"Vamps only " what is this photo?

I tweeted this photo yesterday as a little puzzle to see if anyone knew whether this " does or doesn't have anything to do with True Blood " Anyone know ??

Vamping up vampires in Malaysia

From New Straits Times in Malaysia- did you know vampires are very different around the world ?

LET's take a breather from politics, the economy, nuclear technology and war for a while.

Let's talk about vampires. Yes, those blood-sucking, amorous, fanged creatures who hang out in dilapidated mansions.

Why? Well, for starters, they are famous, particularly among the Americans and British. They are well-known for their ability to scare the living daylights out of us.
What about our local version of a vampire, or pontianak? Definitely not as glamorous as their Western cousins.

Nowadays, the only kinds of vampire known to the younger generation are those from the Twilight movies. Yes, the annoying ones. Not many can understand why teenage girls shriek in ecstasy the minute they catch a glimpse of Robert Pattinson's pasty mug.

It is sad that our own pontianak have no place in the hearts and minds of youths, or in pop culture.

True Blood's Joe " Alcide " Manganiello is Not Your Average Joe

Vampire and werewolf drama "True Blood," HBO's Golden Globe- and Emmy award-winning series, has added some new blood to its cast: Mount Lebanon native—and diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan—Joe Manganiello, who admits to bleeding a bit of black and gold.

He’s tall (6 feet 5 inches), dark (his jet-black locks have a touch of salt and pepper perfectly accentuating his temple region) and handsome (… and chiseled …and fit). Joe Manganiello also is smart (he has a bachelor’s from Carnegie Mellon University), and he gives back to the community (he supports Until There’s a Cure, a national organization dedicated to eradicating HIV/AIDS by raising awareness and funds through his public service announcements). Add that all up, and you’ll have no problem figuring out why this man is such a hot commodity.

True Blood's Carrie " Arlene " Preston Eases Fans’ Fears About Season 3 Overcrowded Cast

When HBO’s ‘True Blood‘ lets rip with its third season on June 13, viewers should brace for quite the influx of new blood.

The new faces include the werewolf Alcide, to be played by Joe Manganiello (’One Tree Hill’), and his psycho ex, Debbie Pelt (Brittany Morgan, ‘The Middleman’. On the family front, we’ll meet Sam’s mother (J. Smith-Cameron) and younger brother (Marshall Allman, ‘Prison Break’), and reconnect with Bill’s Civil War-era wife, Caroline (recast with Shannon Lucio, ‘Prison Break’).

Colorful newcomers include The King of Mississippi, Russell Edgington (played by Tony winner Denis O’Hare); Sookie’s fairy godmother, Claudine (Lara Pulver, ‘Robin Hood’); Tara’s overprotective beau, Franklin Mott (James Frain, ‘The Tudors’); and Lafayette’s new love interest (Kevin Alejandro, ‘Southland’).

True Blood‘s Ryan Kwanten says when doing a nude scene tie the “modesty sock” on really tight

Vampires, maenads, telepaths, shapeshifters — even the Fellowship of the Sun.

As True Blood‘s oft-shirtless — and ever clueless — resident mortal hunk Jason Stackhouse, Ryan Kwanten has just about seen it all –- and he’s done it without having to worry much about a wardrobe. But as the third season of the HBO hit series gears up for it’s June 13 premiere, Sookie’s older brother can breathe a slight sigh of relief (and maybe let himself go a bit) as the rest of the cast will be doing the bulk of the flesh-baring.

“I’ve passed the nudity mantel,” Kwanten tells PEOPLE at Ubisoft’s launch of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. “Some of the others cast members have taken on the throne.”

And a sometimes chilly throne it is.

Televisonary does an advanced review of True Blood Season 3

Gotta say I am never too happy with all the advanced dvd going out every year of the first 3 episodes - nothing ends up being a mystery until episode 4 it all leaks out.

