True Blood and True Life from Psychology Today

I just spent the week with Sookie Stackhouse in Bon Temps, Louisiana. I had never seen an episode of True Blood until six days ago when I watched episode 1 season 1 on HBOGO on my ipad. Yesterday, I left Sookie screaming in the Finale of Season 4.
Why was I sucked into Bon Temps, Louisiana and its inhabitants for a week, like a V addiction? And why was this immersion so satisfying?
Perhaps its because Bon Temps and the characters of True Blood are a metaphor for the diversity of life itself and our means of meandering through it. Here's what I see in True Blood.
1. A role model in Sookie Stackhouse - a person who is transparent - her outward actions align with inward intentions. When Sookie sees injustice, she acts regardless of the risk. She knows herself - what she deems right and wrong - and acts in accord with it. Deception is not part of her repertoire unless it's used to save someone she loves.

‘Charmed’ Is Better Than ‘True Blood’*

Charmed, the WB’s attempt to bottle the lightning that was Buffy and sell it to grown-ups by dressing Alyssa Milano in outfits that were wildly inappropriate for work at a newspaper, has long been one of my guilty pleasures. In recent months, I’ve joked that it’s one of the few pieces of pop culture that I can watch at home and for pleasure because it’s so feather-light that there’s no risk that I’ll accidentally slip into analyzing it. No more. After Sunday’s True Blood finale, I realized something: we’ve reached a point where Charmed is actually a better show than True Blood. Here’s why:
Gaining power changes people’s lives.
One of the things that bothered me most about this season of True Blood was what happened to Lafayette and Tara when we and they learned they had magical abilities: pretty much nothing. Okay, sure, Lafayette got himself possessed multiple times and killed his boyfriend, and Tara was slightly less passive than usual and was rewarded for it with a shotgun to the head. But what did it mean for their, and our, understanding of themselves? Not a damn thing. There’s an interesting story to be told about the gay black man in a rural community who tells himself his whole life that he’s special and then finds out he actually *is*. There’s another story to be told about a woman who has been routinely disempowered and finds the strength to build a different life. Hell, there’s even a story to be told about someone like Marnie, who found safety from a world that judged her in a quirky magical enclave and decided she wanted to make everyone who ever mocked her burn. But True Blood didn’t tell any of those stories, throwing out Marnie’s motivations in single lines, condemning Tara and Lafayette to the usual messed-up relationships black people are doomed to on this show

On the HBO vampire series True Blood, actor Kevin Alejandro plays Jesus, the handsome nurse who caught the eye of Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) when he was taking care of his mother. As Season 4 has brought the witches to the forefront of the story, and Jesus and Lafayette have been learning just how powerful they are, they’ve gotten closer and their relationship has gotten stronger, their love for each other only growing while they try to save the humans in their tiny town of Bon Temps from an inevitable vampire showdown.

During this exclusive phone interview with Collider, Kevin Alejandro talked about how cool it is to be a part of a show he was already a fan of, that he feels this season has found a good balance between all of the stories and characters, how much he enjoys playing scenes with Nelsan Ellis, how flattered he is by the fan reaction to the show, and that everyone is sure to be amazed by the craziness of the season finale. Question: How did you originally come to the show? Did you just audition for it?

KEVIN ALEJANDRO: Yeah, actually. But, it was something that my wife and I had been watching from the beginning, so it was cool to get to go in there and be part of a show that I was already a fan of. When it happened with True Blood, I was like, “Yeah, this is so cool.”

Fantasy on TV: How 'Game of Thrones' Succeeds Where 'True Blood' Fails

After a summer when HBO garnered critical acclaim and new audiences with its epic fantasy series Game of Thrones, it's been fascinating to watch True Blood, the show that introduced HBO to the genre, go dramatically off the rails in its fourth season. Both shows face the challenges of mustering very large casts in the service of complex storylines that are not always obviously related to each other, along with detailed magical mythologies and histories. But while Game of Thrones hewed closely to the original plotlines and pacing in George R.R. Martin's book, Alan Ball and his writing staff have diverged wildly from Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire mysteries as they've moved deeper into True Blood. Taken together, the two shows represent the perils and opportunities of adapting an existing fantasy franchise.

Harris's Southern Vampire books may be fairly conventional paranormal romances, lacking some of the higher-level philosophical and mythological resonances Alan Ball's added to the franchise. But they're an impressive example of world-building and pacing. Harris started out with vampires and shape-shifters, giving readers a grounded sense of those concepts and mythologies before adding werewolf hierarchies in the third book, witches in the fourth, and faeries in the eighth. That pacing gave readers time to get a full sense of how different kinds of magic work before introducing new part of the world and explaining how different concepts interacted.

