IDW Announces Launch of Second True Blood Comic Book Collection

DW Publishing, in conjunction with HBO, is pleased to announce the launch of the second hardcover True Blood comic collection, TRUE BLOOD: TAINTED LOVE, available in comic and book stores throughout North America on Tuesday, October 11, 2011. This compilation of all six issues from the second series of the mega-hit comics offers an all-new story co-written by True Blood star Michael McMillian and comics fan-favorite Marc Andreyko. The collection features bonus content, including a cover gallery.

Review American Vampire: Survival of the Fittest #3

I've long been a fan of the "American Vampire" series. Well, sure, it's only been around for a little under two years, but the ferocity that the series grabbed me with at the onset was undeniable. I nabbed the first issue primarily for review purposes and also because Rafael Albuquerque was on art. Sure, Scott Snyder was writing it and I enjoyed his work over on "Iron Man: Noir," but the real writing draw for many was Snyder's co-writer: Stephen King. In the months that followed that first issue – and even the first storyline where King added background for the main vampire of the series - Snyder proved every bit as worthy to grab attention and more than equally capable to deliver a gripping story. For many fans, Scott Snyder's name on the cover soon became synonymous with "must-read.

Graphic Books Best Sellers: More Vampires NYTimes

It seems not a week goes by without some presence of vampires on the graphic books lists. The manga list has three titles, Volume 5 of Rosario + Vampire: Season Two, about a school filled with creates of the night (bloodsuckers and werewolves), Volume 12 of Vampire Knight (about an academy whose night students are Dracula-wannabes) and Volume 10 of Dance in the Vampire Bund (about a once safe haven for vampires off the coast of Japan). Another variation of these vampire chronicles comes in “Blood Work,” which enters our hardcover list at No. 1 this week.

Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire will be adapted into a new graphic novel

Eww sounds good !

Yen Press, the graphic novel and manga imprint at Hachette, will adapt Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire into a new graphic novel with the same plot but a new point of view: the story will be told by Claudia, a child who is transformed into a vampire by Louis, the narrator of the original novel. Newcomer Ashley Marie Witter will illustrate the story, which will be published as a single volume in fall 2012.

Interview with the Vampire is the first book in Rice's 10-volume series The Vampire Chronicles, and Rice said she is "intrigued" by the idea of retelling her story from a different point of view. "I have gone all through The Vampire Chronicles writing from the point of view of different characters, so it is completely legitimate to do that," Rice said. "Lestat [another vampire] tells you a completely different version of events than Louis. Who do you believe?"

Yen Press has a history with vampires: its adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight was one of the bestselling graphic novels of 2010, according to Nielsen BookScan.

Rice grew up reading Classics Illustrated comics and horror comics like Tales from the Crypt. "I remember reading Jane Eyre in the Classics comics and how much I loved the details and seeing the madwoman in the attic in those little panels and seeing the whole novel play out," she said. "What always drew me were very detailed, representational drawings, rather than something abstract. I wanted to see a lot of richness and a lot of depth." Graphic novels, she said, "have a freedom that is all their own to create an entire universe in detail fairly inexpensively, compared to a film."

New Six issue Comic book: True Blood: The French Quarter

IDW Publishing has announced a miniseries titled True Blood: The French Quarter.
Based on the hit HBO show, the six-issue story will serve as a sequel to the firm's previous effort All Together Now, reports MTV.

The plot sees protagonist Sookie Stackhouse and the vampire Eric Northman travel to New Orleans to track down a killer whom they thought was long dead. Other characters from the TV series, including Bill Crompton, Pam and Lafayette, will appear in the comic.

All Together Now's creative team of writers Mariah Huehner and David Tischman, and artist David Messina, will return for the follow-up. Additional illustrations will be provided by Claudia Balboni.

True Blood enters its fourth season on June 26 at 9pm on HBO.

The French Quarter arrives in stores in August.

To celebrate the huge success of the first True Blood comic series, All Together Now, cast members Sam Trammell, Rutina Wesley and Deborah Ann Woll signed copies and greeted their adoring and devoted fans at the Barnes & Noble at The Grove in Los Angeles.
The New York Times best seller is a compilation of all six issues from the first series of comics, and it features the same romance, wry humor, intriguing mystery and suspense the show has become known for. Developed with show creator Alan Ball, along with series writers Elisabeth Finch and Kate Barnow, and co-written by David Tischman and Mariah Huehner, the story gives readers new insights into their favorite characters and helps fill the gap for fans, as they wait for Season 4 to premiere in June on HBO.
In this exclusive interview with Collider, co-stars Rutina Wesley and Deborah Ann Woll talked about why True Blood is the type of show that works in other mediums and what it was like to see themselves in comic book form. They also talked about how Season 4 is coming (they’re just finishing up shooting Episode 4) and gave a few hints about how things will be different for their characters. Today publisher IDW announced plans to bring fan favorite "TRUEBLOOD" back for more monthly installments into the coming year with a second story arc in the series based upon the award winning HBO television show and popular New York Times best selling novels by Charlaine Harris. Below you can get all the details on the series thus far as well as some advance cover art.