It's time once again to invite HBO's gloriously addictive vampire drama True Blood, returning in just a few weeks' time with its third season, back into our homes.

Based on the strength of the first three episodes of the season, there's no need for it to use a glamour, as viewers will only be too willing to let it in without a struggle.

When we last saw the inhabitants of Louisiana bayou town Bon Temps, they were recovering after their brush with the immortal maenad Maryann (Michelle Forbes) and tensions were running high. When poor, doomed Eggs (Mehcad Brooks) finally remembered the actions he had taken while in her thrall, he sought to make a confession to Andy Bellefleur (Chris Bauer), only to be shot to death by Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten). Elsewhere, Sookie (Anna Paquin) considered a marriage proposal from Bill (Stephen Moyer), only to discover that he had been kidnapped.

'True Blood' gets an infusion for Season 3: Werewolves

From USA Today- one of the first really good and interesting articles I've read about Season 3 !

LOS ANGELES — True Blood is getting new blood.

Werewolves, to be exact, will join the peculiar world of vampires, shape-shifters and mind readers who spice up the third-season HBO drama, returning June 13 (9 ET/PT).

"It's just another element added to the supernatural craziness of it all," says Anna Paquin, who plays the telepathic Sookie Stackhouse. "There's no way you can ever get bored on a show like this. When you think you've seen it all and done it all, something weirder and wilder comes out of the woodwork."

Weirder and wilder should provide an infusion of Oh! positive for an avid fan base that more than doubled during Blood's second season to 5 million viewers for each episode's first broadcast. Adding in replay, DVR and on-demand viewing, Blood ranks second only to The Sopranos among HBO series in total viewership.

The thirst for Blood may be unquenchable. Fan site true-blood.net reports more than four times as many visitors in the past 30 days as in the corresponding period in 2009.

Why do fans respond so strongly? "Part of us yearns for the muck of the primal," says series creator and executive producer Alan Ball. "We still have part of us that feels in awe of nature and all of the stuff that is bigger and scarier than us. ... I think True Blood has evolved into a show that can feed that desire, that incorporates fear, terror, sex and transcendent behavior in a way that's really entertaining and funny at the same time."

Some sizzling True Blood spoilers from creator Alan Ball

Alan Ball has a promise for True Blood viewers. The characters in his randy, violent, supernatural series aren't going to experience long-term happiness anytime soon.

"Here's the thing about happiness: It's great in our lives, but it's not really that interesting to watch on television," said creator Ball, whose series is about to premiere its third season on HBO on June 13.

Ball feels season three is "the best season yet." Along with the "fantastic core cast," several new regulars will be introduced this season, as well as a number of impressive guest stars, such as Alfre Woodard, who plays Lafayette's mother. Beyond that, "We are dealing with some new supernatural creatures. ... It has just been a really fun, exciting season to put together, and I just have really, really high hopes for it. ... I can't give anything away."

Well, actually he did give some things away ... like these nine spoilers ... (And between the spoilers you'll find most of HBO's clever posters.)

1. The Shifters and the Weres: This season will take us into "the shape-shifter world and the were world. They are two different kinds of creatures with a lot of similarities," said Ball. On the were side, "There are a handful of werewolves, the main ones being Alcide Herveaux (Joe Manganiello), his ex-girlfriend Debbie Pelt (Brit Morgan), [and] a couple of werewolves named Coot and Gus, who are Grant Bowler and Don Swayze."

On the shifter side, "Sam Merlotte [Sam Trammell] is going to meet his biological family. He is going to go on a journey to find his birth family and is going to be successful in that regard." Joining the cast is Marshall Allman, who plays Tommy Mickens, Sam's brother, who may or may not be a shape-shifter.

‘True Blood’ Season 2 Blu-ray and Social Media

A little more on the social media value built into the new Blu-ray version of True Blood Season 2

HBO Video’s May 25th release of True Blood: The Complete Second Season isn’t the first Blu-ray Disc to include Facebook and Twitter features. But it may be the best.

