    Interview with Charlaine Harris from

Charlaine Harris has been a published novelist for more than 25 years. A native of the Mississippi Delta, she grew up in the middle of a cotton field; now she lives in Arkansas. Though her early output consisted largely of ghost stories, Charlaine was writing poetry and plays by the time she hit college.

Charlaine is a board member of the influential Mystery Writers of America, a past board member of Sisters in Crime, a member of the American Crime Writers League and past president of the Arkansas Mystery Writers Alliance.

Are you excited about coming to Australia for the Hub Production's True Blood events?

    Charlaine Harris: Absolutely.

The Sookie Stackhouse series has become an international phenomenon; did you expect this kind of success?

Charlaine Harris: Half of this would have been enough. But I'm loving it, of course.

Is it hard being compared to other authors in the vampire/romance genre?

Charlaine Harris: Yes, it is. I like to think my books stand on their own merits. But we all feel that way, and comparisons are inevitable.

How did you develop the series and where did your ideas come from?

Cloe Moretz talks vampires and "Let me in "

Let Me In is a Hollywood remake of the Swedish vampire film Let the Right One In (2008), with Moretz cast as Abby, an ages-old vampire who befriends a lonely, bullied boy (Kodi Smit-McPhee).

"It was really fun to play Abby," Moretz says, "because she's such a unique vampire. She's the kind of vampire that nowadays you don't really see. Interview with the Vampire and movies like that, they glamorised the vampires. But in Let Me In in playing Abby, I made it a lot rougher. It's not glamorous. It's not a cool thing to be a vampire."