"Actor Michael McMillian, who plays Fellowship of the Sun leader Reverend Steve Newlin, will co-author the new six-issue arc with Marc Andreyko.

"Co-writing the True Blood comic is a dream come true both as a performer on the show and as longtime comic fan. It's a real privilege to build on the rapidly growing True Blood mythology," McMillian said.

Here's how IDW describes the next arc:

"Jessica is exposed to contaminated bottles of Tru Blood, causing the lovely vampire to go berserk. It's up to Sookie, Bill and the others to figure out who (or what) is behind the bad Blood."

In addition to Jessica, several other Bon Temp residents are making their comic book debut including Hoyt, Terry, Arlene and Steve Newlin.

Joe Corroney provides the art, with covers by J. Scott Campbell.

"Marc and I are working hard to make sure the series feels like an extension of the show," McMillan said. "True Blood fans should expect lots of action, gore, sex, humor and of course, awesome cliffhangers!"

NYCC 2010: 'True Blood' Comic Kicks Off New York Comic Con!

Has your thirst for "True Blood" been quenched yet? Well, I sure hope not — because HBO and IDW Publishing hosted a little New York Comic Con "True Blood" party last night in honor of the release of the fourth issue in their comic book series, complete with "Fangbanger" drinks, blood-red cupcakes, and yes, a plentiful supply of bottle "True Blood" beverages. (Not an actual blood substitute, by the way.)
Costumes from the television series were also on display, still sporting bloodstains from the show.
After checking out all the "True Blood" goodies, I spoke with the writers from the comic book series, David Tischman and Mariah Huehner.
MTV NEWS: What makes the "True Blood" comic series stand out from the TV series?
MARIAH HUEHNER: That’s a great question, because actually we were just talking about this. We’re able to do things visually that you can’t really do on the show. We happen to have a monster that’s on a scale that I don’t think the show has been able to do yet.

Stephen King explains how to make vampires 'scary again' The horror master offers tips on how to re-inject some bite into a genre 'hijacked by a lot of soft-focus romance'

"Here's what vampires shouldn't be: pallid detectives who drink Bloody Marys and work only at night; lovelorn southern gentlemen; anorexic teenage girls; boy-toys with big dewy eyes," writes Stephen King in the introduction to his move into original comic book writing, American Vampire. "What should they be? Killers, honey. Stone killers who never get enough of that tasty Type-A. Bad boys and girls. Hunters. In other words, Midnight America. Red, white and blue, accent on the red. Those vamps got hijacked by a lot of soft-focus romance."
King has clearly got a bit of a thing against the waves of romantically inclined vampires that have been proving so popular in recent years – in the past, he's hit out particularly at Stephenie Meyer's Twilight books and the yearning teen romance that fills them. "Stephenie Meyer can't write worth a darn. She's not very good," he said last year.

EXCLUSIVE: 'Star Trek' Actor Walter Koenig Returns To Comics With 'Things To Come' And New 'Raver' Tales

Actor Walter Koenig is best known for playing Pavel Chekov, the navigator for the U.S.S. Enterprise in the original "Star Trek" television series and films, but over the course of a career that has spanned more than 50 years of acting, writing, and directing, he's managed to carve out a niche for himself in other areas, too — including the comics world.

The author of Malibu Comics' early-'90s series "Raver," Koenig returns to the comics world next year with "Things To Come," a four-issue miniseries he's scripting that will be published by Bluewater Productions. Set in a post-apocalyptic world in which vampires have become the dominant species, Koenig's tale promises to feature a very different take on the vampire stories that have become all the rage these days.

I spoke with Koenig today to find out more about the series, as well as Bluewater's plans to re-issue the original three-issue "Raver" series next year with a brand new story featuring the character.

In "Things To Come," Koenig presents a world in which vampires are searching for identity and purpose in a world destroyed by their human predecessors. They've evolved to withstand the harsh environment, but remain uncertain of whether they're the next step in civilization or the precursor to something else.

True Blood Comic Book Sold Out!

All your horny “True Blood” fans have made the first issue of the comic series a success! HBO and IDW Publishing have just announced that True Blood #1 has officially sold out. The first issue launched at San Diego Comic-Con and then made its way to comic retailers throughout North America.
The series is the first-ever comic book series to be based on a hit TV series. If there’s one thing we know, it’s that “True Blood” fans are very dependable. To meet the continued demand, IDW and HBO are rushing a second printing to stores for a release date of August 25th.

Here’s the info we were sent on the series:
True Blood #1 boasted a print run of over 53,000 copies, sold through comic stores and other outlets, and offering multiple covers. IDW and Diamond Comic Distributors also offered exclusive versions of the first issue at San Diego Comic Con, all of which were sold out by the end of the show.
