Ohai launches massively multiplayer online vampire game on Facebook

Game startup Ohai is launching a new vampire-themed online world on Facebook as part of an attempt to snare more time and money from social network fans.

Social games have exploded on Facebook this year. But the games have been casual, holding the interest of users for just minutes a day. Ohai wants to take social games to the next generation by launching a massively multiplayer online (MMO) game that will have synchronous play, meaning live games with constant movement and action.

A quick word ... with Stephen Moyer

True Blood's vampire Bill and New Zealand actress Anna Paquin's fiance Stephen Moyer has been in Auckland filming adventure film,Ice. And no, Anna wasn't here with him. He heads back to the States this week to start filming the third series of True Blood. TimeOut caught up with him briefly as he traipsed around the bowels of Auckland museum, which forms part of the Ice set.

How do you like New Zealand? It's absolutely beautiful, I love it, and hopefully at some point I'll be able to come back and spend more time here when I'm not working, and have a better look around.

Would you ever consider moving here with Anna? The truth is that it would be very difficult to do that given that six months of the year we are in America and my kids are in London. I think there's a possibility that at some point we might have a holiday home here but I can't imagine us ever really being able to live in New Zealand.

Did you get any down-time to explore Auckland outside its isthmus? I've been over to Piha, and loved it, loved it. I walked up that central rock and dug some sand and took some photos. I had a wicked sandwich over there which I was very impressed by because I didn't think I was going to find anything.

It's so beautiful - I just want to go everywhere and look at stuff.

LSU graduate students contribute to Dracula sourcebook

Vampires are hot right now. From the "Twlight" saga, "True Blood" and "The Vampire Diaries," vampires are taking over the television airways and the bookstore shelves. One LSU graduate student is taking the trend to a new level by composing a book that attempts to catalogue the sources of the OG vampire, Dracula.

John Edgar Browning, LSU Ph.D. student in the English department, is working alongside author Caroline Joan Picart to create "Dracula: The Sourcebook, A Guide to Film and Television, Comic Books and Video Gaming." The book is to be published in 2010 by McFarland, according to an article released by the LSU Website."This work is the largest of its kind because it has catalogued over 1000 films, television programs, documentaries, adult features, animations, comic books, video games and theatrical titles in wh

Vampire Haiku by Ryan Mecu

From GuysLitWire

The book follows the history of a guy – let's call him William, since that's his name – who is turned into a vampire by a lovely lady vampire named Katherine whilst aboard a ship to the New World (to be specific, The Mayflower – in case you were wondering about those onboard deaths, all is now revealed – also, this makes the book perfect for November, what with Thanksgiving just around the corner):

One the deck at night
as thousands of stars shine down,
I see her, alone.

A married woman,
undeniably stunning;
likes to flirt with me.

Like a siren song,
each night she calls me to her
and I am in love.

In the glassy sea,
she, I, and the moon reflect.
Hers is a bit . . . off.

Katherine bites William, he bites back, and there are many haiku about his lust for blood, as well as Katherine's explanation of the "rules", which include "tanning is bad". Also included? This tidbit:

She explains to me
that wood through my heart will kill.
I don't think that's new.

Ahahaha!

Coming Soon: A Vampire Romantic Comedy

Acclaimed comedy director Amy Heckerling will write and direct the upcoming vampire romantic comedy “Vamps” according to Screen Daily.

The movie, which is set to begin production in March of next year, will be a modern-day tale of two young female vampires living the good life in New York until love enters the picture and each has to make a choice that will jeopardise their immortality. (Think “Sex and the City” with fangs).

Actress Krysten Ritter (seen in the photo above) has signed on for one of the two leading roles in the film. Casting is currently underway for the other.

At least the good news about this one is that it will intentionally be funny, unlike another vampire romance movie about the sparkly kind of vampires…