The discs allow users to post to Twitter and Facebook in real-time while watching episodes and even select certain scenes to post to Facebook. Conversely, up-to-the-minute “True Blood” Facebook page and Twitter news can be fed into the discs while fans are watching.

“Our ‘True Blood’ fans are so active on Facebook that it made a lot of sense to connect BD Live to Facebook,” said Sofia Chang, SVP of marketing for HBO Video. “By providing such a robust experience as we did on ‘True Blood’ Live Feed, we engage those fans on a deeper and personalized level while simultaneously allowing them to share it all with their friends.”

Additionally, the more a fan watches the season, the more easter eggs and virtual gifts they can earn.

There’s more: While watching the series, users can decide which “True Blood” group they wish to join, including Vampire, Fellowship of the Sun and Follower of Dionysus. The viewing experience is then tailored to that group.

Lastly, hardcore fans can use a picture of themselves that can be transformed based on the “True Blood” group they select. For those that choose Vampire, the more they watch, the more pale (and bloody) the picture gets.

Blu-ray exclusive features:
-Character Perspectives: Learn more about what's going on straight from the mouths of Hoyt, Pam, Karl, and Steve Newlin
-Flashback/Flash Forward: Move through time in the world of Bon Temps. Flashback to relive pivotal moments or Flash Forward to reveal the significance of a certain scene
-Pro/Anti-Vampire Feeds: Receive news updates and information from both organizations throughout the episode and decide which camp you support
-Hints/FYI: Don't miss a beat with these FYI trivia facts and show hints and clues
Also includes:
-The Vampire Report (Special Edition): Check out the past year's biggest stories in vampire news, politics, and popular culture in the special edition of The Perspective with Victoria Davis
-Fellowship of the Sun: Reflections of Light: Rules to live by with Fellowship of the Sun leaders Steve and Sarah Newlin
-Seven audio commentaries with the cast and crew, including Alan Ball, Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Michelle Forbes, Alexander Skarsgard, Rutina Wesley, Ryan Kwanten, Sam Trammell, and many more

Pre-order the new film, Open House starring Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer

SIRIUS XM Radio today announced that it will launch Author Confidential -- an exclusive new interview series featuring intimate conversations with iconic authors in front of a live studio audience -- on June 7 on SIRIUS XM Book Radio with inaugural guest Charlaine Harris, the #1 New York Times bestselling author whose beloved Sookie Stackhouse novels serve as the basis for HBO's hit show True Blood.

On Author Confidential, Harris sits down with SIRIUS XM Book Radio hosts Kim Alexander and Maggie Linton for a revealing, intimate and in-depth conversation about her career, the Sookie Stackhouse novels (including her latest in the series, Dead in the Family), the True Blood phenomenon and more, bringing listeners inside the modern-day Louisiana world she's created where vampires and humans mingle.

For a video excerpt of Author Confidential with Charlaine Harris, visit www.youtube.com/siriusxm.

Select quotes from the interview: Charlaine Harris on how the Sookie Stackhouse series began: "I was left looking at turning fifty trying to decide what to do. It came to me that it would be fun to write a book about Louisiana, about a very down home young woman who was dating a vampire and everything kind of built from that kernel."

Charlaine Harris on writing about vampires: "There are all different kinds of ways to interpret the vampire rules. I've tried to bring something different to the genre."

Charlaine Harris on working with True Blood creator Alan Ball: "I
knew that he got me. Not everyone gets the mixture of humor and
horror and blood and death...with a wink, and I knew Alan did."

True Blood gives views a taste of the first ever QR code for TV

QR codes are practically unheard of anywhere outside of Japan, but that doesn’t mean that they should be ignored. The trailer for the upcoming season 3 of HBO’s True Blood contains a QR code that sends your mobile phone to the HBO mobi site for the show.

