
