True Blood’s Season-Four Midterm Report Card

True Blood's fourth season has three more episodes left, which is plenty of time for the epic witches versus vampires versus people versus werewolves maybe versus other people showdown the series seems to have promised. But it's not been all scary Latin spells and sexy amnesia so far; there have also been plenty of missteps, a lot of random and seemingly pointless magic, story lines that went nowhere, and characters spiraling off in their own directions. It's time to take a careful look at how the citizens and species of Bon Temps have fared so far this season, assigning midterm grades, giving praise where it's due, and also noting areas in need of improvement. It's not too late to get straight A's, True Blood.

Proof that True Blood’s vampire shower sex could have been a whole lot hotter

Many folks were disappointed with True Blood's recreation of the infamous Vampire Eric and Sookie shower sex scene from Charlaine Harris' original book. Instead of carnal lust, we got two stoned teenagers talking about snow. Oof.
Here's the proof, in the form of a steamy reading from the book in which the vampire shower sex was spawned, that thing could have been a hell of a lot hotter.
As many of you know, we were less than thrilled with the reimagining of the infamous Vampire Eric sex fest. Instead of carnal shower lust, it was mutated into a snowflake-strewn romp that flopped onto the screen like Bill's new haircut. It was ridiculous, to say the very least. And with a show that is predominately about about vampires having sex with each other, we'd like to hope that the fine folks who make the "vampires having sex" series would take their vampire sex a little bit more seriously.

Loyola University grad Brian Treitler leaves his mark on 'True Blood'

Chalmette native Brian Treitler left New Orleans after college and moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career.
It was a big, bold move back in 1999. A Brother Martin and Loyola University graduate, Treitler had one friend in L.A. with whom he could couch-surf until he got settled. She moved to Texas after two weeks.
“It was kind of scary at first,” he said. “Twelve years later, it’s a whole other ballgame.”
Tonight (August 21), Treitler makes the second of three appearances this season on the HBO smash “True Blood.”
It’s a small role, one of many he’s had on “Gilmore Girls,” “Malcolm in the Middle,” “Torchwood,” “Big Love” and other series.
But it’s memorable. Treitler plays a kind of vampire-stalking Bon Temps paparazzi who fuels a website with ambush videos of fanger bloodlust in action.

OK, I think with Ep 9 on the horizon - I've been thinking a lot about the season end, denouement and cliff hanger for S5 bk 5 ...

1.At Comic- Con Ball said "We lose a handful of major characters this season." Alan Ball

2. From the Ep 12 " And When I Die" description from HBO "spirits of the dead surface in Bon Temps, giving Sookie some valuable allies to combat Marnie’s newest incarnation."

So we will have some characters dying: Debbie, Tommy, Marnie, Jesus and Ginger ( remember she dies in the book) ? Who do you think and why ?

So what characters will rise from the dead to ally with Sookie ? Gran, Claudine ?? Who else ?

Also "denizens of Bon Temps brace for a new crisis with a familiar face" V addicted weres lead by the resurrected Russell Edgington ?

What's on teevee in Bon Temps ? Part Deux

OK-- he we go again , another episode where everyone in Bon Temps had something blaring on the teevvee.

Hoyt was watching the show Oddities which airs on the Discovery channel their fans on the Facebook page for the real shop were touting the fact that the Viking skull and Mummified cat were both featured on True Blood.
( On Talk Blood Radio with me Sunday night Brian Juergens pegged it !)

Let me guess: Like the restless hipster you are, you bailed on HBO's True Blood last year if not earlier, am I right? You've got company. But maybe you don't have a better half who craved The Boning of Sookie (Anna Paquin) by blond-beast Vampire Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) the way Cubs fans crave a World Series.
Once that was on the menu—and this season built to The Boning in the understated fashion of, say, J.K. Rowling announcing a new Harry Potter book—I surrendered the remote as fast as Obama making a concession. I know which side my fingers are buttered on, put it that way.

Carrie Preston Exclusive: True Blood Star Teases Mysterious Figure, Convergence of Storylines

We sorted out a little about Mavis ( the mystery woman) yesterday here 

There's no longer a question over whether or not Sookie and Eric will have sex on True Blood. That act took place on last Sunday's "I Wish I Was the Moon."
But there is a pressing issue stemming from that episode: Who the heck was that person standing on the lawn outside of Arlene and Terry's burned-down house? The one, seemingly, seen by only their (possessed?) baby?
"That's not the last that we'll see of her," Carrie Preston teased to me today. "And it will affect other storylines, as well. From there, the show goes to an interesting place it hasn't gone to before."