QR codes were never pitched as the next media revolution to save the world, but they’re a cheap and simple additional layer for kids that know what the hell they are. We wish they were used more widely here in the appropriate circumstances, but maybe that day is yet to come.

Thanks to a Japanese scientist's invention of synthetic blood, vampires have progressed from legendary monsters to fellow citizens overnight. And while humans have been safely removed from the menu, many remain apprehensive about these creatures "coming out of the coffin." Religious leaders and government officials around the world have chosen their sides, but in the small Louisiana town of Bon Temps, the jury is still out.

Local waitress Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), however, knows how it feels to be an outcast. "Cursed" with the ability to listen in on people's thoughts, she's also open-minded about the integration of vampires — particularly when it comes to Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), a handsome 173-year-old living up the road. But at the service of Bill's less virtuous vampire associates, Sookie is drawn into a series of catastrophes that will put their love to the test.

The latest hit series from 'Six Feet Under' creator Alan Ball, 'True Blood' delves into the meticulously-crafted world of novelist Charlaine Harris. Described by the Emmy®-winning Ball as "popcorn for smart people," the first season of ‘True Blood' caused an overnight sensation — and the new installments only build on his colorful cast of supernatural misfits.

20 Vampire Movies that break the Vampire Mould

There's more than just Dracula, Lost Boys, Fright Night etc. of having the same old vampires of bloodsucking, to fangs to sun burning etc. even in novels, stories, TV shows, comics and movies because there are other breeds of vampires in world mythology such as in Africa, South America, Hawaii, Australia, Asia, New Zealand and even in Native American/Native Canadian myths.

There are some vampires who can walk in the day (Egyptian vampires, some South American, India and other breeds), some can be cannibals (The Wendigo of Native American and Canadian legends which can turn people into vampire people, West Africa, Philippines and other places), some can be awake all the time as they can sleep anytime they want, not all are effected by Garlic and holy objects but can be killed in different ways, some don't need fangs but rather have regular teeth but sharp as razor blades that can still affect a human (Egyptian, Brazilian, Filipino and other breeds), not all are pale but some are different races like black to Hispanic, some breeds can morph into other animals like Snakes to spiders to Tigers in other countries legends etc.

Trust me, I’m a TRUE vampire expert unlike some folks who are fans of Dracula's drones even though I like those kinds of vampires and grew up with them since the 80's as a kid, it wasn't until 98 when I looked up on vampires as a teenager at age 17 that I discovered in books there's more than just Dracula as I read the other legends, looked them up on the net and even rented movies like Life-force, Captain Kronos, The Hunger and more as I learned there's more than just being the same stereotype. There are even Succubi or Succubus creatures which are related creatures to vampires even Incubuses as both incubuses and Succubus’s can sparkle in the eyes of that person they desire as powers in some parts of the world when in human form to seduce a person.

If people thought the Cullen family especially Edward were "different and weird" vampires in the Twilight movies (Guilty pleasures of mine) then they aren't alone because the ones I mentioned in the world myths show about different vampires although the Volturi (Awesome villains even Aros) are the non-sparkling more evil and straight breed of dark vampires who finds other vampires not like them to be like them much like the Spanish Inquisition was. Even in some movies, comics, games, anime and novels they show the different vampires of legends like I mentioned and here are examples proving the Cullen’s aren't the only cinematic vampires to be different.

1. The Hunger (1983): Excellent example of how a vampire isn't the same creature you see in Ann Rice, Buffy, Dracula or Blade! John and Miriam played by David Bowie and Catherine Devenue are of the Egyptian breed of vampires where they have no fangs but sharp as razor blades human teeth that can still infect a human (Much like the ones in Near Dark and Twilight) and walk in the daylight without being killed, but they also have a sharp object to slit throats then suck blood and can age rapidly if not given treatment of more blood. They can be killed in the chest.

2. Lifeforce (1985): Another quality underrated example that not all vampires are restricted to being like Stoker or Ann Rice! This Tobe Hooper cult fave features three aliens who invade Earth in London to turn people into zombies and vampires alike. The three aliens in this movie are of an ancient race of vampires who visited Earth before and became the source/ancestors/birth to the vampires, succubi and zombies of legends and myths including Dracula. The 2 male vampires and succubus leader don't have fangs nor suck blood but rather suck out energy/souls/life-forces as they are Psi-vampires or Psychic vampires but still has Dracula qualities like becoming energy mist, becoming bat-like alien beasts with fangs, sleeping in energy crystals like coffins and can be killed in the torso instead of the heart with a leaded iron metal shaft.

True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgard at the Emmy Roundtable Video

Alexander Skarsgard, True Blood joins Lost’s Matthew Fox, Mad Men’s Jon Hamm, Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston, Men of a Certain Age’s Ray Romano and White Collar’s Matt Bomer recently participate in the Emmy Roundtable organized by The Hollywood Reporter.

Does someone in you home have a Playstation ? Good, you can now take it over and watch True Blood

Sony has announced that the firm has secured a deal with American TV Network HBO allowing PlayStation 3 owners to stream shows from the network on their consoles.

HBO is home to a number of today’s hottest TV properties including vampire series True Blood, and marks the latest in a series of deals between Sony and networks in a bid to expand the PS3’s multimedia capabilities.

SCEA boss Jack Tretton commented: "HBO is a high-profile content provider, and a real premium service, so we think this really reinforces that the PlayStation is more than just a video-game console now."

"It gives consumers that big-screen, HD experience in the home on a device other than cable and satellite, and that's becoming the norm now as opposed to the exception."

“Networks like HBO can be beholden to the cable and satellite companies, or they can play wherever the consumers play,” he added.

Meanwhile, HBO Home’s Henry McGee revealed that an episode of True Blood would be made available for $2.99, while episodes for other TV dramas would clock in at around 99 cents per episode.

"We can use this platform to reinforce the premium positioning for HBO," commented McGee.

"The download business in general has become an important profit contributor for us. It's not yet nearly as large as the physical sales channel, but the trend is a good one."

No word yet on whether Europeans can expect something similar, though we'll be sure to keep you posted.

True Blood Season 2 Blu-ray includes social networks

The new True Blood Season 2 Blu-ray Disc has a social networking feature that fans of the HBO series can really sink their teeth into: automatic updates to their Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Described as the most extensive Facebook-linking feature in a Blu-ray Disc so far, the True Blood Live Feed sends updates to Facebook and Twitter as viewers watch the episodes. Each of the 12 episodes has at least eight scenes that can be posted to Facebook, too, direct from the discs.

One of HBO's most popular series, True Blood averaged 5 million viewers per first-run episode. The tale of vampires and other supernatural happenings in the Louisiana bayou has more than 1.5 million friends on Facebook, which now has a countdown to the June 13 third-season premiere.

"For True Blood, we have such engaged and passionate fans that we really wanted to provide them with a way to extend the fiction beyond what they see in the show," says HBO's Sofia Chang, "and share that passion with their friends."

True Blood Season 2 DVD review from the Washington POst

Anna Paquin has a great Southern accent. The actress, who was born in Canada and grew up in New Zealand, manages to incorporate a regional twang in her dialogue as Sookie Stackhouse, the heroine of the HBO series "True Blood," without it sounding labored or exaggerated. In fact, it sounds less like a Hollywood version of a Southern accent than the real thing itself.

That's just one of the reasons why Paquin makes such a good heroine for this deep-fried soap opera, and why "True Blood" is so much more than simply another entry in the exsanguinated vampire trend. Better than "Twilight" (the movies and the books), better than "The Vampire Diaries," the series may trade on its Southern setting for a few laughs, but it never disdains its characters, their predicaments or any of its potentially silly fantastical elements, from vampires to the churches that arise to combat them.

The first season was a surprise hit for HBO, which had been struggling to find a show as popular as "The Sopranos" and "Sex in the City." On the surface, "True Blood" shouldn't work — or at least not as well as it does. Sookie, a chaste waitress who can read minds, falls in love with a 150-year-old vampire named Bill, whose Old South origins make him the model of a gentleman. And yet, it's not so much a love story as a story of love under unusual circumstances.

Alan Ball has promised that fans will be surprised by the third season of True Blood.

Although the series is based on books by Charlaine Harris, Ball explained that readers of the novels will not know what is coming up in the programme.

"For people who read the book, they'll be surprised who kidnapped Bill," Ball told Zap2It. "We definitely have used the plot from the book as a starting point, but we have done a lot differently as well."

Ball added that the team behind the television series made a decision to expand on the stories told in the novels.

"Part of our challenge is that the books are basically Sookie's story," he said. "And they're not anyone else's story outside of how they interact with Sookie. We're always looking for a way to create stories for the other characters and at the same time unify everything that keeps all the characters involved with each other as much as we can."

He continued: "Our cast just continues to expand, so it's a challenge finding a way to serve everybody. But I think that's part of the appeal of the show, that there are so many different characters with so many different stories, so there's something for everybody."

Ball also dropped hints about what is to come in the third season of the show.

True Blood the cast resurrects Season 2

Interview with Allan " Godric" Hyde

Danish Actor Allan Hyde talks about filming the TV series “True Blood”, hanging out with celebrities and how it is to be part of an American super success

Tonight Allan Hyde is on the TV screen in “True Blood” as the 2000 year old tattooed vampire Godric, one of the lead roles in the second season of the popular series. For the 20 year old actor it was a great experience to be involved in filming in Hollywood, even though it was overwhelming while it was underway.

The requirements are very different there than at home where it is normal for actors to work closely with the director about their role. On “True Blood”, it was expected that you develop it yourself.

“I had to play a major role, as people had high expectations of an huge American series, and I got no help- no one to blame if things went wrong. So to give myself a little peace of mind I wrote a long email to the writer Alan Ball where I mapped my thoughts in terms of Godric and asked for advice a couple of places. Just to see if I was on track. It was me, ” says Allan Hyde to Tjektv from the U.S.

Although it was unrelenting work for everyone, and nerves became frayed, both actors and crew were incredibly responsive to Allan Hyde’s surprise, he had feared that the well-known actors would feel better than the rest of the team, but this was not the case.

“Everyone joked and had fun, talked about personal things and gave good advice. If I have to mention specific people I hung out with, it will be Lenny, my stand-in, but also Alexander Skarsgård, Mariana Klaveno, Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin. Actually all of them I had scenes with,” says Allan Hyde to Tjektv.

'Dexter' vs. 'True Blood' from Adage

The all-important upfront presentations, where the major broadcast and cable networks introduce next season's prime-time schedule and tease new shows for ad buyers, have been taking place all week in New York. We media buyers try to figure out how well each show is going to rate, considering factors such as the program's characters, the writing and the competing shows on rival networks' just-announced schedules. Too often however, buyers overlook another element that's just as important to ratings success: how a show is promoted.

Two shows whose marketing has stood out in recent years, however, don't even have commercial time for marketers and their agencies to buy: Showtime's "Dexter" and HBO's "True Blood."

Each show's promotion has been as edgy as its content. Both developed media programs that captured interest, created buzz and drove ratings for their premium cable networks. "Dexter's" premiere-season viral campaign let people create fake news reports naming a friend as the Ice Truck Killer's next victim. I thought last season's "True Blood" vampire-themed out-of-home campaign featuring real-life brands such as Geico, Gillette, Monster.com and Mini was ground-breaking.

'True Blood' Season 3: Alan Ball on Joe Manganiello as werewolf Alcide Herveaux

If you're one of those "True Blood" fans who thinks he knows who snatched vampire Bill Compton, think again.

"For people who read the book, they'll be surprised who kidnapped Bill," series creator Alan Ball tells Zap2It about the HBO series, which returns for its third season on Sunday June 13. "We definitely have used the plot from the book as a starting point, but we have done a lot differently as well. There's a lot of new stuff happening, a lot more about vampire politics and the introduction of werewolves into our world. And there's stuff going on in Bon Temps as well.

Without giving too much away, everybody's got their hands full, and everybody is being extremely tested by the circumstances of their lives."

It's not the first time Ball and his team have deviated from the best-selling Sookie Stackhouse mysteries by Charlaine Harris, which inspired the hit HBO show. Lafayette Reynolds, the cook at Merlotte's Bar, died at the end of Harris' first book yet he remains a popular mainstay of the TV series, played by Nelsan Ellis.

5 Epic Fantasy Book Series to Read This Summer

Geeks are sexy gives us some summer reading ideas ...

If you didn’t get enough ideas for summer reading from our list of science fiction series, take a crack at fantasy instead. Though before anyone starts to quibble over terminology, I’ll note that though “epic fantasy” is sometimes interchangeable with “high fantasy,” my definition here has more to do with scope than genre. These book series are epic in the sense that they’ll take you a while to read, and probably suck you right into the world while you’re doing it. Though rather than being too obvious by singing the praises of Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, here are some other book series to eat away at some of your summer free time.

The Chronicles of Amber, by Roger Zelazny

It’s been ages since I read these books, and I think it might be time for me to enjoy them again. This is one of the ultimate stories of parallel worlds, and you’ll find that it’s full of philosophical concepts – the nature of existence, and even more obviously, the tension between order and chaos. Oh, and if you’ve got a thing for Tarot cards or Shakespeare, you’ll probably find these particularly enjoyable. There are 10 books that were originally released over a period of 20 years, but in the grand tradition of the omnibus, you can just get the whole kit and kaboodle in one really really big paperback.Though the first book is Nine Princes in Amber, if you can find a copy of it.

"To be or not to be" Shakespeare in the Sookie verse

I'm sure you all noticed in the latest Sookie Stackhouse book "Dead in the Family" that Shakespeare opens the books and closes the book, not only Shakespeare but particularly the play, Hamlet.

On page 10 we read ....
“There’s the rub,” Eric said. Somewhere along the line, my Viking honey had read Shakespeare.
Pg 10
The quote was fromShakespeare's Hamlet. "To sleep--perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub."

Then on the last few pages..

“This is positively Shakespearean,” I said, looking around at the remains and the blood soaking into the ground.
Pg 217

“You were right,” Eric said, still in that very slow voice. “This is just like the end of one of Shakespeare’s plays.”
“We’re the people left standing. Yay for us.
” Pg 218

And in the play, Hamlet that scene reads like this .....

Horatio says at the end of hamlet amidst the carnage
And let me speak to the yet unknowing world
380 How these things came about. So shall you hear

381 Of carnal, bloody, and unnatural acts,
382 Of accidental judgments, casual slaughters,
383 Of deaths put on by cunning and forced cause,
384 And, in this upshot, purposes mistook
385 Fall'n on the inventors' heads: all this can I
386 Truly deliver.
Good night sweet prince

There is only a few additional Shakespearean reference in the Sookie books:

Club Dead
Eric began to grin. "You offed Lorena?" He had a good grasp of the vernacular, for a very old vampire. It was hard to interpret Bill's expression. "Sookie staked her," he said. "It was a fair kill." "She killed Lorena in a fight?" Eric's grin grew even broader. He was as proud as if he'd heard his firstborn reciting Shakespeare. "Very short fight," I said, not wanting to take any credit that was not due me. If you could term it credit.

Dead and Gone
I was standing out in my backyard hosing down fairy blood and making melodramatic statements all to myself. Next I’d be doing the Hamlet soliloquy that I’d had to memorize in high school.
This afternoon had brought me down hard, to a real bad place.

'Dead in the Family' Sookie Book #10 Recipes: Southern Style Country Steak

4 cube steaks
Lawry's Seasoned Salt
3/4 cup AP flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
Canola oil
1/2 of a medium onion, sliced
1 envelope Lipton Golden Onion
1 cup of water
Milk

Sprinkle both sides of cube steaks with seasoned salt. Combine flour with salt and pepper and dredge cube steaks in the flour mixture, pressing the flour into the steaks; set aside. Heat to medium high enough canola oil to evenly cover the bottom of a cast iron skillet. Dredge the cube steaks in the flour once more, pressing the flour in well. Place into the skillet and brown on both sides. Remove and set aside. Add onions and cook until nicely browned. Sprinkle onion soup mix and stir, scraping bottom well. Stir in water, bring to a boil, return steaks to pan, reduce heat to simmer, cover and cook for approximately 30 to 40 minutes, depending on thickness of steaks. When done, remove steaks again, set aside, stir in enough milk to desired consistency, return steaks to pan, and turn to coat well.

I know the' country steak' from the part of Mississippi Charlaine is from is not like Texas Chicken fried steak- so maybe something like this ? Anyone have a better recipe?

An interview with Kristin Bauer

After Ellen by Trish Bendix

On the first two seasons of HBO's True Blood, Kristin Bauer showed up sparingly as Pam, the side kick to vampire mayor Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) and co-owner of Fangtasia. Her devil-may-care attitude, witty quips and killer fashion sense had fans hoping they'd get to see more of her amongst the Sookie and Bill, Sam and Tara and other intense storylines.

Last year, it was announced that Kristin would become a series regular on the show, and Truebies rejoiced, as Pam is a huge part of the books the show is based on, and it also happens Pam becomes omnisexual, if not fully lesbian, around age 200.

True Blood Season 3 "In Production" from The Buzz

Interview with Becca Wilcott author of Truly, Madly,Deadly: The Unofficial True Blood Companion

Books on TV posted a new interview with our friend, Becca Wilcott on her new book, Truly, Madly,Deadly: The Unofficial True Blood Companion. I recived an advanced copy of it today and it looks great and I can't wait to sink my fangs into it..

Becca Wilcott, author of Truly, Madly, Deadly: The Unofficial True Blood Companion

Give us a quick breakdown of True Blood, and a pitch to convince other newbies to become Truebies.

True Blood is set in sleepy, sweaty Bon Temps, Louisiana. It’s a small town where everyone knows everyone else’s business, so it’s an interesting mix of political tensions (racism and homophobia still run rampant) and a need to get along with everyone, especially when there’s only one watering hole in town, Merlotte’s Bar & Grill.
Alan Ball, the series creator, has said that True Blood is about the terrors of intimacy. I think that’s spot on. Most of life is about such terror, but it’s particularly fitting for this show, one in which the main characters struggle constantly with what they share with the outside world, what they keep hidden, what secrets they’re trying to outrun, and which secrets need to be brought into the light of day. Sounds like typical, heady, Alan Ball fare (he’s the mastermind behind Six Feet Under), but the notable difference is that many of these characters inhabit extraordinary traits. In seasons 1 and 2, we become most acquainted with vampires, shifters, and our heroine Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic waitress.
Vampires feature most heavily in the first two seasons of the series. A Japanese company has manufactured a synthetic blood, which resulted in vampires “coming out of the coffin” now that their needs were being satisfied with Tru:Blood. However, while this synthetic blood nourishes, it doesn’t necessarily satisfy, and there are vampires who refuse to relinquish their true selves simply to mainstream into modern society. Like any good suspense show, there are the Good Vampires and the Bad Vampires. But, of course, it’s more complicated than that. It’s far more about working against a homogenous society that shuts out anything it deems “different” and immoral. To that end, the show has been cited as a strong example of programming that seeks to comment on “real world” problems, the parallels to homophobia and heterosexism particularly apparent.
